This is canon, now, and no one can convince me otherwise
I always thought he stopped racing bc he wasn’t welcome anymore at the racing events for being outdated/ out of his prime but there is so much more to this, the fact that he’s scraping off his own name. The fabulous Hudson. His identity. Doc never doubted himself. Even his old friends mentioned that he was all over himself. There is much more to this than in the movies.
The doc we know today is a shattered version of what he used to be.
