would you guys hate me and unsubscribe if i wasn’t fanon-compliant? if i didn’t wholeheartedly accept a very popular headcanon into my heart? if i even disagreed with it, and did not like it?

As long as I’m sharing this now, I’d like to direct everyone who sees this to the kind people of the ACLU. They’re currently fighting court battles against attacks on rights in the US that we desperately need right now.

If you can’t donate, you can still sign petitions and send messages/make calls to your state reps through their pages. Especially contact your reps.

If the stock price crashes, banks will ask for their money back.

The Twitter deal alone would break him - twitter has tanked in value, he couldn't sell it to pay off his loans.

I feel like people must’ve forgotten how objectively horrifying Spamton NEO is, like on a psychological level. Once he goes NEO, that’s the point of no return. The only way out of it for him is to basically die.

Not to mention Puppet Scarf’s flavor text:

Yes, Ralsei can no longer cast healing spells as effectively with it equipped, but think of the implication; that’s Spamton. By the time he goes NEO, he gave up on healing and making amends. By this point, he’d rather go out and kill everyone who wronged him (or he thinks they did) than seek forgiveness, or forgive them himself.

And in Snowgrave, he has no problem with letting (or even encouraging) someone commit mass murder if he can take advantage of the situation.

He may call you out on it, but by that point he’s mostly projecting his own self-hatred onto Kris.

But if we adhere more closely to the normal Ch2 route, it’s implied that he still had murderous intentions with NEO.

And even if you end the fight by sparing him and get the Dealmaker instead, it's already too late for him. He went NEO, and there's no other way it can end for him.

In other words, NEO spells his doom.

Yes. He is drawn to NEO like a moth to a flame. He can’t not do everything in his power to obtain that robot. That’s a huge part of his characterization, in my opinion. He is obsessed with it, obsessed to a point of discarding everything and everyone else in his life. He may regret it, but he can’t not do it. He has one goal, and one goal only - becoming [[GOD]].

Also, i feel like a lot of people dismiss this part of his character. Unfortunately, no matter what you do, or how you spin it, or how much love/hugs/comfort you give him, he will never stop trying to become NEO. I feel like the realization of “oh damn, maybe genuine human connection is more important than power” can only come after his downfall with NEO. Otherwise he just feels out of character to me, idk

I'm compelled to bring this up again to...I suppose clarify some authorial intent, because I feel people were all sharing this take, and it's what got spread around and validated, and it's not what I was trying to say with this post at all.

At no point was I trying to say that "NEO is inevitable, and it's just OOC as shit if you try to redeem him before he attains it, the only way to save him is afterwards, etc." because...to be frank, I was planning on working on such a story. To tell me that something I put so much heart and effort into is "OOC as shit, any way you slice it," no matter how much you "appreciate other interpretations," is very discouraging.

I do believe it's possible to save him without resorting to NEO. But it requires some special circumstances not available to him in canon. He'd have to have his own whole journey the actual Chapter 2 doesn't give him time for. But as he's introduced, and how he's presented, he's not above murder/violence, and fully intends to commit it to everyone he believes wronged him (whether or not they actually and intentionally did), and at that point, has no intention to heal, and probably doesn't even believe he needs to. That is why he seeks NEO. That, and it's highly likely he doesn't believe there's any other way to "free" himself. And once he goes NEO, then there's no turning back for him.

HOWEVER, with that said, the idea was supposed to set up that preventing such a fate for him and setting him on a path to healing and redemption is still plausible and possible. But while canon itself does not offer him such options, I posit that he can still achieve this in a believably in-character way, but that would have to be another entire story.

And before anyone asks, no, it's not about how he just needs love/hugs/comfort/kisses to be all better.
