What’s wrong with stranger things and umbrella academy? /gen

Avatar

Okay. I knew I was gonna get this and here it is.

Stranger Things:

One of the motifs in stranger things is number tattoos on the wrists of the characters imprisoned and tortured by the bad guys. And now actual real life fans of stranger things are getting tattoos similar to these and the show’s accounts on social media have even been supporting and promoting this. Because number tattoos on wrists/arms definitely have no deep historical context that this show is copying and fans making light of. /s

Also in case that wasn’t bad enough for stranger things, s4 was shot at a nazi prison in Lithuania. Let me repeat: Stranger Things season 4 was shot at a Nazi. Prison. They used it as a film site. And if that somehow wasn’t bad enough, oh yeah by the way they’re turning it into a Stranger Things themed AirBnB where you get to your the prison and eat waffles like the characters in the show! (Yes actually.) And yeah obviously they really haven’t done anything to at least pretend that they were sorry for any of this and I know for a fact that many fans do know this but continue to watch the show anyway.

Some sources on this:

The Umbrella Academy:

This one is a lot simpler to explain but it’s very easy to miss if you don’t know the context. The antagonists of tua are a secret organization of Yiddish speaking lizard people controlling the worlds events from behind the scenes. Now if you don’t know about the antisemetic origins of like. Most conspiracy theories, then the only bad thing here seems to be the antagonists speaking Yiddish. But there’s context to this that a lot of people don’t know despite Jews having spoken about it A Lot.

Here’s the part that gets harder to explain but the short of it is there is a very famous forged document from 1903 called β€œThe Protocols of the Elders of Zion” basically β€˜detailing’ how we Jews secretly control the banks and the government and the media and history and basically the whole world because we’re evil. Starting to sound familiar?

This is also where the whole lizard people conspiracy comes from. The β€œlizard people” are just stand-ins for Jews, and that is while not as explicitly antisemetic as β€œthe evil Jews are controlling the world” that is where the conspiracy theory comes from.

Last but not least, the Yiddish part. They could have had the handler speak literally any language on earth and they chose it to be Yiddish. That was an active choice made by the writers, this is a piece of media on an extremely popular platform with a very high budget. They could have had her just, you know, not speak Yiddish, but they did. A minority language associated with this same group of people that MANY PEOPLE STILL DO believe runs the world in a similar manner.

Sources for this part:

(Forgive that this article deadnames Eliot Page because it was written before he came out as trans, that should not be the takeaway you get from it.)

I will say next time you have a question like this, remember that you are on tumblr, there is a search bar, you can look up β€œ[insert piece of media here] problematic” and find stuff. I wrote this because I know people don’t generally look stuff up because it’s easier to just ask but generally the people who are pointing it out are the ones affected and these kinds of explanations are labor we do because we know no one false will. I don’t mean to sound mean about this but I stand by it.

Am I telling you to stop watching these shows? Well in my personal opinion yes, but I don’t control you, do with this information what you will. And last thing, to anyone reading this who’s thinking β€œbut they have good queer representation!” Representation for one group should not come at the cost of harm to another.

Help my family 🩸

My name is Hejer, and I am from the Gaza Strip. Before the war, I lived with my family in relative stability despite the challenges surrounding us. I was studying Doctor of Pharmacy, and my three siblings were also university students. We all had big dreams and worked hard to achieve them. My father was the sole provider for our family, and despite our limited income, he managed to cover our education expenses and basic needs.

But on October 7th, our lives were turned upside down. We woke up to the sounds of bombings, destruction, and bloodshed filling our streets. There was no time to process what was happening; we were only searching for safetyβ€”but in Gaza, there was no safe place.

In the early days of the war, we lost access to basic necessities. Water was cut off, food became scarce, and our education, which we had worked so hard for, suddenly felt like a distant dream. My father, who had always provided for us, could no longer do so as he lost his source of income amid the chaos.

As the bombings intensified, we had no choice but to flee. We grabbed whatever little we could carry and left under the terrifying sounds of explosions and gunfire, walking with no clear destinationβ€”just searching for shelter. We moved from one place to another, from one house to a shelter, and then to tents that could not protect us from the cold of winter or the scorching summer heat.

We tried to hold on, but the conditions only worsened. There was no more education, no normal lifeβ€”only fear and survival.

After months of displacement and suffering, we attempted to return to our home, only to find it completely destroyed. We no longer had a roof over our heads, no place to call home. The infrastructure was wiped out, water was inaccessible, electricity was nonexistent, and life as we knew it had disappeared.

Now, we are trying to survive amidst skyrocketing prices and extreme shortages. We do not have enough money to buy even the most basic necessities. I do not know if I will ever be able to continue my education, nor do I know how my siblings will complete theirs. I do not know how we will rebuild our lives in the middle of this devastation.

Today, we are searching for a glimmer of hope, a chance for a dignified life, a helping hand to lift us from this suffering. We do not ask for muchβ€”just the opportunity to live, to continue our education, to have a normal life like everyone else.

Please, do not abandon us in this pain. Do not deprive us of your support, for hope is the only thing we have left.

🌍✨ A Voice from Gaza: Fighting for Hope β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Hi, my name is Mosab , and I’m from Gaza. Life here has been harder than I could ever imagine, but today I’m sharing my story with hope in my heart, because your kindness has already given us so much strength.

This journey hasn’t been easy. The war has taken 25 family members from usβ€”25 beautiful souls we loved deeply. Their laughter, their presence, their love… all of it is gone, leaving behind memories that are both precious and painful. Every day, I carry the weight of their loss, but I also carry their spirit, which gives me the strength to keep going.

Our Journey So Far

When I first reached out, I couldn’t have imagined we’d make it this far. Your support has been a light in these difficult times, and we are so deeply grateful for every single contribution.

But the road ahead is still challenging. Every day, we’re reminded of how much we’ve lost and how much we still need to rebuild.

Here’s what life in Gaza looks like for my family right now:

🏠 Safety: The uncertainty of tomorrow weighs heavily on us.

😒 Loss: The absence of the 25 family members we’ve lost is a pain we carry every moment.

πŸ’” Dreams on Hold: The future feels so far away when survival takes all our strength.

How You Can Help Us Cross the Finish Line Even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference:

  • $5 may seem small, but for us, it’s a little relief, a moment of comfort, and a reminder that kindness still exists. ❀️
  • Can’t donate? Reblog this post to help us reach someone who can. Every share matters more than you know.

Why Your Support Matters Your kindness isn’t just about helping us meet our goalβ€”it’s about reminding us that we’re not alone in this fight. It’s about hope. It’s about survival. And it’s about giving my family a chance to rebuild our lives, even in the face of unimaginable loss.

Thank you for helping us get this far. Your generosity and compassion have already brought us closer to a better tomorrow, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

With all my love and gratitude,

Mosab and Family ❀️

🚨Urgent and important appeal🚨

‼️‼️The crossing is closed‼️‼️

I'm Wasim from Gaza, as you know the crossings are closed and the situation is very difficult, everything is expensive, we cannot afford any food or gas and we are in the holy month of Ramadan and we fast for 15 hours and we cannot break our fast because of the high cost of food...😭😞

As you can see, we do not have cooking gas because the crossings are closed, and we suffer a lot when cooking...πŸ˜”πŸ˜β€ΌοΈ

My mother also needs medicine and vitamins, but she cannot buy them because they are expensive due to the closure of the crossings and the scarcity of the quantity.😭

‼️Help us and donate so that we can break our fast in this blessed month and so that my mother can receive her vitamins...πŸ˜”πŸ€²πŸ«‚β€ΌοΈ

πŸ”΄ What is the world waiting for!! Gaza is being exterminated?
πŸ“ŒWhere is the world in saving two million people who have been subjected to genocide for a year and a half? What more is this world waiting for to move in support of Gaza after the death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression since October 7, 2023 has exceeded fifty thousand martyrs?
Most of them are children and women, in addition to more than 113,000 wounded. Thousands remain missing under the rubble as the brutal aggression continues.
Urgent | UNRWA Commissioner-General: Israeli forces launched an airstrike today targeting an Agency building in Jabalia. Initial reports indicate that the Jabalia building was sheltering more than 700 people at the time of the attack.
Displaced families were forced to remain in the shelter even after it was targeted due to lack of other shelter options.
Urgent: More than 50 displaced Palestinian families are besieged and calling on the Red Cross and relevant authorities to evacuate them from Rafah.
When the Red Cross arrived to rescue them, the occupation forces besieged the Red Cross along with the residents. The Red Cross is now calling on the Red Cross outside Rafah to rescue them all.

Had a dream last night that i was a knight and this bigger scarier knight had me on the ground and right before he swung his sword at my neck he said smth like "i mourn the loss of life for the tree who will become your coffin" which shouldnt of turned me on like it did but alas

You know I was expecting this to end with the classic β€œreally hard line that sounds like it comes from some great classic fantasy novel or something” and I was not ready for the actual ending to this post

Hey everyone, my name is Abdelmajed. I don’t usually talk much about myself, but today, I want to share a little piece of my story.

I was born and raised in Gaza, a place that has always been my home 🏑. I grew up surrounded by my family, my friends, and the streets that I knew like the back of my hand. Life wasn’t always easy, but we had love, laughter, and dreams. I used to think that no matter what happened, home would always be here. But life has a way of changing things in ways we never expect.

Over the past months, everything I once knew has disappeared. The streets that were once filled with children playing are now silent. The houses that held so many memories are now just rubble. And the people I lovedβ€”some of them are gone forever. πŸ’”

Save my father please β€ΌοΈπŸš¨

My friend, don't make me say goodbye to my father. 😭 The only thing left of my family. A month and a half ago, I lost my mother, who was taking her last breaths. πŸ˜πŸ’” I don't want my father to let his last breaths be in front of my eyes, just like I lost my mother. 😭😭 When I lost my mother, I had no choice, and now I have no choice but to lose my father. 😭😭 I don't want my father to die. The matter seems very difficult for him. Do you imagine what I mean, my friend?

I can't write these words, I bleed while writing this, I can't describe and I scream at the doctors and tell them I don't want my father to die, but no one is with me, and my father is independent in intensive care, and his body is completely covered with wires and electronic devices inside the intensive care, and my father lives on artificial oxygen, and his swollen eyes ask me for help πŸ’”πŸ˜πŸ˜ and I have nothing but pain and tears 😭😭😭

My father is sick with Sultan's disease and hepatitis, and they told me that either you pay to get a battery for the heart machine, or we will remove your father's oxygen and take him out of intensive care, and he will die immediately. πŸ˜πŸ’”πŸ˜

My friend, please, I am begging you. Can you imagine what it means to my father and the pain inside me? Can you imagine the life I am living? My friend, your donation will save the life of a human being like us, just like each other. We must help each other, my friend.

Can you imagine my father's life shattered and trapped between death or life, just a number on a piece of paper, and my father needs your donation to save his life? πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ»

I haven't slept for days because of the conditions of saving my father. I see my father at the door of intensive care surrounded by machines and wires. My eyes are tearing up because I can't save my father and he is breathing with difficulty. I am afraid. Will this be my last day? 😭😭

Will my life become dark after my father's departure? πŸ˜πŸ’” Will I continue to imagine my father in front of my eyes during his departure? 😭😭 Imagine? Imagine?

When I hold my father's hand, I feel warmth and tenderness because there is no one in my family but my father, and I lost my sisters and everyone who cares about me, but my father is in danger and his last hours could be in a few minutes, my friend, donate when you see this, please, please, the matter is urgent 😭😭

I don't ask much from you. I just want my father to live and be my support. I want him to hug me and feel his warmth and tenderness and make up for the loss of my family.πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ»

I beg you please my friend please help my father don't let my father go don't let my life be dark I have no one but my father please donate please my friend save my father πŸ™πŸ»

The night the ceasefire collapsed, Hossam’s family lost everything again.

Images: The morning after the ceasefire collapsed, Hossam contacted us to confirm his family was safe, and show us the extent of the damage to his family's tent.
Video: To further validate his story, Hossam sent us the link to an Al-Jazeera news report (LINK) in which he briefly appears around the 0:48 mark.

Story by @rumiandroses

On the night of March 17-18, 2025, as airstrikes rained down across Gaza, the Al-Quzzaz family’s tent was destroyed. Miraculously, Hossam, his wife Hanan, and their four children (Bashar, 9; Hani, 8; Diana, 4; and Habiba, 6 months) all survived unharmed, but many in their displacement camp did notβ€”many men, women and children, innocent lives who had already endured so much, were lost to the violence.

Amid the chaos, the Al-Qazzaz family has clung to their faith and done their best to keep their spirits high. They've sought safety where they can, staying with relatives and mentally preparing themselves for the days ahead as war returns to Gaza. Every day is filled with fear and uncertaintyβ€”Just last week, Hanan, went to a local hospital, only for the hospital to be bombed just hours after she left it.

In the aftermath of the airstrikes, Hossam and our founder, Bethany-Grace, discussed sending some of the funds raised so far from the Chuffed campaign she is sponsoring for the Al-Quzzaz family, so that the family could rebuild their shelter. On March 28, we were able to send Hossam $788 (€697.48 after conversion) raised by the Chuffed campaignβ€”enough to start constructing a sturdier, more protective shelter for the family. While this might seem like a significant sum, the blockade of goods into Gaza has caused prices for basic items like food, medicine, and building materials to skyrocket.

Today, because of your kindness, compassion, and generosity, Hossam was able to purchase sturdy building materials and has begun to rebuild the family's tent.

Images: Hossam is beginning to reconstruct the family's tent.

As a direct result of your help, the Al-Quzzaz family will have shelter again. They will be protected from the elements and shielded as much as possible from the dangers that surround them every second of every day.

But the Al-Quzzaz family's journey is far from over. We are still raising funds to help Hossam’s family escape to safety and rebuild their lives.

If you can, please donate. If you cannot, please shareβ€”amplifying this family's story plays an important role in helping the family find people who can financially assist.

Your generosity has already helped this family take their first steps toward recovery. Let’s help them move forward.

The Al-Quzzaz family also has their original GoFundMe campaign. Without any stable source of income available, the GoFundMe campaign is used to buy basic necessities like food, clothes, and medical supplies.

You can donate to the Al-Quzzaz family's GoFundMe campaign [HERE].

The Al-Quzzaz family's campaign has been vetted by @gazavetters (#287) and is confirmed on their list of verified fundraising campaigns.

Thanks to you, I am now setting up our tent again. You have overwhelmed me with your kindness and generosity. I am indebted to all of you. To everyone who donated to me and to everyone who shared my posts. I thank you all and I hope that whoever can will donate to us and share our post with everyone. My greetings to you.
