Teenagers are rarely taught the reason why they can't consent to sex with adults.

And that's because teaching them that would completely unravel our coercion-based society.

It can be difficult to explain in detail the exact reason and all the specifics in a way that they will understand. But the simplest way to phrase it is that in some cases, even when someone agrees to something and even when they appear enthusiastic about it, there's too much of a power imbalance that it's no different than forcing them. Also, having power and being abusive doesn't require a conscious expectation to be obeyed.

Imagine a world in which every teenager understood that and was easily able to call out anyone who tried to convince them otherwise.

They'd know that there's no such thing as an employee consenting to working for a poverty wage, working in unsafe conditions, working long hours, or working without taking breaks. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to paying a bank overdraft fee. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to student loan debt. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to medical bills. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to generating profit for banks or landlords in order to have a place to live and being evicted or foreclosed when you lose your source of income. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to a police search. They'd know that there's no such thing as a child who's okay with their parents spanking them. They'd know that being dependent on someone does not mean that you can never criticize them. They'd know that if it's considered abusive to simply play along when someone obeys, then it has to be much more abusive to actively expect to be obeyed, which many adults do to them.

And people who benefit from a society based on coercion masquerading as freedom wouldn't like that.

So instead, teenagers are taught something dismissive. They're taught that what they want doesn't matter. They're taught that they're too young to know what love is. They're taught "it's the law". They're taught things that are insulting to their intelligence, which they'll naturally rebel against.

Speaking as a current teenager it took me years to figure this out, which is honestly astounding because I was SAed as a kid. The general reasoning I kept hearing was "it's bad because it's the law and the law says that 18 is when you're a legal adult" and little 13 year old me who was just putting together my ethical worldview heard that and thought it sounded a little bullshit. I managed to figure out why this was wrong thanks to partially my interactions with other survivors, but also thanks to Tumblr and Reddit

Just putting aside the fact that you can really easily get on the wrong side of pretty much any social media spaces, there's also a ton of kids out there who aren't allowed to have social media. And this you also can't overlook the fact that people, sometimes legitimate adults, will see stories about kids getting raped and think "man, I wish that was me," especially when it happens to young boys. I saw a story posted on Reddit (from a news source dw I keep things relatively credible) about a man who was raped by a woman when he was 15 and had to pay a backlog of child support despite the fact that the woman hid his daughter's existence from him for 6 years (which is a whole nother I could get in to but I'm trying to keep it on topic). And people were in the comments talking about how some guys feel really pressured to lose their virginity early on and how that can lead to being groomed, which, as we've established, they don't understand the implications of because no one ever tells them.

Tell kids about this shit please. Otherwise they're going to end up falling right into it.

so report the fuck out of them for it. most likely, their fic will just have tags adjusted and their account will be fine.

And there are research our there testing same in same sex couple oxytocin levels when they hold their babies first and actively engage in spending time with them.

I think to be a good parent, your nurturing instinct should be there. Nature already knows how to signal your brain (regardless of the sex of the parent; ofc the women would produce more because she needs to feed the baby and everything but definitely there is striking correlation of increased bonding of the parent and increase oxytocin on a relative scale)
