Rough Mix is a small and somewhat quiet album put together by Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane. Ronnie was the bassist, frequent songwriter, and sometimes lead vocalist for The Small Faces and The Faces. You know some of his work of course. The song I’ve shared today is a minimal acoustic ballad that evokes traditional folk/bluegrass elements and features Lane’s delicate George Harrison-esque vocals. Nearly half of the running time is occupied by a slide guitar noodling over deep, droning bass strings. Something really beautiful about this.
