Kauai (a Hawaiian island, if you didn’t know) is currently experiencing historic flooding, which has also caused landslides. They got around 30 inches of rain in one day, where the previous record was only 12. Not only is this affecting the people living on the island, but it’s also hurting the reefs. More than 450 people had to be evacuated, human objects, like boats, have been thrown into the reefs, and I haven’t seen anything on the news about it. Please spread the word and donate if you can, this is a major crisis and it should not be downplayed and ignored.

If you ever think your 12 year old self was an idiot just remember this: 

one time when I was in seventh grade I decided to walk home from the community center without wearing any shoes. But it was like 98 degrees outside, so obviously the pavement was hot as balls, but I stubbornly continued to walk home barefoot. Long story short I got second degree burns from the pavement and painful blisters on every part of my feet. When I had to explain to my parents why hell I walked home barefoot I told them that my shoes were hurting my feet. I ended up going to go see doctors, and I wore inserts in my shoes for three years. My parents even considered surgery to fix my feet so that they wouldn’t hurt. 

I never had the courage to tell them that the reason why I walked barefoot that one day was not because my feet hurt, but because, being an avid fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I had wanted fucking callouses on my feet like Toph

I want to add again that schools are allowed to punish you for missing class to protest, but it has to be the standard punishment for missing class (as though you were missing for any other reason). If they would not normally suspend you for 3 days for missing class, then they cannot do it for this. It is a violation of your first amendment rights to punish you more harshly for protesting than for any other reason for an absence from class.  [source - ACLU]

For the better part of a decade, the Idaho couple has been working on prototyping an industrial-strength panel that could withstand the weight of even the largest trucks. They now appear to have cracked the formula, developing a specially textured glass coating for the panels that can not only bear tremendous loads but also support standard tire traction.

By their reckoning, at peak installation their panelized roads could produce more than three times the electricity consumed in the U.S.

The material could power electric vehicles through a receiver plate mounted beneath the vehicle and a transmitter plate is installed in the road.

THESE PEOPLE ARE SAINTS, THEY’VE WORKED THEIR BUTTS OFF AND VOLUNTEERS HAVE WORKED JUST AS HARD TO GET TO THIS LEVEL BUT THEY STILL HAVE JUST UNDER $ 800,000 TO RAISE IN 15 DAYS.
