It's not too late to participate in the Two Week of Hitsuhina! Late submissions will be accepted up until Tuesday December 31st for any of the days/themes of the two weeks. So far, there haven't been any submissions for days 8, 9, 13,and 14 so if you're feeling inspired, consider creating something for those days.

Returnal: Winter

Two Weeks of Hitsuhina 2024: Days 12 & 14 - Birthday & Winter

Rating: K/General

Setting: between the ten-year time-skip and No Breaths from Hell oneshot, but as this is a companion piece to Returnal: Summer, it’s five months after that fic.

Synopsis: on his birthday, Hitsugaya returns to where it all began for him. Hinamori comes along to help him put the pieces together.

AN: a belated birthday fic! I didn’t intend to write a companion piece to my other Two Weeks of Hitsuhina submission, Returnal, but when I was coming towards the end of writing that one, the idea for this one came to mind and I couldn’t not write it. It’s why I ended up including Summer in the title of that fic, to differentiate it from this one.

Some of you may recall a fic I wrote years ago that explores Toshiro's origins a bit. I wasn't happy with how that one turned out, and I've been looking for an opportunity and idea to try it again. Prepare for an angsty one, I wanted to explore an aspect of Toshiro's character that I think doesn't quite get explored enough and it led me to write some potentially out-of-character moments; but I promise there’s fluffy hurt/comfort here too.

Finally, while I would love for you to also read Returnal: Summer, you don’t have to have read it to understand what’s going on here.

Why Einaudi’s “Experience” is my HitsuHina Anthem

For @hitsuhina-week's Two Weeks of HitsuHina 2024, [December 12th] Day 4: Music!

Bleach is not something I associate a lot of music with. Which totally goes against Kubo’s whole aesthetic, but it is what it is. I do have one song, though, and that song is Ludovico Einaudi’s “Experience” from his 2013 album, In a Time Lapse. (I also link the song at the end of this post, but if you'd like to listen to it while you read, here's a link here too!) This song expresses everything I love about Hitsugaya and Hinamori’s relationship: It’s minimalist and built on repetitions on a theme, and evokes for me that sense of ellipsis I find so captivating about the way they play out in Bleach.

Hitsugaya and Hinamori don’t necessarily have many scenes together, but they have so much history; and every time we see them it’s clear things have happened or been experienced or ruminated upon that we have not been privy to—that perhaps no one has been privy to. Sometimes the repetitions are familiar, seasonal, built on orbit around each other, and sometimes they are traumatic lurches backward into memory, or forward into unknown ambition. Owing to the title of the song, maybe it’s more accurate to call it experience rather than history, given how apparent it is that their relationship is something they are very much still living through. Yet there’s a stillness to the tumult (a minimalism, or ellipse) that makes what they have feel simultaneously inexorable while also being deeply fragile. Their bond does not require an everyday—to be present in each other’s lives at all times, in all ways—but they also couldn’t ever have that.

Two Weeks of Hitsuhina 2024 - Day 11: I’ll Carry You / Fashion

Rating: Teen/T for mild violence and mentions of injuries

Setting: starts in their childhood and goes through to Thousand Year Blood War arc

Synopsis: three instances of them carry one another, and one of them carrying each other.

AN: this ended up being multiple ideas that I came up with for this theme but didn’t take off into a full blown story so I just smacked them together and called it a day. A two notes before we begin:
