Númenorean Hobbit Lass at your service

@hobbitinnumenor

Lover of all things Tolkien. Would rather be sailing a Númenorean ship, riding pretty horses in Rohan, or dancing with ribbons in my hair like Rosie Cotton. Also a Swiftie, Lostie, member of the Rebel Alliance, proud Gryffindor, book lover, all-around nerd. (Credit: PFP @klikandtuna, banner Sara Morello)

Sharing my "The Hobbit" journey...

I just re-read "The Silmarillion" and shared thoughts with every chapter on Bluesky. Doing the same now with "The Hobbit". I figured why not post here as well! Ty if you read, and please feel free to weigh in, would love a conversation!

  1. Definitely a different tone from the Silm, perhaps why the feeling is more coziness than awe at the epic scale and depth in time. More intimate, right in there moment-by-moment with the characters.
  2. I love the sense of wordplay: "all of them at once, I suppose", haha. Bilbo particularly bothered by "throng", "co-conspirator": specificity with language seems key. Feels quite JRRT!
  3. Also v JRRT, in the Silm even though the story started out as something different: 🎶🎵 awakening something in Bilbo, its impt role; 🌟 and earth connecting (Valar working together!)
  4. Imho Bilbo actually shows remarkable patience & courtesy. 13 unexpected people at my doorstep ordering things from my pantry, without a lot of thanks? Umm who are you & why are you entitled to my food? Come on, manners, dwarves, bring dessert at least 😅 Goodness in Bilbo, I really do think.
  5. "There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself.": loooove this quote, I think encapsulates the big theme here of the things in us we didn't know where there, not until circumstances bring them out in us.
  6. Bilbo: Back up, can I get a recap please? …he is the reader 😅 The song is gorgeous (the rhyme & imagery!!) & gives a sense of the history, but Thorin's history lesson does help solidify it for us, imho.

Fic: In Black Anger - Chapter 2

Have been playing with this fic again, exploring a bit of an AU after s2e7, with lots of interactions between various characters. Hope you enjoy reading if interested ^_^

“She lives,” Arondir confirms at once, wishing to allay the fear written plainly across Elrond’s face. “She had fallen from that great height.” Or jumped, he thinks, recalling Sauron’s touch upon his own mind - but does not say so aloud.

Elrond brushes a stray hair from Galadriel’s dirtied forehead, fingers tracing the small cuts upon her ear and chin - coming to hover over the blacked wound.
