see it's not just about gay men, it's about middle aged - or immortal - gay men specifically

I genuinely think the reason why there's such a phenomena around older gay men (and by that, I basically mean men not in their 20s) especially is because of that notion of discovering yourself, or finding love, later in life really connects (or brings hope) for a lot of people. Most people (especially us queer folk) don't have it all figured out or have the best love of their life in their teens/in their early 20s. Give me sweeping romance in late 30s/early 40s. Give me 50 year olds saying "I'm too old for this shit" and deciding to settle down with their life-long companion.

Give 👏 me 👏 older 👏 gays 👏 (or give me death)

remember when severance explored the cost of avoidance. the cost of avoiding your grief, avoiding discomfort, pain, boredom, fear, loneliness, depression.... the cost of forgetting. the arrogance of denying those fundamental parts of human existence.

On a similar note one of the worst things I saw with my eyeballs in black sails fandom real time years ago was characterizing TH as a beacon of light and I’m not even talking about the british aristocrat with colonization plans part. Like I know this character has 0.2 seconds in the show and flinthamilton has the whole yin/yang opposites attract thing goin on but you literally see his dark side play out onscreen more than once like pay attention guys(gender neutral) c’mon now

I think there is a difference in being morally grey and being a part of a morally corrupt system that grooms you to be a part of it while also being a part of the ruling class. Considering who he was, Thomas was progressive, but that doesn't take away the fact that he was raised to believe in that whole British Empire Saves The World Through Colonization BS. I agree that Thomas Hamilton is not an angel, but I wouldn't go as far as calling him dark. What moments do you mean?

didn't say he's dark but he had a dark spot somewhere in there. the dude had a fiery temper and an incredible arrogance streak and sure he was confrontational and argumentative for good reasons and also perhaps he was confrontational and argumentative because he liked to win too. tbh none of father of the 18th century alfred hamilton's criticisms were exactly wrong per se. granted i wouldn't call his shadier qualities as deep and explosive as flint's were at least from what little screentime he had in general but it also doesn't have to be for it all to co-exist and make sense bc that's the yin-yang of it all babey as i said they got the yin-yang romance goin on...
