Its just I recently read some older versions of the tale ( back in Alienor of Aquitaine era in France, and the Marianne of those version was a noble lady who was as rebellious as Robin Hood, so I told myself it would totally be Evan matching Barty’s freak 💕💕 )

Authors note: I've given up on telling people how self indulgent these things are, if you like it, I love you, because this is by far the longest one I've ever written. The hyper focus is whirring too hard lol. How scary could the marketplace be? Regulus had fought in wars, seen more terrifying things in his own household than he had in all of Egypts wonders.
But Egypt was big, and Regulus was small, and he was definitely not used to the hustle and bustle of the streets and the loud stall owners and their bargain yelling.
He should've brought earphones.
It would be okay, he said to himself. All he needed was bread for his evening dinner. Then he could leave.
"أريد هكذا"
Regulus struggled as he attempted to indicate to the bread-seller which one he'd like.
"ستون"

Regulus sighed as he payed the man at the bread stall his full amount. The man's eyes widened, as if he could believe his luck, but took the money nonetheless. Regulus would never get used to 'haggling' over prices, and he'd just learnt to accept that at this point. He had far more money than he could spend here anyway.
As Regulus turned to leave, he heard a clear shout ring out from the fruit stall.
"قف! سارق!"
stop. thief.
A man bellowed, and Regulus glanced to the side with a racing heart, only to see a small child running like the wind, clutching an apple like his life depended on it. The child disappeared behind a wall, and Regulus watched in awe as the boy's ruffled blonde curls morphed into soft brown waves, his nose becoming sharper. The child had effectively disguised himself, and by the time the vendor caught up, was looking like a whole different person.
The child stared at Regulus directly, almost smugly, as if he knew he'd gotten away with something. Then, the cheeky lil blighter actually stuck his tongue out at Regulus, quickly morphing his hair into soft black curls, exactly like Regulus himselfs. Regulus couldn't believe his eyes. A secret metamorphagus? He beckoned for the child to come closer, but the child shook his head adamantly. Regulus sighed, got up, and crouched near the kid, holding his hands out so the child wouldn't make a break for it.
"ما اسمك؟"
He asked quietly. What is your name?
The child scrunched his nose up.
"نادوني الجرذ"
They called him The Rat? Regulus would've laughed if not for the expression of pure hatred on the child's face. He softened, gently tapping the kid's shoulder.
"و أين أباك؟"
Where are your parents. The child looked confused at this.
"أن واحد" i am alone.
Regulus' heart dropped. He murmured a spell quickly, just to check the child was healthy, relieved when the spell came back clear. Regulus was slightly conflicted. On one hand, he should probably take the child to an authority, to try and see if they can put him somewhere where he'd be cared for. Regulus himself was in no state to raise a child, he knew that. But one look at the kid's face demolished any thought of handing him in. The child's grin was all too familiar to Regulus, and within that instant, his mind was made up.
"اتبع." follow.
He said quietly. The kid stood, eyeing Regulus warily.
"أ كلمت الانجليزي؟" do you speak english?
The child looked up at him, and then frowned, before slowly saying, "little bits."
Regulus smiled slightly, a short, quick smile.
He held out his hand. Skeptically, the child took it, his small fingers wrapping around two of Regulus's.
"Come child. There is soup for dinner."

Regulus and the child were sat cross-legged, facing each other on the carpeted floor of Regulus' apartment. The child was happily munching on a piece of bread, seemingly in heaven, draping himself across Regulus' carpet like it was a cloud. On closer inspection, Regulus deduced that the child was no more than four years old, and had been presumably surviving off whatever he could steal from a less careful shop owner.
"Yum" the kid said as he cleaned his bowl, holding it up toward Regulus. "One more?"
Regulus nodded, pouring more soup for the child. Once he'd eaten to his fill, Regulus spoke again.
"You understand me?"
The child hesitated, then nodded.
"Where are you from?"
The kid shook his head. Either he didn't actually understand, didn't want to talk about it, or he simply didn't know.
"You are alone?"
The child nodded again, staring directly at Regulus.
"What you can do," Regulus hesitated, then continued carefully, "changing your face. Have you always been able to do that?"
The child gave another nod, looking slightly uncomfortable.
"Who looks after you?"
The child shrugged. "Me."
Regulus frowned. Had the kid escaped from an orphanage or something? He could always ask around, but he had a feeling the kid didn't want that.
"You have no name?"
The kid hesitated. "No. No name."
"Well that won't do, will it? We shall have to give you a name. What about..." Regulus thought for a minute.
"Alphard."
Alphard scrunched his nose up, as if testing it out. "Al-faa-rd. Yes. Alfaard. I am Alfaard."
Regulus smiled. The child's English was really very good, considering he had no clue if he was even educated or not.
"My name," Regulus pointed to himself, "is Regulus."
The child blinked at him, as if expecting him to do something. Then, he slowly began to repeat the sound, "Re-gh-yu-los"
Regulus smiled. "Close enough,"

"What's that?"
Alphard had been unofficially living with Regulus for about two weeks, and within that time, Regulus had been clearing out his boxes, ready to set out his plans for the future, specifically, returning to London within the next few months. Within that time, Alphard had picked up on lots of English phrases, and French too, and Regulus was slowly learning he'd have to be incredibly careful with his language when the child was around.
"A photo album. Regardé."
Alphard sat himself down next to Regulus in the armchair, occasionally pointing out spots of interest.
"Who?" Alphard asked, pointing to a rather joyful image of Sirius laughing into a muggle camera. The photo was candid, like Sirius had no clue it was coming, a stark contrast to the wizarding family paintings his mother had framed. This was Regulus' favorite photo of his brother. It was the one he looked the happiest in.
"My brother. Uncle Sirius."
"See-ree-yus" Alphard pronounced carefully, and Regulus watched in fond frustration as the the child, thinking he was being subtle, flashed his eyes bluer than before. "Will I meet him?"
"Perhaps," Regulus said, "Maybe you can meet him soon."

"Well who's this then?" Sirius' voice run out loud and clear from the other side of the enchanted mirror that Regulus had only just managed to repair.
"See-ree-yus!" Alphard declared cheerfully, practically smashing his face into the glass of the mirror.
"Un peu loin, Alphie, you'll hurt your eyes. Look. There's your uncle."
"Uncle?" Sirius wasn't laughing. "Regulus? Explain yourself?"
"I found him." Regulu said quickly, assuring Sirius that Alphie was indeed adopted. "And we're best friends now, aren't we Alphie?"
Alphard nodded rapidly, his eyes fixed on Sirius' arms. "Can I see the skin drawings?"
Sirius looked surprised, but lifted his arm, showing Alphard the tattoos plastered across his pale skin.
"Regh," Alphard had settled on calling Regulus Reg as it was easier for him to pronounce, "I want a skin drawing like Uncle See-ree-yus"
"Not until you're at least eighteen," Regulus snorted.
Sirius watched in amusement as Alphard scrunched his nose up, growing it out rounded like Sirius' nose.
"Oh my god, he's-"
"Yes, I know, Siri."
Alphard giggled gleefully, morphing his face to look exactly like Sirius.
"I look like Uncle See-ree-yus. Now I need the arm drawings."
Great. Regulus mentally facepalmed. "Not a chance, kiddo."
Alphard slid out of his grip to go and play with a few toys Regulus had bought him, and Regulus turned his attention back to his brother.
"Is he coming with you? To England?"
"He'll have to, I'm not leaving him here."
"Merlin, you've gone soft," Sirius said with a scoff, though not an unkind one. He sounded...almost proud.
A silence, and then, "What are you going to tell Mother?"
"I'm not going to."
"What?"
"Alphie doesn't need that kind of negativity in his life."
Sirius stared at him. "Regulus. You're talking about hiding a whole child from your mother. I know you didn't give birth to him but there will be questions about his lineage-"
"Let them question it!" Regulus snapped. "I'm putting you under strict orders not to breathe a single word of his existence to anyone. Yet."
He wasn't being fair to Sirius and he knew it, but something inside him twisted at the thought of anything bad happening to Alphie. Regulus took a deep breath, then said more calmly, "I'm going to stay elsewhere until I can take over Grimmauld Place. Alphard will be coming with me, and I don't care what the Daily Prophet says about him. He deserves to have his life, Sirius, he's so young."
Sirius nodded. He understood what his brother meant. "If you're certain you're ready to be a parent-"
"Oh, I'm not. Not at all. But I have to. For him."
Sirius grinned, "Just wait until he meets Teddy."
"Oh, Merlin's balls-"

"Have you got everything you need?" Regulus nudged Alphie's shoulder with his fingertips as Alphie clutched a bag. A new bag Regulus had bought for him, for his new start in England.
"What about if England doesn't love me?" Alphie scrunched his nose up, looking up at Regulus. Regulus gave him a smile. Sirius was right. He had gone completely soft for the child.
"Then England can show itself out of the door. You are my son, Alphard Black, and regardless of anyone else's opinion, I love you. Remember that."
And with that, Alphie wrapped his small fingers around Regulus' outstretched thumb, following the man into the airport.

Will we eventually get to meet Regulus' old partner? If not, will Regulus remain cool single dad, or will he get a partner? (Either an OC or a character in the Marauders era.)
Also, I love seeing Harry and Alphie together! I'd love to see more of them together when you get the chance/if you feel like it!
Hello there!
As for Regulus’ former partner / Alphie’s other parent, I’d say we’ll eventually meet them. The only hint I can give you is that they’re originally from Egypt.
Also, the only thing this parent seems to have passed on to Alphie are some health or magical conditions. Otherwise, he is a Black through and through.
The mystery of his other parent is going to be a pretty big deal for Alphie, especially since he has no information about them. He knows he can’t push his father to talk, because of the Unbreakable Vow Regulus made years ago. However, Regulus did imply that even though he can’t speak about it, it shouldn’t stop Alphie from doing his own research and digging into the truth.
And for Regulus, let’s say he is chronically single…He is pretty against the idea of having other children, because it would endanger Alphie’s claim into inheritance. Regulus had to legally legitimize his son, who was, according to pureblood laws, a bastard due of the inadequate marital proofs.
And as for Alphie and Harry… don’t worry! You’ll be seeing A LOT of them! They both have their own things going on, and they support each other, like when it comes to finding out more about Alphie’s “““mom”””.
(Also, keep in mind it’s just for my AU, people who would like to have different hcs/takes/directions are free to do so! I love this 💕)

I will be honest with you, I am more in other fandoms like the anime/manga/video games ( we can tell with my artstyle I think ), and other books fandom!
But I was also lucky, because I did watch the dead poet society and its one of my fave movies ever 🥹❤️ You know, it’s even the movie that made me want to pursue a teaching/education career for the future, especially since I am a fan of literature ( I always try to drop some book refs when I draw a character reading just like Remus & Alphie with the little prince art ).
Of course, I can’t name all the fandoms I am in, because I am in a lot at the same time, but don’t be shy to ask more about it! 💗💗💗

- Regulus and Alphie don’t live at Grimmauld Place. After winning the Black family fortune and titles from Walburga following Orion’s death, Regulus let her keep Grimmauld out of mercy. It will pass to Alphie after her death. Regulus built a manor where he lives in a more secluded location.
- Regulus & Alphie spend about a month in Egypt every summer.
- In 5th year, Alphie took Herbology classes just to ask Neville Longbottom out (spoiler: he got rejected for the first time ever).
- Alphie plays as a chaser in his Quidditch team.
- He often goes to Hogsmeade just to spend hours talking with Remus in the phone booths.
- Occasionally skips class to smoke joints with Luna Lovegood in the girls’ bathroom.
- Alphie and Harry share the Marauders Map like divorced parents with joint custody; alternating weeks.
- He has one-sided beef with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, whom he judges as a rivals for Harry’s friendship.
- He’s always in the infirmary: either visiting his werewolf friend or healing yet another broken bone. (Madam Pomfrey is so done with him.)
- Regulus turns full Karen mode when called in by the school: until they show him actual proof.
- In 6th year, during winter break, Alphie and Harry used Polyjuice Potion to impersonate James and Sirius to visit Peter Pettigrew in Azkaban. Their resemblance made it easy even when the effect took off.

- His private magic tutor is Dorcas Meadows, who’s also the only maternal figure to him.

As much as I love Barty and Evan ( especially Barty, I wish I was joking I am obsessed with him ), things were more complicated between Regulus and both of them 🫠🫠
I mean, at the end of the day, Regulus is the only one of the 3 who defected as a death eater, and I don’t think with that context that either Barty or Evan took Regulus’ switch of side in a good way, and even less when he returns with a half-blood baby. SO YEAH lowkey Regulus & his baby weren’t safe at all in this situation, especially if the blood status was known by others ( it’s still a kinda private thing ).
However, worry not, there would be mention of both Barty and Evan in this AU, because they are both haunting the narrative ( Peter too! ). I won’t reveal yet what really happened to them.

What would Alphie's animagus/patrons be? 👀👀👀

Soooo for Alphie, if he was an animagus it would be this:
Alphie Feat. His werewolf friend:
I just knew he would be still a canine too! But I felt like he was a little more sly than the typical loyal dog, you get me.
Also, Alphie was the type of little baby/child to smile with his eyes (squinting), just like a fox. It was why Regulus used to call him often "Petit renard" (Little fox). He even has a magical equivalent of a fennec pet ( desert fox from the Sahara ).
However, as much as I would love to see little fox form of him, Alphie never became an animagus. And it’s kinda a big part of his magical background too, because it wasn’t because of the lack of trying. Alphie is a great and gifted wizard, but his magical history, pretty linked with Egypt, has its own quirks.
I also hc Harry to have his own patronus/animagus form being a crow ( because I felt like if he didn’t have to deal the grief of his parents, he would be less inclined to attach his identity with them (?) ). So it makes kinda Alphie and him being inspired from The Fox and the Crow fable.

I know I mentioned I made Regulus in this AU chronically single, but it’s just how I planned to do the story ( there are a loooooootttt going on, it’s just in the opposite of a writer, my skills are only in art so I gotta accept it takes more time for storytelling ), but it’s just the AU I created. Otherwise, my words aren’t law at all. It’s just my little story.
