The Last Dragonborn wasn't originally born as such, but became one by the blessing of Akatosh during the Incident at the Watchtower. With Akatosh's blessing, their bloodline was changed retroactively to have always been Dragonborn.

It works by the same principle as Talos's blood becoming Divine when it was shed before his apotheosis. By the same principle as the Nerevarine only becoming Nerevarine by passing the trials to prove they were. By the same principle as Cyrus the Restless being able to slay Nahfahlaar because he was the HoonDing, before wielding the Blade of A'tor and thus becoming them (both to his denial and displeasure)

By choosing to take up the mantle, it becomes predestined they always would. Prophecy is just weird like that.

I’ve always thought the Niben River area of the Tamriel map looked like a Weird Little Guy. So I made him and I think I would die for him

alright i might be misremembering some things bc it's been a while since i played the skyrim mq but.... man i really wish we could've had a proper conversation with alduin near the end of the game like we do with dagoth ur. like he's the one villain who isn't some Bad Guy gone mad with power he's literally a GOD. he's literally just doing his job!!!!! of ending the world!

i don't like how he's depicted as just a generic power hungry bad guy like isn't being the world eater literally his Purpose....you even have conversations w arngeir and paarthurnax, iirc, about the ethics of killing the "world eater" and if it's okay to let the current kalpa keep going when it's supposed to end. i wish that was a moral dilemma explored more in the game. i would've loved a final conversation between the ldb and alduin where he talks to you and asks you if you know what you're doing, if you know what it means to keep this world going. discussing if it's really your choice to decide when the world ends or stays. about death, rebirth and creation. who are you to interfere with this natural cycle?

i also dont think alduin is doing his job as a god and that is probably why the LDB is sent to beat his ass. alduin isnt ending the world, he wants to be god king of nirn and that is Not his job. but this is never acknowledged at any point and characters like paarthurnax and argeir just act like you are trying to stop him from ending the world. which, why can't i have more meaningful discussions with them about it? is he trying to end the world? is it actually time for the world to even end? why did akatosh even fucking make my ass if i am doing something to potential doom the cycle of death and rebirth?

i think if these were elaborated upon it could work with the other story elements like the thalmor and blades and the civil war and crumbling mede empire and the legacy of the dragonborn emperors (good and bad). but they dont do anything with it. alduin is not meaningfully ending the world he is bringing dragons back to bring back his dragon cult. and we cant even learn about the dragon cult either. we're fighting alduin because he's a big bad dragon who other people dislike because he's mean and wants to rule the place. but its totally okay when other figures who are human (not elves or dragons) want to do that because they're doing it the Objectively Morally Correct Way
