"... and it's worth fighting for."

Misha She/her 25 Bi and I think everyone else is too Currently obsessed with 911 and Buddie, but this too shall pass I write occassionally on my AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/users/Its_upside_down_byers

Hand in hand, we are not closing, but we are tempering our expectations and going to practice patience, right? Buddie canon won't happen in one episode, and we deserve more than one episode of lead up.

people who don’t think buddie is going to happen at this point are like space aliens to me because what do you think WILL happen?? eddie is going to get another girlfriend and say :) oh excuse me Lisa, sorry, i need to take this facetime call from my friend buck. yes i know it’s the middle of our dinner date and this has already happened twice this evening but what if he stubbed his toe? i saw that in afghanistan, he might need my help. Hello Buck.

I’m soooooo behind on post-episode thought dumps which is wild because this is the first time I’m watching episodes live. Anywayyyyyyyyy, I didn’t actually skip Disconnected (8x12), but I wanted to get this out before the next episode airs tomorrow. So here goes for Invisible (8x13) and my slightly off the wall theory that it’s Stuck (2x4) redux.

Archie and his Terrible, Horrible, No Good Day. I understand that his whole predicament was that he was invisible to everyone and that’s how he got into the predicaments we found him in. However, there’s a number of ways to have him be “invisible” in a way that requires 911 that doesn’t also mean that he is stuck (inside the bed, in the undercarriage). These two first calls in particular very much remind me of the calls we saw in Stuck (the guy inside the ATM, the girl with her head in the tailpipe).

Stuck is also the episode in which we really meet the Diaz boys (referring to Eddie and Chris here) and we get an introduction to how Eddie is as a father. Contrast that with Invisible, where we see Helena and Ramon’s style of parenting and how it drastically differs from how we’ve seen Eddie parent Chris throughout the years. We also get a glimpse into Eddie’s own childhood here and the pressure he’s always felt from his own parents. This is especially underscored with Helena’s little jabs at Eddie throughout the ep: bringing up the report card and parent teacher conversations she knew Eddie wasn’t a part of, offering him the “extra” honor roll parent bumper sticker, judging him over the groceries in his car and framing Ramon as the “parent” in their conversation about Chris’s chess tournament. (There’s also a slight nod again to Eddie Begins when we learn that Eddie isn’t just Ubering people but he’s also doing grocery delivery. Remember when we learned he had to work three jobs to keep afloat after being discharged from the Army?)

It’s also interesting that in this episode, Helena uses the phrase “the Diaz boys” to refer to Ramon and Chris when for us as the audience it’s always been Eddie and Chris. Ramon then corrects her to “the Diaz men,” further highlighting that divide between the Helena/Ramon school of parenting and Eddie’s version.

Going back to Stuck, that is also the episode in which we see Eddie turn down the girls at the bar and talk to Buck about why he doesn’t date. He then says the line we all remember, “You live in your invisible girlfriend’s house.” Flip to now, and we have Buck living in his invisible best friend’s house? But we also see him and Eddie in constant communication which contrasts him and the silence he received from Abby, which is something Buck talked about in Stuck—learning where Abby was via Instagram instead of her telling him.

Stuck is also the first time we see Buck step into the mess with Chris—driving him to the hospital when abuela broke her hip, telling Bobby about Eddie needing to bring Chris to the station, and ultimately connecting Eddie with Carla. Similarly, we see Buck again stepping into the mess with Eddie, talking him through the issue with Eddie’s parents and telling him to “dad up.”

Further, we see Eddie starting to build his family at the 118 in Stuck through the montage of Chris hanging out with the 118. We as the audience are getting introduced to his support system in LA (Pepa and abuela) and are seeing him build out the rest of it on screen. Invisible shows us that the 118 is still his family. He’s one of the only ones to remember Hen’s birthday, and we finally get a FaceTime call that isn’t just Eddie and Buck but Chim is there too. It feels like the show is reminding us that, even though he’s in Texas, his family is still the one he built in LA. (See my theory about the Texas arc being an extended Eddie Begins.)

Then we get that conversation between Maddie and Buck about Eddie and Chris in Stuck. “Christopher feeing like a burden on his dad.” “Eddie doesn’t feel that way.” Buck really hammering home for the audience how great of a father Eddie is in this conversation. Interesting, then, that the word “burden” is used when Eddie asks to take Chris to the chess tournament when he’s never used that word in reference to parenting before. This one is a little harder for me to parse the relevance of, but maybe it’ll come to me later on.

Then we have the famous “So does this boycrush on Eddie mean that you’re ready to move on from Abby?” in Stuck. This one isn’t paralleled in Invisible but actually goes back to Holy Mother of God (8x11) when Maddie and Buck are talking about the possibility of Buck being in love with Eddie (“It wouldn’t be so crazy”).

There’s also a few callbacks here that are for other previous episodes. The Diaz family dinner and the dinner when Taylor and Buck come over to Eddie’s house in Outside Looking In (5x11)—Eddie cooks but the Diazes bring their own food/Taylor eats ahead of time. Hen’s speech to Archie reminds me of her speech to the OG 118 in Hen Begins (2x9). These are opposite issues, in fact Hen makes a point that being invisible to the old guard at the 118 is a better position to be in than being overly seen. However both episodes are about Hen (and by extension Archie) learning how to take up space. One could apply this to Eddie too, finally being seen as Chris’s father and taking up the space that’s always belonged to him. Then of course there’s the child ballroom dancing champion Eddie Diaz lore to mirror child figure skating champion Bobby Nash from Malfunction (3x8). And again back to Eddie Begins with Chris and Eddie leaving the Diaz house versus Chris and Eddie leaving El Paso for LA (3x15).

Now what does this all mean? The real answer is that only Tim knows. But I believe Tim is making all these callbacks for a reason. He wants us to remember the history that’s been built between Eddie and Buck (and the rest of the 118). He wants us to be thinking about the significant moments in these characters lives, especially Buck and Eddie’s, because he’s building towards something—Buddie canon if you ask me.

P.S. Sooooooo happy that Athena and hens friendship is back on screen. Toni too!

I have no clue how old this is, but thank you so much ✨️💕✨️

how would people feel about a buddieblr discord. as the name implies specifically for people on tumblr to chat and keep in touch as tumblr's future is so uncertain right now. i want to make it as simple and not overwhelming as possible. because i know discord can be overwhemling for a lot of people. so not too many channels. some buddie specific channels. general 911 chat. livewatch. an art corner. i set up the bare bones of one so thought i'd put the question out there.

okay so -> buddieblr discord. i've set up the channels. i'll sort out roles etc. tomorrow as it's the middle of the night here currently. but that's the link. i'll do a proper post at some point.

What I really find insane about the 'competition' comment that Tommy makes is that he is equally implying that Eddie has feelings for Buck, but Buck doesn't even pick up on it. Refuses to acknowledge it even, because Eddie is straight. AND HE WAS A RENTER, DAMN IT.

See I took this to mean Tommy fighting with Eddie for Buck’s attention. As in, Tommy knows Buck likes Eddie, even if Buck doesn’t actually know this. Therefore, Eddie is Tommy’s competition for who gets Buck’s love (even though we all know who’s gonna win so it was never a competition to begin with, homeboy is literally in Eddie’s kitchen).

For sure, and that is the direction the show went with too! My point is that this simple comment could have been taken many ways, but Buck latched on hard to him being the one in love with Eddie. When that's simply not what Tommy said.

That’s a terrifying answer, have a nice day

THE ORIGINAL?!?!!!!!!!!;!!!!!!!!???

okay i’ve got like 7 anons in my inbox talking about the eddie anon, nobody really knows what/who is in an episode until it reaches our tv screens, sometimes not even the cast knows what episode they’re gonna be in (like sue’s actress debra said) until it airs.

people are basically reading fan theories and then repeating them as facts to other people or believing information with literally no source behind it because someone they like to believe has said it.

the theory last week was that eddie wouldn’t be in 13 because brenna didn’t film anything with him and that all his story would be in 14/15, and now this week it’s that he won’t be 14/15 because he was in 13 😭

and yeah maybe it is true, like i said that is fine if it is, but this weekly conspiracy/fear-mongering is a little tired now.

Canada, US, i have a question for y'all. Specifically those who have interacted with montanans and albertans.
