Went on Bluesky to talk about how odd it was that Eve’s death wasn’t documented in the Bible and I had a bunch of people randomly bring up Adam to call him this abusive, misogynistic monster who hates his wife and forced her to have two kids with him.

The consequences of pop culture influencing how people view religious characters lol.

My spiciest take is while I don’t expect Adam to be this super feminist icon with modern progressive values, I think narratives that frame him as an abusive misogynist are just boring. It’s the same issue I have with people portraying Lilith as this badass girlboss who did nothing wrong.

Part of what makes the story of Adam and Eve so impactful is that there was a sincere, genuine love between them that was corrupted by one simple act, but they still remained together and had a family.

I think there’s a lot of ways to critique how the story of Adam and Eve is used to justify the misogynistic treatment and oppression of women, but trying to make Adam the embodiment of those harmful values just doesn’t work. He’s literally just a guy.
