Ngl haven’t had much time to watch the tournament so the Final Four was really the first time I fully locked in, and my god that was depressing. The only thing I will say is that it made me a huge Lauren Betts fan — from reading those profiles on her she just seems like a player who wears her heart on her sleeve and feels things on such a deeper emotional level. Sort of like with Iga, it’s fascinating seeing how she can be a 6’7 world beater but also so vulnerable in a good or bad way at the same time.

Also, it doesn’t sit right with me the way people talk about her. Like saying “I like Big Betts” on TV knowing perfectly well that being referred to that is a huge insecurity for her? Idk how to describe it but a ton of the shit that is used to describe her and the way she presents herself/her demeanor sometimes comes off weird dog whistle-esque behavior toward women who don’t match traditional standards of femininity

should have been addressed much earlier for sure, and this isn't like "perfect" but i'm glad she addressed it, and i hope she can continue to grow from this and become more accepting and inclusive because she is 19 and talented and if she wants to have a good career, this is something that she needs to figure out. i also want to see the growth. that's the next step.

also olivia miles has a very interesting tiktok repost that may mean all those conversations didn't go that great.
