Hello Tumblr! I'm Inkeyjay, a concept artist and illustrator fresh on the app, passionate about dnd, tarot and the stars. Meet Vithre, one of my latest oc's, a mourning cleric seeking knowledge and solace from a life of wasted prayers
๐Okay so some LORE about this lady incoming so if you're one of my fellow party members ๐ช๐ช๐ช back off now. Kinda a short story.
๐ฉธBlood in the Water๐ฉธ
The first sentence she was able to mutter after two days of staring at the horizon by the sea was a request. To the sound of the waves crashing against the cliffs, the sea foam and the blue dephts below, and the light that guides souls ashore like a gentle star in the sky of The Sea that waits. To the object of her devotion since she was old enough to pray, The Lady in blue and gold herself, Lassevine.
"Return him to land, and bring me with you. Take me in your embrace instead. Please"
That's what she whispered, knees deep in seawater, with the uttermost respect of someone who knows that what they're asking for is no mere plea. And the waves kept crashing, the sea foam sizzling. Again, and again, and again, and again.
Vithre finally snapped after two days of standing still, almost waiting for the correct moment, tears filling her eyes. And she would have stayed there, still, until the water took her, if not for her sister and some of the priestesses, that dragged her to the temple the dawn of the third day.
She dedicated her soul and body, blood, sweat and tears to Death. Years and years of devotion, ofputting aside the feeling she didn't belong in those cold mausoleums that stenched of incense and salt, trusting her family and the Goddess.
"And for what?"
For Her to snatch her son out of her arms, in a twist of fate. A funny thing, fate. A whole life of accurate predictions, for a sudden storm to take it all away. He was the best of them, and he didn't see the clouds gathering over the ship. No mother should ever outlive her son, but the sea had other plans.
And so, when Vithre could walk again to the shore some days later, she spoke once more, and now she raised her voice. A question. Repeated, turned into scream.
"Why?"
All she got in return was the waves, the sea foam, the water when the blood dripping from her clenched fists stained it's surface. She had never known a silence this painful. The wind caressed her skin, cold as ice, while black clouds slowly gathered in the sky. It was not raining, but lightning flashed in the distance. And with it she found unexpected relief. Maybe purpose.
Vithre stepped out of the water and turned to the sea once more, with the distant storm still resonating in her chest. A promise calmly left her lips this time.
"Even if i have to sink into the inky depths of the ocean, even if i have to rip your damp corroded heart to pieces. I will bring him back."
And it was sealed with thunder.
If you read all this hope you liked it mwah๐โจ
