In the end, they died — but before being martyrs, they had been warriors; and before being warriors, they had been students. Then again, in 1976, it was hard to tell one from the other. But, before being anything else, they were simply James and Lily: two awfully temperamental and stubborn teenagers that, somehow, ended up fighting in the same side of a terrible war.
In the end, they died, but this is a story about their lives.

FROM THE ASHES: A NEW JILY / MARAUDERS ERA FIC!!!

I've been meaning to publish a multi-chapter Marauders Era fic for SO long and I'm finally going to do it... which is both scary and exciting because I've never published any of my Jily fics online. Special thanks to @clare-with-no-i because her advice to 'just go for it' was the final push I needed to do this <3 So, with no further ado, I present to you: FROM THE ASHES!!

Follow James Potter, Lily Evans and your favourite co-dependant dead teen wizards as they scour through a magical Scottish castle for the junior Death Eaters that have been leaving ominous propaganda everywhere. Teenage drama ensues; mysteries abound; friendships rise and fall; political strategy is thoroughly discussed. Flirtatious banter makes up half of the dialogue; 70s music is described in loving detail; the highs and lows of Hogwarts Quidditch are meticulously explored; and Severus Snape has, overall, a terrible time. James calls Lily "Sherlock" and Lily calls James "Watson" and they turn out to be the best pretend-Aurors / pseudo-detectives Hogwarts has ever seen.

All of this and much more in From The Ashes!! Coming soon to AO3 ;)

Hiiii so I don't know if anyone remembers me. About a thousand years ago (2021) I popped in here and published a single one-shot (still up on my AO3 page) and a chapter for a canon-compliant Jily longfic. Then, stuff happened and I vanished from the face of the Earth.

Anyway, I recently reread The Life and Times by Jewels5 (a classic) and I'm back on my Jily shit. I want to give this fanfic, From The Ashes, another try, so the first chapter has been uploaded to my AO3. I already wrote the first 100k words (10 chapters) so hopefully, I will follow through this time. I would love to know everyone's thoughts and comments on it :)

Also, I haven't been a part of this fandom in a while but I'm in desperate need of good Jily fics so all recommendations are very welcome!!

CH IX: A Trip To The Dungeons (alternatively, no more secrets pt ii)

Lily goes to the Dungeons, thrice. Frank asks for help, twice. Multiple secrets come to light.

His muscles ached. The pain ran deep within his body, rattling through his bones, through his joints; a thousand little needles prickling under his skin. His whole body had twisted, recoiled into a monster overnight: bones splintering, muscles stretching, organs shrinking — only to snap back together as the sun rose. At sixteen years of age, Remus Lupin had made a good acquaintance out of pain. Pain meant he was awake, pain meant that he was alive. Pain meant that he was human again.  He stirred in his bed, blindly reaching for the nightstand. As usual, his fingers found a small bottle with a thick, lime-green liquid inside — it smelled horrible but tasted like chocolate and coconut. Remus chugged it in a matter of seconds. He might be a werewolf but at least his painkillers were easy to swallow. There had to be some balance in the world.  “Oh, good,” said a voice by his side, “you’re alive.”

CH VIII: What Happens in Hogsmeade (or, No More Secrets Pt I)

All good Hogsmeade trips include three things: alcohol, drama and secrets.

The Common Room was empty that day, unusually serene. It was the type of anticipative quality that characterised Hogsmeade mornings: a suspenseful silence, intermittently broken by the crackling fire. The calm before the storm, one could say. “What are you doing today?” asked Lily, absentmindedly flicking through a Transfiguration textbook.  Mary and she had agreed to wake up early, hoping to tackle some of the following week’s homework. So far, they had been unsuccessful.  “Oh, the usual,” said Mary, glancing at her Herbology essay with little dedication. “I’m meeting my many, many lovers. They can’t get enough of me.”  “Can I join?” “Sure. Then your actual boyfriend can meet my imaginary ones — sounds like a blast.”  “Benjy isn’t my boyfriend.”  “Of course he is.”  Lily chewed on her lip. “Technically, he isn’t. We haven’t really talked about labels— we’re trying to, you know, be cool about it.”  “Cool?” “Yeah, it’s… chill.”  “Chill?” Mary snorted. “Is Benjy aware of that?”  “I think so.”

CHAPTER VII: Who Is The Dancing Queen?

Sirius Black is the Dancing Queen, which warrants a whole week of celebration. Coincidentally, the first match of the Quidditch season arrives. Drama ensues.

It all began with a Howler.  Most things Sirius Black related began with a bang, and his birthday, naturally, was no exception. If anything, November 3rd was the pinnacle of his theatrics, a day where the celebration of his birth was not only encouraged but strictly enforced by The Marauders. Come to think of it, a Howler was the perfect way to begin the festivities of Sirius’ seventeenth birthday.  “Happy birthday, Sirius,” said Mary, as he sat down next to her.  The Great Hall was bustling with people, but his friends were nowhere in sight.  Alice, across from them, grinned. “All plans are in order for the celebration, I hope?”  “All in due time,” Sirius said with a wink. “Should I be scared?” asked Mary.  “Terrified.”

happy new years everyone hope 2025 is an amazing year for everyone <3

You guys are NOT kind enough to Molly Weasley after what she went through. Losing both her brothers in the first war, her daughter being possessed by Voldemort, her youngest son nearly getting killed every year, taking in a random kid who was being abused by his guardians, nearly losing her husband, losing one of her sons . She is ALLOWED to be a bitch actually. All she was trying to do was protect her children from the fate her brothers experienced. I won't let you mfs act like she was evil for trying to protect Harry.

LET!!!! MOTHERS!!!! BE!!!! FLAWED!!!!!!! AND!!! COMPLEX!!!

CHAPTER VI: Blood Runs Thicker

Halloween arrives at Hogwarts with plenty of surprises. Sirius is angry. Mary meets someone. Lily has a theory.

When he was young, Regulus dreamed of being just like his brother.  Sirius had always been electric: a forceful, titanic arrangement of bloody knuckles and dark smiles, equal parts playful and fatal. He had always been oddly sophisticated, mature, as though he was not interested in waiting to grow up. Sirius, after all, was not known for his patience. He didn’t wait. He made things happen, he changed the course of the tides, baring his teeth like a dog ready to attack. There was nothing sanguinary or fatal about Regulus. Where Sirius grew strong and defiant and audacious; he had grown pale and slender and acquiescing. There were no inherent remarkable differences between them: they carried the same grey eyes, the same raven-black hair, the same angular, aristocratic details — and, yet, Sirius carried himself like something caustic, while Regulus carried himself like something fragile.
