It clung to skin like a second layer, sliding down the backs of necks and behind knees, making clothes feel too tight, hair too much, air too little. Even the breeze had given up, leaving the sky suspended in a sultry, unmoving haze.

The kind of summer night where the ground still radiated the day’s heat, where the air felt like you could chew it. Where sweat beaded just from breathing.

It was the kind of night where you knew something would happen.

Yet, Soobin and his friends stood at the edge of Jay’s lawn like it was cursed land.

Beomgyu had kissed you.

Again. And you had let him. Again.

Except, this time, it wasn’t in a heated argument. It wasn’t in the middle of some stupid, tension-fueled fight where neither of you could tell whether you wanted to kill each other or rip each other’s clothes off. This time, he had kissed you after taking you out. After buying you dinner. After walking you home with his arm wrapped around you, his touch casual, like it belonged there. Like it wasn’t dangerous.

It had been soft. Warm. His lips had brushed against yours like a promise, like something new and terrifying was settling into place between you. And you had kissed him back. Not because you were drunk. Not because you were mad. But because, in that moment, you had wanted to.

Which meant you were completely, irrevocably screwed.

You don’t even slow down when the security guy waves you through. You just nod, half-running, half-tripping your way down the hall, heartbeat still syncing to the chaos of the crowd behind you. You can hear the music blaring from the locker room already, some obnoxious victory playlist on full volume, someone yelling about Gatorade, a chant of “LET’S GO!” echoing off the walls.

You're in and Jake’s the first one who sees you. He’s got no shirt on, towel draped around his neck, cheeks flushed and hair a mess, and the second his eyes lock onto yours, he breaks into this wide, boyish grin that makes your knees give out a little. He doesn't even say anything, he just runs straight to you and scoops you into a hug so tight it knocks the air out of your lungs.

“I told them to let you in,” he mumbles into your hair. “Didn’t think I’d actually survive long enough to see it.”

Sunghoon’s behind him, already peeling Jake off you so he can get his own hug in, nearly lifting you off the ground with how tight he holds you. “We fucking did it,” he says, half-laughing, half-breathless. “Did you see that touchdown? I blacked out halfway through, I swear.”
