Welcome

This pinned post is here to keep track of what I’m up to, and to set some ground rules.

What I’m Up To at the Moment

Ground Rules

  • Don’t follow me if you’re a pure porn blog* (i.e., all you do is reblog animated .gifs of people engaged in explicitly sexual activities).  I will block and report you.  I do not have issues with sex workers, but if your blog is centered around that, I’m not really interested.  * Obviously porn bots can’t parse this, but I’ll block those, too.
  • NEW! I realize that the slew of recent empty-blogs-with-stolen-pictures-of-young-women are probably all AI-generated; however, please know that I firmly and absolutely support complete bodily autonomy, which is the freedom of all adults to have complete freedom of choice over when and where they do or do not grant the service of their bodies (and mind) to other people (which in my mind also includes fetuses), and be free from coersion, duress, or undue influence when contemplating those decisions.  This is non-negotiable.  If you are an anti-abortion blog (or your AI has somehow generated a name like “anti-abortion-informan”), do not interact with me.
  • I’ll also generally block empty blogs* and blogs whose sole reason for existence is to promote goods for sale, “hot girls” games/media, as well as blogs that promote a “luxury lifestyle”. * If your blog is empty because you haven’t gotten around to writing anything or reblogging anything, that’s totally okay, but please consider sending me a DM to say hi.  You don’t have to say anything more that that -- it just helps me weed out the bots and scammers.
  • If I do not know you (i.e., I don’t follow you and therefore have a sense that you are, in fact, a real person) and you send me an ask asking for money or asking me to appeal on your behalf for money for you to take care of <insert heartstring-tugging situation here, such as a sick pet/child/friend, personal medical bills, etc.>, I will delete your ask.  If you follow me, I’ll take a look first, but I’ll delete asks from complete unknowns. I’m sorry, but this is a common scam -- if you’re actually for real, you can thank all the scammers for making it impossible for me to trust the plea of a complete stranger on the Internet.
  • Likewise, don’t tag me in a plea for money if you’re a complete stranger. I’ll report the post and block you, so just leave me out of it, thanks.
  • I think it’s vanishingly unlikely that white supremacists, incels, TERFs, anti-LTBTQ+ or other exclusionary/fascist-leaning blogs are going to be interested in this blog, but don’t bother: I will block you.
  • I’m here for fandom, Ancient Egypt, and sheer nerdery, with a side of Stoicism, history, discussions of ways to identify and avoid undue influence, and the seeking of the Light (though that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate dark humor).  If that’s you, too, then welcome!

any time i hear the insufferable transphobic athlete arguments i think of that one time in middle school when my boys lacrosse team did a full-contact scrimmage against the girls team (who typically play with limited contact) and i, a six-foot, 180lb defender, got utterly laid-out by this 5-foot-nothing girl experiencing the newly-unleashed animosity accompanied by violent sport and as i looked up at my assailant from flat on my back i experienced a brief bout of heterosexuality and fell wildly in love and then had to be taken to the ER because i had a concussion

“from flat on my back i experienced a brief bout of heterosexuality” took me out

That was the concussion

Could you maybe reblog this post if you think respecting trans peoples' names and identities is a basic right and not a political opinion?

No pressure. Just seeking some validation of my sentiment. Due to some. people

everybody go home the best tag on this post just dropped

I'm sorry I'm going fucking insane over trans people in sports issues the anti trans crowd has lost the fucking plot and then has the audacity to act like its the trannies who are ridiculous

I used to be of the "well the sports issue isn't really important to me its w/e I just don't want it to be a gateway into other transphobia" but oh my fucking god we are so far gone. The fencing shit is sending me over the edge. What the fuck.

I can't even articulate my words so I'm just going to tell a story in screenshots

I am so fucking tired of being gaslit about this

I'm also still so fucking pissed that we have to include "ooo the trans fencer only finished in X place" because its a reminder that trans women will never be allowed to excel at anything in the public eye without being cut down. Fuck OFF

I hope that everyone who comes up against Stephanie forfeits to her. I hope she makes it to the very top, and wins a tournament, purely because everyone refused to fence her. I hope that she never again knows what it's like to win by her own merit again.

Scrolled past this agakn and just can't get over how much I love it. We need to make things beautiful again and this is such a wonderful example. The beadwork on the wires of a utitarian object, contrasted with the grey concrete.

Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams

I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.

About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.

My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)

And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.

This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.

I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.

And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.

Yup. Got the old "I want to pay you $5000 for a picture of Spider-Man for my 5-year old son" on ArtStation "It's someone else's IP, so I can't help you," I replied, knowing full well it was an advance payment scammer. "Go to Walmart and by a licensed Spider-Man poster for not more than $20. Your son will not know the difference."

They also tried that with my mom. She simply insisted on following her policy, which is sending an invoice for the agreed-upon amount, and only accepting that. So of course they disappeared.

Do not feel bad if you were scammed. No one is born with this knowledge, and everyone is vulnerable. Make sure you pass this on, and make sure we in the artists community are always doing our best to educate one another about this stuff.
