Late 20s. She/They. Pre-Everything mess. New to Tumblr, probably will be bad at this. Habitual Lurker

I reblogged a couple of things before writing this, mostly because posting is scary, especially on a new site. But anyway, gonna do an incredibly awkward intro post here because I felt like it.

Hi! I'm Jade, or Sojourn, and my pronouns are She/They as in "Wants She/Her but is okay with They/Them". I am a Transfem who's only started admitting that to herself within the last year, so I'm still figuring stuff out. I'm also disabled due to cancer complications in high school.

I'm a bit of a writer (not a great one, but I like to think I'm okay). Maybe I'll post some stuff on here if I can force myself to get over the anxiety of publishing anything. My other main hobbies include reading (I don't wanna talk about how many AO3 tabs I have open right now, and the fandom switches depending on whatever's managed to gain status as my hyper focus that month), and video games (Honestly mostly ESO at this point, but I do other things too).

Anyways, I'm probably messing this up, so I'm just gonna end it there. I'll see you all around!

honestly being around people who are not uncomfortable with you having feelings and desires makes the people who were uncomfortable so much worse in retrospect

like. oh! you were just evil

Fucking wild to be teaching about Rosa Parks at the same time as a trans woman in Florida does an act of civil disobedience to use a women's restroom in the state capitol

As far as I know, she is the first woman arrested bc of this law. The law requires that the trans person be warned to leave the bathroom by a state official, and then if they stay they are guilty of trespassing after a warning.

So like, me, my gf, others just piss and nobody asks or tells, but this young woman sent a statement about the law to over 100 FL lawmakers so they would know she was coming, the cops were ready for her, she brought a reporter and went in anyway and spent the night in a men's jail. She is out on bail, and is hoping this will inspire change of the law. But if found guilty, and the law is upheld as constitutional, then she could spend up to 60 days in a mens county jail.

Forcemascing? Yeah that exists it's called conscription

This joke brought to you by "please understand the construction of the gender hierarchy to an extent where you can figure out why forcefem started as a humiliation kink aimed at men that accidentally appealed to transfem eggs, while stories about women dressing up as men are often presented as heroic in contrast"

gender roles and patriarchy can be a comforting backup plan for women in a world where economic independence and living comfortably aren’t guaranteed, let alone at the same time. i understand the temptation to give in and just become what the world says you would be happiest being. it’s why conservatism and traditionalism becomes more popular in times of turmoil. people are tired of uncertainty and progressivism can feel even more intimidating when you’re tired. like i get it, but i also think it’s the equivalent of working for raytheon to some extent yknow? it’s a comfortable job that pays very well, and i can understand Why, but the harm it does in the long term makes you irrevocably responsible in part for it. just because something is enticing doesn’t mean you’re absolved of wrongdoing or harm caused because of your choice to be enticed

Trans allyship means not acting insulted if someone calls you trans, by the way. Like that's a pretty big cornerstone actually. It's a genuinely important part of trans allyship that if someone says you are trans (either as a misunderstanding or meant as an insult), you do not go 'ew no i'm cis, how dare you'.

No amount of 'it's fine to be called trans if you're actually trans' will cover up the fact that your immediate reaction was to distance yourself from trans people and paint us as a bad group to be a part of. Trans allyship requires more from you than just thinking trans people deserve to exist, and at a bare minimum it requires an understanding that "trans" is not an insult.

before you make that post about "the crisis facing men and boys" or "preventing redpill radicalization" stop and check in:

is your proposed solution

  1. increased labor of women and girls
  2. women and girls enduring more abuse for the benefit of men and boys
  3. women and girls suppressing their emotions (fear, anger, resentment, etc.) and limiting their speech
  4. blaming populations of women (e.g. trans women, women involved in sex trades, racialized women) for the actions of men and expecting these women to endure punishment for men
  5. focusing on maintaining manhood and masculinity while reducing the discomfort men feel about holding this position; framing men's feelings of insecurity as the central issue to be addressed when it comes to violent misogyny

if so:

your "solution" to behavioral patterns emerging within patriarchy is more patriarchy.

instead:

try to imagine literally anything else.

You ever think about the MOVE bombing and then think about the fact that so few US Americans even know that the MOVE bombing like. Happened.

"The United States is dedicated to moving bombs away from people who would use them for nefarious purposes! Google MOVE bombing to learn more!"

jesus christ 😐

this also doesn't come close to telling the whole story.

the Philadelphia police harassed the MOVE organization for over a decade. MOVE began with peaceful protests against conditions at long-term-care facilities and against the city Zoo's mistreatment of animals. in 1972, police classified the group’s use of profanity as riotous and designated them violent threats to public order. the actual reason was their radical abolitionist message.

the Philadelphia police department had a brutal, corrupt, and racist reputation long before MOVE entered the picture. despite that fact, MOVE’s claims of police brutality typically fell on deaf ears, even when they had undeniable proof of mistreatment. the bombing is only one part of the story both because it is the culmination of violence between MOVE and the police and also because it is part of the broader narrative of police brutality in Philadelphia that is still largely played out today.

in 1957, two Black men were beaten by three off duty and allegedly drunk police officers, putting one in the hospital for 19 days. the commissioner at the time testified that all officers were trained in "race relations," which involved things such as having officers brandish shotguns out the window of their patrol vehicles as a show of force in so called "shotgun squads." the three officers were not convicted of any crimes.

in 1960, shots indiscriminately fired by officer Robert Marinelli killed two innocent Black bystanders. Marinelli was charged, tried, and then found not guilty on all charges by an all-white jury.

in 1967, a guy named Frank Rizzo became the police chief. his nickname while working in West Philadelphia as a captain was "The Cisco Kid," which referenced the fictional cowboy who "killed for the love of it or any other reason that came to mind." he referred to "vermin" in Philadelphia as the source of the crime and decline.

shortly after he was appointed, he sicced 300 officers in riot gear on Black students and advisors protesting the Board of Education who were protesting the lack of Black studies and Black teachers. Rizzo ordered the officers to "get their Black asses." 57 protesters were arrested, dozens were beaten, and 15 were hospitalized. Frank Rizzo was elected Mayor of Philadelphia 3 years later and during his bid for re-election in 1975, he said that he would "make Attila the Hun look like a faggot" once he was reelected.

so yeah, not only is the MOVE bombing virtually unheard of by the average person in America (and it's not much better in academia, for that matter), but the story that is often told when people do hear about is that this all happened in a vacuum "due to the actions of a violent Black resistance group." in reality, it was the culmination of over 50 years of brutality against Black people and minorities in Philly.

"there's no girls on the internet" is maybe my least favourite phrase like more phrases have caused more harm but never has a phrase that is so comedically evil been said so casually and been so omnipresent

Like I hope no one who follows me is unfortunately in a place that still says this, it's very much a pre-2020s phrase but saying "there's no girls on the internet" simultaneously misgenders and disrespects all the trans women who've contributed to the modern internet but also is a self-admittance that not only have you created a space so hostile to women that you can't even imagine the concept of a woman wanting to engage with it, that it is bad to a point of delusion when a woman does decide to wade through all the misogyny that surrounds your swamp of a community you insist she's faking

On one hand, it's great to see people learn how to unfuck their living spaces. On the other hand, that stuff like "frequently used articles should be stored near where they're used" and "trash receptacles should be placed near activities that generate trash" are being received as radical ideas points to a serious knowledge transmission problem.

Some people's parents get Really Weird about trash cans and practical items being where they can be seen, is part of the problem here

Source: currently a janitor at a church and you would not believe how many boomers get upset with me for insisting the trash cans need to be practical and easy to use instead of out of sight and too cute for functionality

including in the actual bathrooms

actually no sorry there's a list here

things people have told me are "tacky" and that I need to get rid of (they have lost many of these arguments because I'm a bitch, others are ongoing)

an umbrella stand by the door with spare umbrellas for parishioners to use

a table by the front door "because people keep putting things on it" (that was. Why that table was there)

the signs that directed people towards the bathrooms

the actual trash can in the bathroom "because surely we don't need one so big" (for the bathroom that services the fellowship hall, which hosts things like the local scout events, so yes we need one that's at least 20 gallon)

apparently it's also tacky if I write down when I changed things like batteries and air fresheners, on a calendar they'll never see unless they go into my office??

another table in another waystation type area because "people keep putting things on it" (even when it's completely clear)

signs we are legally required to post

What the fuck is wrong with people

voice acting as a profession is so funny because you'll see someone being like "voice actors need to be paid better! like [obscure person you've never heard of]" and you're like "oh I wonder who that person is, maybe I've heard them voice a character" and you look it up and it turns out they voice 137 characters in Futurama and 94 characters in The Simpsons and 96 characters in Adventure Time and every one of the My Little Ponies and 27 characters in Arcane and 96 characters in Kim Possible and 4 characters in Phineas and Ferb and 296 characters in Dexter's Laboratory and all of the main cast of Fairly Odd Parents and at least 6 characters in every Pixar movie and almost every animated depiction of Superman and 473 SpongeBob characters and they've been in every installment of Mass Effect and Halo and The Elder Scrolls and Fallout and Call of Duty and they were in Star Trek and Law & Order and they were 12 characters in the MCU and they also invented t-shirts and the colour green and they got paid a sum total of $3.27 and a mothball for all of it combined. then you go burn down David Zaslav's house with him inside
