taylor + 24 + usa the twilight posting never stops main: @nellslions

hi everyone!! i figured now is as good a time as ever to make an intro post about me because i just got back from an irish pub and am feeling ultra sentimental about my place in the twilight fandom.

my name is taylor, and i am now a full fledged adult in almost every way (still can't rent a car as i'm typing this) but i started out with twilight when i was only 11 years old. i began posting on tumblr around 2013, with my old main (@cherryslushy if you really want to go into a deep dive, i won't tho) having some twilight stuff as well. this blog came to fruition under MANY different urls through the years starting in about 2014, and as i've gone through my posts i've realized just how ingrained i was in this community. i'm so happy to be back!!!

it was really random getting back into twilight, but it definitely feels like home. i can see the fandom has changed a lot (very much for the better) but i can still see so many familiar users and i hope to get back in contact with a lot of you, as well as meet new tumblrs as well!

for my twilight interests: i'm definitely a volturi fan, which i think is reflected as i consider my current interests LMAO. i definitely love leaning into the horrific aspect of vampires and just how creepy they can be. twilight, of course, is extremely unique in how it presents its vampires (for better or for worse) and i'm very excited to get back into this lore.

i'm currently rereading twilight for the first time in about 8 (? ish) years and it's definitely an experience! i hope to regain my intense knowledge that i so clearly had as a teenager and would love to talk volturi or any non-cullen covens with you guys :) nothing against the cullens, of course, i still love them despite their flaws!

i'm also trying to get back into twilight fic, so messages just about lore in general or even fun headcanons are extremely welcome. i'd love to get in contact with more twilight mutuals again! i have discord as well, if anyone wants to keep in touch that way :)

i'm so happy to be back! (and with the same kickass url i've loved for so long, rip twilightsaga tho. i traded it for heathers :/)

I feel like it’d be perfectly in-character for Angela Weber to have noticed a lot of the same things about the Cullens that Bella has— the eye colors changing, not eating, etc.— but unlike Bella she is perfectly capable of thinking “that’s not of my business” and just leaving it alone

Bet you didn’t think a cute little baby goat like me, resting beneath a black walnut tree to escape the summer sun, would be proficient in Microsoft Excel, did you. Bet you didn’t expect me to know how to optimize a spreadsheet by implementing conditional formatting rules huh. Bet you took one look at me and thought “no way this kid knows how to use the VLOOKUP function.” Well guess what, I do. I know a diverse array of useful formulas and my body is capable of digesting poison ivy. I eat that shit like potato chips. Get the fuck out of my paddock

the way that bella freaks out over the tour group being murdered by vampires like. ok, i get it she doesn't exactly want to be a monsterfucker she's just an edwardfucker and wants to be with him in any way possible. but like the fact that it doesn't at all cause her conflict in deciding to become a vampire a chapter later is uhhh... as aro would say... fascinating

bella's complete lack of hesitance when it comes to becoming a vampire, even after seeing the potential negative consequences, is a blessing and a curse character-wise imo

a blessing because first and foremost i love that edward and bella are freak4freak so of course i love that she has a one-track mind for her life, and that is dying for edward. consequences and side effects be damned. bella knows damn well that even vegetarian vampires pose a danger to humans because of the bloodthirst, and she dgaf that she'd be adding to the numbers. she's so sure the cullens would never let her hurt anyone, despite knowing it's not that simple. alexa, play toxic by britney spears

but it's also a curse because... well, that's a little neat and tidy, isn't it? bella making her mind up right away and never questioning herself once says a lot about who she is, but it's kind of a main character's job to go on a journey in front of the readers. that doesn't mean that every single choice a character makes has to be a hard one, but this is the big choice of the series for bella.

a question left open by op's post is: "does she not realize she could be that one day (probably not pre-meditated like the volturi, but she could kill innocents by accident), or does she not care?" by failing to have her acknowledge this at all implies the former. but between naivety and ignorance, the latter is more interesting. not having her acknowledge the possibility at all means we don't see her wrestle with it, which is odd because bella is a good, smart person. she's considerate and compassionate. i understand that she probably wouldn't let edward cotton on that she has reservations (which is a whole separate kettle of fish), but we're in her head. she should put 2 and 2 together, and we should see her react to 4.

instead the series ends with "bella was super duper right the whole time and edward was silly for ever doubting her. there was never anything to worry about. her naivety cost her nothing; she's such a perfect vampire she'll never do anything monstrous, ever. yay <3"

i’m about to stream of consciousness this reply so be warned but amazing reply hoa5 LMAO

what really bugs me about this is that bella does struggle with morality through the love “triangle” with edward and jacob. on the one hand, yes, there really was never any question that she would choose edward but she does feel a lot of guilt about hurting her best friend! *keep in mind im still on my eclipse reread so i don’t remember a lot beyond new moon atm

we get to see a lot of what you would expect to come from the vampire transformation being presented in the love triangle instead, but it sort of feels like a totally different character. one bella is absolutely sure of her choice and potential and doesn’t regret choosing to be a vampire- even with dire consequences. another bella is constantly second-guessing her decision because she knows she could be happy-ish with jacob and still keep her family/friends. So essentially, her romance is the usual “becoming a vampire” conflict. while i could be optimistic and say it’s an interesting creative choice, it’s one of the few i just don’t like lol. why can’t there be overlap between her romance and vampire troubles? it often feels like two completely different characters

see i did actually consider the love triangle when i declared that whether 'to vampire or not vampire' is bella's big question of the series. really it's 'to edward or not to edward' but that goes hand in hand with the former. twilight is a love story in which the main conflict centers around vampirism, not the other way around. so it's a little wild that the answer to "how does the main character feel about having to change herself drastically to be with her love?" is "fine, actually!"

the movie marketing around eclipse would have us think it was 'edward or jacob', but in the book and in the movie itself (iirc) it's never really a question. if anything, that question is 'do i take the easy way out? (charlie likes jacob, jacob doesn't have to be immortal, jacob comes with a larger community and a more "normal" life, etc)... which is another way of asking 'to edward or not to edward?' jacob's just the most convenient compromise to play not-edward (he can still protect bella & he's her bff)

this is not entirely related but it's another reason i seethe over bella suddenly being thrilled to have a baby in which she never expressed interest prior. babies were part of the jacob option, which she declined. i hate bd sfm

adding ur tags bc they made me scream and also not adding any more input bc i just love ur response!!
