first time i was in the uk i was like im gonna make yall my favorite breakfast: biscuits and gravy
and everyone made visibly disgusted faces as both ‘biscuits’ and even the style of gravy were lost in translation to recontextualize one of the best meals ever to exist into a complete abomination
for the uninitiated: the biscuits here are like scones & extremely thick, flakey, and usually made with buttermilk. the gravy is thick and heavily seasoned and made with breakfast sausage. i like mine pretty spicy, but you can have it mild. it’s a super filling, hardy breakfast. it’s often an entree served with sides, but it can be a side itself served with bigger breakfast spreads. u can buy the sausage gravy canned which is okay and great for low energy needs and even camping but when i have the time+energy i prefer to make it and the buttermilk biscuits from scratch.
it’s typically a food associated with the south & appalachia but it’s served all over.
