i love pitting classically trained magic users against self-taught magic users in sci-fi/fantasy but it shouldn’t be snobbish disdain for them it should be terror

“WHO TAUGHT YOU LIGHTNING BEFORE BASIC TELEKINESIS. LOSING MY MIND WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST DID IT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAST WITH YOUR BARE HANDS

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT YOU’VE ‘HACKED’ MANA DRAIN

Okay but other direction can ALSO be a lot of fun

“What do you mean I don’t have to burn half my blood to create a fireball?”

“Why can you teleport more than once without vomiting? WTF is ‘quantum displacement awareness’???”

“You know HOW many spells? HOW? ... What do you mean ‘my spell book’?”

“Ooooh, you’re just summoning water portions from the Plane of Water... Lol I thought I HAD to combine hydrogen and oxygen molecules to generate water in small amounts. That’s so much easier then what I was doing!”

being 5'7" is so fucked. AND i'm a top. i suffer more than you could ever know.

giant disclaimer the following screencap is a bad April Fool’s Joke, it is not real.

but I want to discuss it seriously:

a comment I agree with (the first one):

making the idea of her - or anyone - converting into a joke is not actually funny, it’s just mocking converts and making them feel lesser or unwelcome.

furthermore, this:

I see this constantly and I’m tired. someone recently said this on the vent blog too, and with all due respect, it desperately needs to be clarified.

I do not care if you hate Taylor and Selena. I do not care if you love Taylor and Selena. that’s your personal choice and taste, it’s fine!

I do care about us not falling for the same stupid tactics that the unhinged “I hate so and so because they’re a (((Zionist)))!!! boycott! blacklist!” crowd are doing.

I understand, beyond words, how hurt and reactive we all are. still, we’ve got to speak about these things accurately to prevent participating in more discrimination and division.

the charity being supported by the event they attended in December 2023 is ANERA. if you’ve done your due diligence (and I hope you have), then you’d know ANERA is reputable and one of the only organizations on the ground actually helping civilians in Gaza and not funneling money to Hamas. you cannot call that a “pro-Hamas” event. it was not. that’s a gross mischaracterization.

if you have an issue with Jewish charity events getting harassed when they’re trying to help people in need, you should have that energy for charity events that are actually benefiting the people who need it in Gaza.

Selena, oddly enough, is a great example of the divisive rhetoric and misinformation we’re seeing, because the “antizionist” crowd is continually vilifying her for raising money for Magen David Adom. explain to me how both Magen David Adom and ANERA are being characterized as nefarious here? it doesn’t make sense, all it does is expose how bad this lack of nuance has become.

I know very little about Benny, as the only reason he’s in my awareness is the nasty antisemitism thrown at him for his looks and for the fact that he publicly prayed for Israel and frequently wears judaica. that’s enough to make him (((bad))) to the chronically online. we see this with every visible Jew who doesn’t throw themselves to the wolves for scraps of acceptance, and it’s awful.

thus, you cannot say everyone who’s shown support for Gazan civilians is pro-Hamas. that’s false and it’s dehumanizing. it’s no different from Hamasniks calling any Jew they encounter “genocidal.” we have to be better than that, it is incumbent upon us to understand that, and to be clear about people who are doing real and incessant harm.

this extends to everyone who signed the first “Artists4Ceasefire” letter. remember the hostage release letter? and how everyone who signed it is slandered for doing so? it’s infuriating. we can’t exhibit that same behavior. so yes, some of the artists on that list are rancid antisemites, and yes, the red hand pin’s underlying symbolism was vile. the latter issue seems to have finally effectively been addressed. the people who are unerringly antisemitic continue to show themselves. however, many of the artists on that list have not actively participated in antisemitism.

the determination you must then make is the crucial difference between malice and ignorance. many of those people are ignorant. they are not informed, or they are listening to sources that are intentionally misleading, and they don’t have the capacity or awareness to sift through that. while that’s dangerous in itself, and very frustrating, it doesn’t mean they support terrorism or actively hate and want to hurt Jews. I would lay odds that many of the artists who did this see a very simple dichotomy: suffering is bad, so a ceasefire is good. (a premise I, and many others, would agree with, but we understand the intricacies of what implementing that requires, and that it sadly is not this cut and dry). they’re not grasping the fact that so much of what’s been happening under the guise of “protest” is not in favor of a true ceasefire or of peace.

I replied about this on the vent blog and it got me called “evil” lmao, but this extends to celebrities who’ve posted things like PCRF without understanding how many NGOs and charities are institutionally antisemitic or have ties to terrorist groups. most people who see “Children’s Relief” will assume that’s an unquestionably good thing. in different circumstances, I would too. (this to me is very different from supporting UNRWA, where their reprehensible actions are well documented and have been widely reported. you can’t claim ignorance there). most celebs are…not informed or in touch with the wider world. they SHOULD do better research before platforming anything, but they don’t. most ordinary people often don’t either tbh! they see something in front of them that sounds humanitarian and kind and they trust it. they sign it without reading any fine print. think of how constantly that’s happened right here on this website.

it’s not an excuse. if someone is going to weigh in on this they should be better versed in the history and reality, but they just aren’t. my mom and I were talking about this recently, and when I said what I wrote above, that there’s a difference between malice and ignorance, she replied, “are they illiterate?” which. fair. if they don’t read, they don’t investigate further, they don’t spend the time finding out what they’re supporting, then that is a problem and it’s a passive form of harm. that said, I would still argue we MUST be more careful and not call that “pro-Hamas.”

why is this important? because the openly pro-Hamas movement is terrifying, and we have witnessed its spread across the world, on college campuses, in the medical industry, in the arts, in sports, you name it. we’ve seen the extremism stemming from it. if we call innocuous, or even misguided, actions “pro-Hamas” when they are not, we lose the clarity of what that means and what is actually happening, the very real threat and violence that is harming the Jewish community globally.

I am not a proponent of cancel/purity culture. I never have been, and I think being able to separate art from artist is valuable overall (because art is made by humans, and humans are imperfect, and you have to make those considerations for yourself). one of the most difficult things for me in the past year and a half is seeing the vast immersion in antisemitism and the rapid spread of it throughout the entertainment industry, because it’s become impossible to separate from many of these celebrities. I am a big proponent of boundaries and of personally deciding what you can or cannot engage with, what goes too far for you, what you can or cannot suspend to be able to enjoy or appreciate any piece of media, or to understand its purpose or value. I totally get that because I make those determinations for myself, but I don’t believe in imposing it upon others. I’ve used this space to talk about artists whose actions have become untenable for me, and I still recognize that’s my opinion.

I’ve talked before about the AI “All Eyes on Rafah” post (a post generated, provably, by a Hamas affiliated account) almost a year ago being a very upsetting low point, and it brought me to actual tears that day as I unfollowed more people, mostly artists, than I ever have at once. the reason for that was because that post was performative, driven by blood libel and disinformation, entirely unhelpful, and actively impeding to the ceasefire negotiations and to the urgency of the hostage release. that post being shared over 50 million times in 48 hours directly led to the domino effect that ended with, among other tragedies and horrors, Hersh, Eden, Carmel, Ori, Almog, and Alex starved and tortured and shot to death in a tunnel in Rafah. I will never forget that. it’s a permanently etched wound. that said, I don’t expect everyone else to harbor that agony against the celebs I unfollowed that day, because that’s my personal experience and decision. I can’t expect others to understand it. do I think that all 50 million of those people and all the artists who I saw participate in it wanted the outcome of murdered hostages? no. many probably don’t care, and certainly others are hateful and malicious, but overall it was virtue signaling. that doesn’t diminish its complicity for me.

it is your choice to like or dislike whoever you want, to follow whoever you want, to decide for yourself what’s a bridge too far or what hurts too much to accept and look past. there is nothing wrong with making those choices, you have that agency. reasons for this are individual and subjective, but don’t be driven by mistruths or prejudices. to use what’s happened to Gal as an example - if someone doesn’t like her acting, who cares? if someone hates her because of her ethnicity and intrinsic identity, then they’re a bigot.

I’m rambling, but all of this is to say that I believe clarity is important, accuracy is important, truth is important, and nuance is important. these are not imperatives we can sacrifice. now more than ever, when we’re met with abhorrent distortions and hatred every day, we have to be aware of that ourselves and not further it. be informed and aware, and be mindful of what has actually been done or said. this is complex, and we owe it to ourselves to keep our principles firm.

I’m going to reiterate the caption from this post of Hen Mazzig’s last September, happening only days after the beautiful six were found executed.

are they pro-Hamas? or are they just woefully myopic? the distinction matters. you can call out disinformation, bad actions, hypocrisy, and performative activism without mischaracterizing it. please don’t cede your humanity in your anger or grief.

the number of hostages has changed, thankfully some have returned alive since September, but there are still 59 of them.

they remain paramount. not celebrities, not politicians, not bigots, not useful idiots. bring them home.

Omg.. okay I follow a bunch of channels that are made by people who do free cleaning for people in really dire hoarding/damaged house circumstances mostly older disabled people and the free cleanings are often recorded to show how to take care of extremely bad damage to houses yourself, anyway one of them recently had to put out a statement where she said the GREAT MAJORITY of requests for CHARITY CLEANING she gets was fucking LANDLORDS!!!!!! Particularly those that recently had someone move out and want free cleaning before marketing again. And she basically made a big statement politely stating she’ll never do a cleaning for a landlord and they need to stop asking. Ngl that’s some crazy composure if I was in her position I’d just come over and bulldoze the house

I still can’t get over this. Like these are emergency cleanings meant for disabled people in unlivable conditions and the purpose of recording it is to help people learn how to maintain or repair their own homes in bad circumstances. Can you imagine watching someone who regularly deals with biohazards for free and thinking “yeah it’s appropriate to request they clean the housing im holding hostage before I rent it again”

the best artist youve ever see on twitter posts like three perfect pieces a day tagged "rkgk", has an unidentifiable low res jpeg as a profile picture and a username like df23j2r332cj233jc3cd and no you wont ever find them again

just besties talkin bout boysss. hypothetical boys. completely fictional boys, whose made-up actions do not in any way relate to anything anyone has done before. or might be considering doing. i just think having any kind of dating-related conversation with Bill would be really disturbing
