How do I take care of my Jellycat? How do I get my Jellycat soft and clean again?

I recommend cleaning your Jellycat in the washing machine. This is much easier and quicker than washing them by hand. You'll need to be more careful though. Put the Jellycat in on a 20 minute and 30 degree (celsius) cycle on a low spin. Use a gentle liquid laundry detergent! For extra safety, put them in a delicate garments bag (small zippered bag made from mesh or netting that water and soap can still get through), as this will protect them from getting damaged by the spinning of the washing machine. You can also put them in a pillow case instead. Make sure you brush them right after they get out of the washer with a slicker brush (wiry dog brush) and then again after drying them with a hairdryer. Make sure to brush them in between the drying with the hairdryer. You may have to also let your Jellycat air-dry for a long time, depending on the size and fur type. Just make sure to completely brush the Jellycat when it's all dry again. It should now be perfectly clean and almost as soft as new!

If you just want to get some dust off or your Jellycat is too big for the washing machine you can use a damp cloth to surface-clean your Jellycat! The really big Jellycats will need to be hand-washed.

How do I find a specific animal on your blog?

If there is a specific kind of animal you are looking for on my blog, you can simply use the search bar! All of my posts are tagged with the animals that are in them!

How do I find masterposts on your blog?

You can type “all … currently available” or “all dogs", "all Fuddlewuddles" etc. into the search bar! If you cannot find what you are looking for or would like me to make a specific masterpost you can write to me and I'll happily make one!

How do I find Jellycats of a certain color on your blog?

You can type the color that you are looking for into the search bar, as I tag all of my posts with the color of the Jellycats that are in them! For example "blue"!

What was your first Jellycat?

My first Jellycat was Leonardo Lion. I got him in May 2019 and then created this blog. In the meantime, I also created an Instagram of the same name for my personal collection and the Jellycats I come across!

What is your favorite Jellycat?

My favorite Jellycat is Fuddlewuddle Dragon!

What is your favorite Amuseables Jellycat?

My favorite Amuseables Jellycats are all of the cakes! They make great stim toys as well. Other than that, I like the Amuseables Sports Jellycats, especially the American Football and the Soccer Ball.

What is the biggest Jellycat?

The biggest Jellycat size is called "Gigantic" though those are only available for a select number of designs such as Snow Dragon and Bartholomew Bear, produced in limited quantity and very expensive. They cannot be bought directly from the Jellycat website but their biggest retailers have them for sale. The biggest Jellycat size commonly available is called "Giant". A lot of the classic Bashfuls come in that size. They are 94cm high.

Can you give me a Jellycat Size Guide?

You can find specific dimensions of each Jellycat on the product page under “product details”. It’s always height, width and length in that order. You can also find the “sitting height” there. Importantly, ears and tails are never part of the measurement. The big dragons are the exception, where Jellycat measures up to the point where their tail starts curling. Below are some helpful size guide photos:

What does it mean if a Jellycat is retired? Do they ever come back?

Jellycat needs to make room for new designs each year, so every year a certain number of Jellycats need to get retired. They sometimes come back as a re-release if enough people want it, Jellycat really does listen to their customer base on this.

If a Jellycat is "Out Of Stock", does that mean it is retired?

No. If a Jellycat is out of stock, you have the option to click on "Notify Me When Available" and you'll get an email once it comes back into stock. For a few designs, usually seasonal designs or limited special releases, this option may not be available. For others, it will simply say "Retired". Jellycat still has not and might never bring back their "Retired Jellycat" section.

Where can I find retired Jellycats?

Tips for finding retired Jellycats:

  1. Check your local shops! They might have one still sitting around. A lot of retailers only got their Jellycat orders from way back last year (due to supply chain issues during the pandemic) and so we see a lot of Jellycats that are already technically retired pop up in shops!
  2. Check online shops! Sometimes going beyond the first page of search results can help you find the Jellycat you're looking for as most small businesses only come up later in the search.
  3. Check out the Jellycat communities on Instagram and Reddit! There are lots of people on Instagram that love and collect Jellycats and sometimes sell them. You can also post that you are looking for a Jellycat on the subreddit jellycatplush! It's full of helpful people and they might find a link for you.
  4. Check out second-hand platforms such as Ebay!

Sometimes Jellycats that were already retired come back into stock on the official Jellycat website. Usually it's less than 10 and you have to be quick to snatch them up or they will be gone. It's always useful to keep an eye on the site but this does not happen often and one should not get their hopes up.

When do new Jellycats come out?

They used to come out only twice a year, once in January (main collection) and once in June/July (mid season collection). This has changed and new Jellycats are being released in smaller batches throughout the year! The seasonal collections (Winter/Christmas and Spring/Easter) will still be released as usual.

You can find the newest releases and Jellycats coming soon on the official website!

Where does the name Jellycat come from?

The name Jellycat was dreamt up by a child who loved jellies and cats and giggled at the thought of the two together. The silliness of the name was a great reflection of the design and so it stuck!

Are Jellycats safe for babies? Which Jellycat should I get for my baby?

All Jellycats are generally suitable from birth. Though there are Jellycats especially made for babies as well as various baby items such as classic soft toys for baby, soothers, blankets, activity toys etc. as part of the Baby Jellycat line. I can also recommend the Fuddlewuddles for babies.

Can I request a Jellycat post?

Absolutely, just send me a message!

What about your own Jellycats?

I rarely post about my own Jellycats on this blog. You can see more of them and of the Jellycats I come across over on my Instagram of the same name!

Who am I?

I am Victor, a 27 year old severely autistic boy from Germany. Jellycats are my main special interest besides animals/zoology. I have had this blog since 31st of May 2019 and I post daily Jellycats and all other things Jellycat. My birthday is on February 9th!

Do you want to support me?

Due to my level 2 autism I cannot work, but you can buy me a coffee at ko-fi.com/victorjellycat , reach out to me on this blog (kind words are always appreciated) , or you can get Jellycats directly from me on my Ebay! (ebay.de/usr/victorjellycat)

I get my images either directly from Jellycat or they are my own photos/edits. Otherwise, I will put the source in the post. Please do not repost my own photos without credit!

Do you know the actual date of the next jellycat drop? I'm just seeing "soon" and "March" but even that's only on reddit so I'm not sure if it's true? The website just says coming soon

Avatar

This depends more and more on the individual Jellycat, so I cannot give you an exact date. However, almost all the Jellycats listed on the "coming soon" part of the website right now are set to be released in April. (with the exception of Bashful Kitten, who was set to be released in March)

The Spring/Summer Collection 2025 as it's called is divided into 3 major drops, 1 in January-February, 2 in March and 3 in April.

That's pretty much all the information I can give you right now. I have actually reached out to Jellycat myself asking about one particular Jellycat (the Huge Size Bashful Luxe Puppy) and haven't gotten a response.

Everything is chaotic and I'm no longer sure what this company is doing right now to be honest, they have all these grand ideas but their execution and even the customer care is falling behind again...

hi victor! i hope you’re doing well!

first off, i love your blog very much and it brings me such joy to see your posts :)

second, i was wondering if you knew anything about dickensian bunny/winsetta bunny? i believe they’re both very discontinued but they are my favourite jellycats by far, despite not actually owning them! i think it’s interesting how winsetta bunny has a “name” whilst dickensian bunny has an “adjective”, and they’re basically just different colour variations of each other. do you know which bunny came first?

thanks again for all the cosy jellycat content 🖤

You have got it a bit mixed up, I understand the confusion.

In Summer/Fall 2020 (back when Jellycat released new designs only twice a year) Winsetta Bunny and Winsetta Bear were released:

A year later, in Summer/Fall 2021, Jellycat essentially updated those designs and released Dickensian Bunny and Dickensian Bear, giving them a more colorful outfit, but they are very similar indeed:

I personally much prefer the Winsettas because of their more neutral colors and overall design differences. In any case, yes, all of these Jellycats have long been retired and are unfortunately hard to find now because none of them stuck around for longer than a year.

If any of you find one of these still sitting in a shop... Lucky ducky!

Have you ever trimmed your stuffies fur? Sometimes I get the urge when it covers my stuffies eyes and I can’t brush it away, but it makes me too nervous!

I have done this for most of my Jellycats, yes! Some simply don't need it. But I prefer being able to see their eyes and other facial details without excess fur around them, it makes a huge difference.

Speaking as someone with terrible fine motor skills, you really need not be nervous. The most important thing is to go slowly and trim carefully.

I use very fine, super sharp nail scissors, but small sewing scissors work, too! I can't recommend any other kinds of scissors.

Your goal is to cut away any excess fur covering the eyes, but generally less is more because when it goes wrong you end up seeing the seam so be very careful!

I usually start by covering the eyes with the fur to see with just how much excess I'm dealing with. Then cutting away a small amount to start with and after every cut, I blow the fur out of the eyes to see what it looks like and what still needs to be cut. Once you are more comfortable with the scissors, you can cut off more/bigger pieces of fur, but it’s good to start small and slow. I usually cut around the eyes in a circle, not just cutting into one direction.

It’s also very helpful to have a comb or brush handy and combing the fur back over the eyes while you're doing this, it gives you an idea of how much excess there is and helps you cut it evenly.

Finally, this isn’t rocket science, some might need a lot of trimming, some might need none, just do it very carefully. Even I have gotten really good at it, so to anyone with this same question, I'm willing to bet if you just try it on one of your Jellycats, you'll be delighted by the result. For me it's become part of having Jellycats, to give them a bit of a trim, same as giving them baths, it's all part of taking care of the stuffie.

That said, everyone's tastes are different and I completely understand that some people want to leave the fur as it is. Do what feels right but don't shy away from trimming the fur just because you're afraid of damaging them!
