Hiya, just wanted to say I absolutely love your art, you're honestly my favourite artist! I do have your artwork tattood on my leg but I have been too shy to reach out and share it with yourself🫣
Hello!
That’s awesome! Thank you very much for your kind words! Please don’t worry about it! You don’t have to share anything with me at all - no pressure. I am honoured you would consider my art for something like that!
Thanks again for sharing <3
Do you have a shading tutorial? (It’s okay if you don’t, but I’m curious to how you render)
Hello Nonny! I don’t have any shading specific tutorials I’m afraid. There are a few bits and bobs littered across this blog regarding process (I think most are tagged as ‘asks’ or ‘replies’). I have contributed some written step by step process pieces to a few 3d total publications over the years but they are kind of more focused around creative decision making and choices over granular, technical stuff. I’ll link them below in case you’re interested in checking them out. They’re filled with good stuff from all kinds of different artists!
Thanks for the ask!
Hi Jodie! I wanted to ask you something about your way of work: what kind of device you use to draw? It's a pen tablet with a screen or without? What kind of device would you suggest?
And another curiosity: do you use some tablet or iPad to draw, or you work only on Photoshop on PC?
Hello!
Thanks for the ask! Predominately, I use a Wacom intuos tablet on PC. I paint in PS but I am looking to phase Adobe out of my workflow. I’ve been trying to get into painting on the iPad more and more but I can’t lie, it’s still a pretty clunky experience for me. I used to use a cintiq, I wanted one for a very long time but when I finally got my grubby mitts on one, I was actually really disappointed by it. Whilst I quite enjoyed drawing directly onto a screen, after less than 18 months, the screen began suffering with dead pixels in areas that saw heavy use. I ended going back to the screen-less kind and haven’t looked back. That was a few years ago now so that’s worth keeping in mind. As to which is better, I think that’s probably down to personal preference and budget. Each has pros and cons but you don’t need an insanely expensive one to make good art. I don’t have any experience with tablet brands outside of Wacom either so if any lovely folks reading this have recommendations or guidance for @dracaenaarborea then stick em under the post!
Good journey!
The gobs you paint kind of look like they could be Adar's long lost elf-turned-uruk brothers, which is really cool 🥀🖤
Hey nonn,
Thank you! When Adar first appeared on screens I had people saying that to me! He does look like he could have rolled out of one of my sketchbooks. I love painting them and I kind of want to give him and a whole gang of 'em a good old fleshing out in written form one day!
Thought I'd share this here! In 2018 (gulp) I painted what would be the first of many iterations of this Gob! He remains a dear favourite of mine and when Mindwork said they wanted to realise him as a 75m miniature - I was so bloody chuffed! 3d artist Juan Novelletto really did him such a justice, I am so delighted with how he turned out! Cannot wait to have him scowling at me on my desk!
May I kindly request (if you have the time ofc) an Adar painting in his elven form to honor his passing (RIP 😭😭😭)
Hey non!
Firstly, thank you so much for the ask! As much as I knew it was on the cards for Adar this season, it's still a bit of a grimmer. I don't take requests but rest assured, there will definitely be more Adar art from me! I am pretty stacked with work at the moment but when my time frees up - it belongs to the Lord Father.
As to whether it's in fair form? Maybe? Honestly, for me, not only is he WAY hotter as an Uruk, it's who he is. I never really had a hankering to see him as he was before.
So, Here's to the hottest creature in all of Middle Earth 🍷
Every time I see an Adar painting from you, it's an absolute delight, you have such a beautiful painterly/atmospheric style and capture his likeness perfectly
Thank you! it's too easy to spend hours looking at him honestly! I also love your paintings of him by the way <3 Gotta say, feeling like this season there are few more people chained at this table with us haha!
