An animatic tribute project I've had the visuals for kicking around in my head for months, and set a goal to finish by March 9th! Gravity Falls has been such an inspiration for me in how I approach both consuming and creating stories, and the phenomenal "Not What He Seems" episode really cemented itself in my psyche especially when it first aired. Taking from the tradition of anime EDs that correspond to the current story arc, I envisioned this as a GF equivalent for the first half of season two, where Dipper's suspicion against his Grunkle Stan intensifies and parallels are established between the two sets of twins (sorry if this spoils Ford's existence for you, but you did have a decade!)
Can never thank @shmalexsmirsch @gravi-teamfalls enough (I go into more specific shoutouts in the end card but I don't know if they have Tumblr handles).
Song is "Uso" by Sid, as used in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, another amazing coming of age story with sibling bonds as a major theme.

One of my first jobs when I joined the team on Gravity falls was to experiment with some color keys for the season premiere of season 2. Iโm happy to say most of it made it all the way through to the final cut. Some changes were made down the line, especially through out the party scenes to help simplify the overall scheme but every change made for a stronger episode. Took a break and fucked around with ink yesterday
This is what I feel like trying to come up for air these days lol
Anyway yeah so this is ink wash (ink + brush + sometimes water) on animation paper....it's a little wonky because I animated it straight ahead in like 2 hours as opposed to in betweening and also fun fact I started trying to take ballet again and incorporated like one move in here. I wanted to make a longer sequence but I also low key wanted to show it at an open screen night I go to so I called it here and ALSO ALSO ADDITIONAL FUN FACT after effects royally fucked the order of the frames when I dragged and dropped and lined them up but narratively I thought this order was more depressing so I kept it lol
Also here is a shot of the pile of frames now in the middle of my floor

been doing a LOT of analog note-taking / journaling / planning lately (new years' resolution fulfilled! yes!), and I've slowly but surely started writing mostly in cursive again.
that said, I'm old (almost 35, ew) so I have questions.
if you want to RB this and put you age / locale / whatever else you think is relevant in the tags, that'd be very cool

Did a few shots with paint colors I mixed to match some existing ones I have....this is regular acrylic paint mixed with some special medium to get it to flow better. Problem is I just can't afford to get the real cel paint I like to use for this whole project, so the last couple scenes I gotta use alternatives. They kinda suck to work with, but I think they look alright (also ignore the smudges I will remove them in post lol, I'm not above small cheating)
