— min yoongi only wants the throne if it means he could guarantee the safety of the most important person in his life. but what is he to do when his belated coronation no longer serves his purpose?
— note: the mini-chapter, as promised. chapter 10 will come as soon as i’ve finalized the ending of this fic. hope you enjoy. / warnings: mentions of death, yoongi-centric mini-chapter, no general jeon appearance unfortunately, but i believe it’s still a worthy chapter to read.
Dusk threatens to bite into what remains of daylight, and Yoongi knows he must make haste. He’s anticipating your arrival—the person who’s taken into your own hands to ensure his plans are delayed, whether you were aware of it or not.
The corner of his lips turns into an unknowing grin. It’s a surprise Pyo was eager to take it upon himself to do the task; granted, Yoongi did bestow him the choice between death by guillotine or one final assignment for him. Of course, the man had been more than willing to take the southern princess hostage, but he liked to think the mercenary did it out of guilt. He can only hope.
“Your Majesty, you mustn’t leave. Your guests will be arriving soon,” the eunuch chases Yoongi, despite knowing his effort will end in vain. Once he’s made up his mind, Yoongi sees to it that he fulfills whatever he needs to do. And right now, that would be to pay his mother a visit.
“I have time,” he says firmly, searching for his black outdoor robe. The evening weather nips the skin of those that are unprepared, and he has a feeling that night is going to be particularly cold. “They won’t arrive until nightfall, I’m sure of it. Besides, it’s not going to take long.”
“I said it won’t take long,” he says sternly and with finality, tightening the excess ribbon of his outer robes into a knot.
“Understood, Your Grace,” the eunuch bows dejectedly, knowing he’s about to receive an earful from the queen mother herself. Yoongi did not care much for the woman’s opinion, let alone her thinly veiled threats. He is still the next in line for the throne, therefore his power currently precedes hers. Still, she has the uncanny ability to sway the minds of the ministers whose job is to provide him with advice. Therefore, there is a very fine line he has to traverse to present a sense of normalcy within the monarchy, no matter the pretence.
