the stalag as a metaphor for the closet. gale likes it in there. sure its a prison and he can try to escape any time and he refuses because hes comfortable in there. he doesn’t have to feel anything in there, he has a perfect life waiting for him when hes in there. hes also miserable in there. bucky begging him to leave. but he gets letters from marge in there. he says he cant break out of the stalag/closet cus hes going home to marge but then when things get really bad he says he’ll leave with john. john is the only one who can get him out. john literally does break him out at the end. when he leaves the stalag he opens his footlocker and sees the picture of his best girl but puts it down in favor of the $2 his army buddy/the man he loves gave him and puts that in this pocket because something has changed about him. somethings different about him, he’s accepted something about himself. outside of the stalag.

For those who know John pretty well but not Millie (fellow officers like Crank and Benny maybe Buck and Bucky?) Johns crush on Millie is somewhat known. It’s not until Stalag Luft III (and Millie arriving at the camp) that they all realise that Millie likes him too.

I think something like this, if not this, has to be true, because of this bit from Interlude #3:
“Sergeant!” A familiar voice suddenly calling her name—well, her rank, technically—broke her from her thoughts. Out of the back-lit glare of the club door emerged Lieutenant Brady, approaching her with quick strides. “Are you alright? Hambone said you were looking peaky.”
Nothing about that final sentence made sense, not a single word, and Millie could have sworn that they were both speaking English. She knew who Lieutenant Hamilton was because of his gold teeth. But why or how the heck did he know who she was? And why would he care enough to tell anyone that she looked a little ill, especially Brady?
It had to have been telling to the other officers that knew Brady well that suddenly, after a certain point in training, he always gravitates toward this one particular woman (Millie). They talk a lot; he brings her drinks, specific ones; they dance; he walks her safely out, if she would otherwise be alone. It's telling, and yeah, I think somebody on the observant side has to realize Brady's a bit sweet on Biddick's engineer.
Hambone and Hoerr, especially, would be high up on that list of people likely to notice, 'cause they're on his crew. Crosby--maybe??? Blakely or one of his boys, possibly, since Brady's crew and Blakely's crew shared a hut at Thorpe Abbotts. Crank or Murphy, very possibly, especially since Millie would also dance with them, so they take notice of her more. Benny and Buck, probably less likely since they were in a separate squadron. Bucky--it would depend on whether in TV!Canon, we think Bucky and Brady were friends/friends-ish before Regensburg or whether that came about only after Curt went down.

With his right hand hooked around the back of Bucky’s neck, he draws Bucky into another kiss and leans back against the kitchen counter. The edge of it digs into his back but he doesn’t care, as long as Bucky presses hot and hard against his front, thigh to thigh. As if he noticed, Bucky curls both of his arms around Gale's waist until they cushion him from that pain. Melting, shuddering, Gale surrenders himself to the need the gesture pulls from his core. He can tell that his pheromones are going haywire. Bucky's too, heavy with a desire that Gale's nose now recognizes, it’s sweet and familiar, it’s his alpha's, his. He nips at Bucky’s lips because he knows he can’t bite his neck. He and Bucky are both sweating, flushed from the heat rising trapped between their bodies. Gale pushes his hand into that warm space, wiggling it between the tight press of their stomachs to find the hem of Bucky's dress shirt and untuck it to get at the skin below. When he lays his palm on the trail of hair on Bucky’s belly, Bucky hums into the kiss and rocks his hips against Gale's.

I absolutely do, thank you for asking.
It's always a close call between Ken and Crank, but tbh if I'm being honest with myself, it's Crank every time. Sometimes I love him more than the Bucks, tbh.
I will never get over how he is the one who isn't afraid to tackle someone as mercurial as John Egan head on. With language as blunt and a spade and not a lick of appeasing meekness around him. He dives right in to pull him back from the guards on the march, too.
I also love how he's all that, and also so soft spoken ("Bye, Marge") and creative (the wooden plane!), and he has clear love and affection for his friends (when the missing plane comes back! His wee scrunchy smile omg).
I would have loved to see him do more in the show, and honestly need to dip into the actor's (Matt Gavan?) filmography because I felt he gave such a fucking great performance on so little material.

Man I am really loving me some CleganMarge right now. What's your fave idea for how Marge, Gale and Bucky get together? Canon or AU.
I'm inexplicably fond of the idea of Gale being the most clueless of the three of them when it comes to romance. Marge is definitely the first to realize that they are all into each other. In canon universe, I think they need a big catalyst to get over all the emotional obstacles in the way of their relationship. Perhaps one of the boys breaking down due to PTSD and needing extra comfort. In an AU, I can imagine it being a casual, sexual thing first and only later becoming more serious.

- reciprocation of a bid for connection
- interaction with your community
- confirmation that they're not the only one interested in their story
Please don't consider comments, or especially kudos, purely transactional or purely a form of feedback. Comments and kudos are a way to show authors in your community that you're glad they're there.
Authors aren't "entitled" to kudos or comments, but readers aren't "entitled" to fic, either.
Fanfiction is a community, and when an author repeatedly reaches out to their community for connection only to receive silence in return it is very discouraging and can result in the author withdrawing from the community altogether.
