something about the way louella and therefore lou lou look like katniss to haymitch. something about haymitch calling lou lou in her death “a pigtailed kid he’s known all his life” and then going on to admit he’s known katniss all her life and he noticed her because of her two little braids, like louella. something about all of that makes this passage feel like it’s meant to parallel his later feelings about katniss, his second sweetheart after louella, and how he’d do anything to spare her from the pain she has to go through.

Haymitch often referred to himself as a rascal during his games, but the actual rascal was by and large, Peeta “because she came here with me/if it weren’t for the baby” Mellark. And I think Haymitch really appreciated that and loved that about Peeta.

so anyways katniss definitely is the one who sang the old therebefore at burdock’s funeral and she will again be the one who sings it at haymitch’s one day.

I was about to say, Katniss just starts singing to the flowers one day while gardening… Haymitch and Peeta are over in their own yards when they hear “ 🎶 you’re headed for heaven, sweet old hereafter 🎶”

I was about to write: I love the fact that Katniss‘ first reaction to Haymitch‘s absolutely traumatising story is „You need some goose eggs. Goose eggs will help.“

And then I realised… She‘s mimicking Peeta. Peeta comes back to 12 and the first thing he does is plant primroses. And somehow… that helped her. So she‘s doing the same thing for Haymitch.

so I said in my tags that Haymitch needs to give Peeta a gift to complete the circle but SINCE THEN I am suing @katnissmellarkkk for reminding me that the circle of gift giving IS complete because Katniss and Haymitch gave Peeta what he lost in the fire (and maybe never truly had before then) … a loving family (in each other, and then, of course, Katniss gives him even more family but) 😭

so “everlark” literally means “always songbird”

Just thinking about how Haymitch told Katniss she could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve Peeta and how it’s total projection because he sees himself in Katniss and was in love with someone so charming and artistic with strong morals like Peeta and blames himself for her death 🙃

when ballad came out, i remember a lot of people being upset that coryo swam in katniss’ lake.

i hope we all can now take comfort in the fact that haymitch and burdock also swam in it together. butt ass naked.

They were the fire that burned the capitol but they couldn’t stop it from killing their own families as well.
