Was chatting with some friends about Caleb's moment where he gives MC the cold medicine and she over sleeps.
A lot of people seem to think he drugged her while others argue he literally just gave her cold medicine because she was sick.
However, I think focusing on the medicine and its effects is the wrong way to look at this scene and not what the writer wants to convey. That's why they left it ambiguous.
In my interpretation, their point anyway you slice it he's overprotective and wants to keep MC away from danger.
If he just gave her cold medicine, he, being someone from her childhood, would know how she reacts to it and would know it would make her oversleep, or if he did lace it he did with the motivation to keep her away from danger and give her body a chance to rest like he knew she wouldn't allow her body to do (MC would have left even with a fever to go do what she wanted)
No matter which one you ascribe to Caleb's motivation is always protecting MC, even from herself.
Of course, as you read on, you see that not only does MC match his freak in this but also in the desire to protect and she also helps him find his footing with her again.
One of the beautiful things about these LIs is that NONE of them are perfect and they all start out with some sort of rocky or dubious relationship with the MC. Then overtime, the mutual respect grows, changes are made, characters develop and they realize their error and work to make up for it.
It makes the characters so much more interesting & the stories so compelling! The biggest sin in my mind a character can make is to be boring so the fact that the writers for these LIs make them so nuisanced and complex is truly a gift.
