The soft glow of your bedside lamp casts long shadows on the walls as you sit cross-legged on your bed, completely absorbed in the pages of your book. Outside the world is quiet, just the faint hum of cars in the distance and the occasional chirp of crickets. It’s one of those rare nights where everything feels peaceful, like nothing could disturb the bubble you’ve created for yourself.

Then comes the knock.

You jump, nearly dropping your book as the sound shatters the silence. It isn’t from your door. No, this knock comes from the window. Your heart races as you turn your head, half-expecting to see some creepy figure staring back at you. Instead, you see Jake.

You scramble to the window, pushing it open with a face of disbelief and giddy excitement. “Jake? What the hell are you doing?” you whisper-shout, though your grin is impossible to hide.

“Thought I’d drop by,” he says, his voice muffled slightly by the red and blue mask. Even upside down, you can tell he’s smirking.

Your feet gently swayed back and forth as you sat on the bathroom countertop of your shared apartment, a wide smile lighting up your face. Sunghoon leaned in closer, his hands planted firmly on either side of you. His expression mirrored your joy as you carefully clipped his fluffy hair back, your fingers brushing against his warm skin. Even after two years together, the butterflies you gave each other never faded, their flutter as strong as the day it all began.

You giggled softly, leaning in to press your lips against his soft skin. You left gentle pecks on his cheek, then his nose, and finally found his plump lips, lingering there with a warmth that spoke volumes.

He looked down at you with a teasing grin. "Aren't we supposed to be doing face masks right now?"

"We have to kiss before we put them on! Otherwise, we'll just ruin them," you replied with a playful pout.

"Well then, I guess we’d better get it all out now, huh?" he said with a smirk before cradling your face in his hands and pulling you into an intimate kiss.

Fights were a common occurrence at your school. Fortunately, you had never witnessed one yourself. Your friends would relay the gory details. It would always start with two students bickering aggressively until one of them finally throws a punch. From there, it turned into an all-out war, with students crowding and pushing each other to capture videos of the chaos. It would only end when a teacher finally stepped in, prompting everyone to scatter, not wanting to get in trouble.

Walking out by the side of the school, the sounds of students yelling and loud grunts caught your attention. Students crowded around each other to form a circle, cameras held high in the air trying to capture the scene. You had definitely missed phase one, and you sure weren’t sticking around for the rest. But as you turned to walk away, your heart stopped at the sound of a familiar voice coming from the direction of the circle.

Your boyfriend had never been much of a fighter. Though he sometimes came across as cold, you knew him as sweet and gentle, someone who avoided conflict whenever he could. The sight of him now, standing in the center of the chaos, fists clenched, made you immediately worry. What could have pushed him to this point? Your stomach twisted as you debated whether to step in or call for help. The crowd roared as the tension between the two boys escalated, but all you could focus on was the look in his eyes, one you’d never seen before. His face was littered with small cuts, and his lip was swollen, likely from a hard punch. Determined, you began pushing your way through the crowd, ignoring the protests and shoves from students more interested in capturing the fight on their phones than stopping it.

"Hee, come on," you laughed softly.

You pushed him away gently, standing up as he let out a dramatic sigh, crossing his arms with a pout. "Fine, just leave me here, I guess," he grumbled once more, turning his face away.

You grinned, stepping closer and tilting his chin up with your hand. "Don't be a baby," you teased, leaning down to place a soft kiss on his cheek. He stayed still, still pretending to be mad, but you could see the corner of his lips twitching.
