God ok SORRY I'm still on my bullshit
yes on some level we were watching a tragedy and on some level WoT is a tragedy but it also very much isn't. Not a lot of people die in WoT. Not a lot of romantic pairings die!
Like sorry that it didn't seem wildly out of reach for Moiraine to end up with Siuan considering book Moiraine literally ends up retiring with Thom, who pulls her out of Ghenjei, very dashingly and romantically, even when we thought all hope was lost. And they suffer brutally for it, Moiraine losing some of her power, Mat losing an eye, it's not all fluffy, but it means something.
Even book Siuan, as awful as that romance can be, does get to have that connection with Gareth, she literally bonds him, and they die together, again very tragically but they go together at least. Not Siuan's body on the Hall floor.
Rand finishes the series in a polycule with three women. Perrin and Faile survive the series. Nynaeve and Lan survive the series. Mat and Tuon survive the series. Domon and Egeanin survive. Galad gets his arm cut off but still survives with Berelain. Pevara and Androl. Morgase and Tallanvor for chrissakes. Birgitte is about to be reborn and she knows Gaidal already has. Hell, Juilin and Amathera?? Bain Gaul Chiad??? Melaine Bael Dorindha?? Loial Erith????? The only one not of this pattern is Egwene/Gawyn and uhhhh we don't talk about that one.
there’s a big difference between “i’m sad because a character i was emotionally invested in was killed off” and “this character’s death served no purpose, was used for shock value, and is the product of bad writing and i’m upset about that”
No, but imagine if Siuan survived and Moiraine died, and Siuan not letting the post-stilling depression take her because dammit, she made a promise to Moiraine and now that she's gone, you can be damn sure she will fullfil it. And since she would no longer be the Amyrlin Seat, she would train the new Amyrlin, who understands their cause and will also be the best Amyrlin the Tower has ever seen, and then, near the end of the show, maybe season 7, she looks at Egwene being amazing and Rand being epiphanied and thinks she made her love proud, she thinks 'We did it, my love', and then BAM! That stupid boy from Two Rivers who blew the Horn suddenly comes to her and says 'wanna go on an adventure to save your girlfriend from the foxes'
i always click the "track package" button as soon as i get the email. "oh boy i wonder where my package is!" warehouse.
gonna start a rumor that it’s actually okay to be excited about stuff on the internet
Aren't you being a little revisionist in pretending that Siuan's arc of being a servant and spank receptacle is better than her show arc?
Okay, I know most of you haven't read the books (including those of you who pretend you have), so let me clear this up for you:
The infamous spanking incident is one unconfirmed incident that happens off-screen and Siuan punches the shit out of the woman who brings up the rumour on-screen.
Again it's a OFFSCREEN scene in shitty taste in a book written in 2007 by a straight man, that is only ever implied and rumoured on-screen.
Even Siuan's stilling and torture happened off-screen in the books, (we only get her barebones memory of it) because Robert Jordan (for all his flaws, and he had many flaws) did not believe in torturing women on-screen, he did not believe in torture porn, he was a good enough writer that he did not have to torture women on screen to tell a good story and a proper narrative.
You know what happened on-screen, though?
On-screen, in the year of our lord 2025, the Wheel of Time show tortured a Black woman on screen and then showed her decapitated body on-screen for shock value. In a show written in 2024, aired in 2025, and produced by one queer man and one woman.
A show reveling in the violent deaths of women, especially Black women, in the year of our lord 2025 is exponentially worse than an OFFSCREEN spanking in a book written in 2007. I can't believe you people are coming into my inbox arguing with me about this. Get. A. Life.
all these arguments about the new harry potter casting but all i can think is that every person involved in the series has willingly signed up to work with such an outspoken transphobe
reblogging again in light of the uk ruling that trans women are not ‘real’ women. jkr has been the most high profile supporter of the campaigners who took this case to court. the money she earns from the harry potter franchise goes directly to harming trans rights
Lil tribute to the Moggy/ Nynaeve / Elayne scene in episode 6
4 hrs with the right person feels like 3 minutes
I’m sorry but I feel like it’s revisionist or at least not at all my experience to describe Suian’s arc after the coup in the books as some kind of powerful narrative of overcoming adversity.
I hated Suian’s post-coup book storyline because it read to me like a never ending humiliation conga designed to show why a powerful woman needed to be humbled and controlled by a man.
I am absolutely fine with not sitting through that and giving her story more weight and stakes. Especially given how bs her death did end up being in the books anyway.
Or I mean we could just not have Gareth Bryne spank her that could be an option too
