I didn't have a Tumblr phase as a teen so I'll do it now

Dysphoria is stupid. "I need fat boobs for mental health" sounds like a gooner meme but it's literally how it works. I got big knockers and suddenly I didn't want to kill myself anymore. Simple as

She needs big bazonkers to live.

Nothing as a kid was more magical than the original PMD’s friend areas

In terms of gameplay and story, Explorers was miles ahead of Rescue Team. Removing Friend Areas in favor of a simple list of names however was a sin.

I spent hours trying to get a full "pokedex" in Rescue Teams because I could visit and hang out with my friends. I didn't bother in Explorers because like, it's just names on a list, what's the point...

If someone knows how to mod PMD I beg of you please make a romhack of Explorers of Sky where literally the only change is Friend Areas are back, I crave it, I long for it, I will help however I can

btw you guys ever think about Shedinja? i didn't know this before i raised one but Shedinja is created (separated??) from Nincada/Ninjask with the same moveset, same personality... i took it to have its friendship evaluated and the woman in Verdanturf confirmed: my Shedinja knows me. it loves me. though seemingly just created, it has memories of me, and maybe even memories of being a Nincada.

and yet, Nincada's evolved form is standing right there next to Shedinja. Ninjask is the completed form, the imago, with that exact same love, those exact same memories. until that moment of evolution, the two were one Pokémon.

i can't stop wondering. what must that be like? what must it feel like, being the ghost of a living being? finding yourself empty, outside your biological body, but your body is still there and the one inhabiting it is still you? and what does Ninjask feel, seeing eyes peering out from the shell of its old form, and then finding that those eyes are its own?

Terastalization, now Z-A with a new battle system and apparently no abilities... Why does Game Freak hate Shedinja so much?

Release my child they did nothing wrong

from @official-dad-blog The problem, I would argue, is that Shedinja is a game designer's nightmare. It as a gimmick is so Pokémon-battle specific that it can't exist in its original form in any context that tweaks battles even slightly.

Heck Shedinja can't even exist in a lot of Pokemon battles period! We can't give it to any wild trainer or Gym Leader, what if the kids didn't prep a super effective move against it and get stuck? And on the flip side, adding Shedinja to the game also means you risk letting players breeze past story-important battles that are supposed to be challenging unless you Shedinja-proof them.

In Mystery Dungeon I could practically hear the devs groan at having to figure out how to rework it

All that to say I highly doubt Shedinja will be in any game that tries new battle mechanics unless they absolutely must, because like. Why bother honestly

The head designer of Magic: the Gathering has a good definition of games:

"A game is a thing with a goal (or goals), restrictions, agency, and a lack of real-world relevance."

He's gone on to further define what each of those points means (for example lack of real-world relevance means "there aren't life altering consequences to winning or losing") but it's a pretty good definition in my opinion even without further explanation.

This definition excludes soccer. People riot and go to jail about it constantly which I would qualify as life altering

Being bad at sports ABSOLUTELY impacted my life off the field back in middle school

But that's the metagame, not the game. The impact on your life isn't caused by the rules of soccer itself. That's what the quote means by "lack of world relevance": the rules/goals of game of soccer itself stopped mattering, even if the social perception of being "good at sports" didn't
