I would greatly appreciate your feedback and thoughts as it is something quite different from anything I usually write (it’s definitely been a kick in the ass to write) it’ll also really help me stay motivated to continue writing it. thank you for all the hype and excitement you showed for this fic before it was even released cause like hello?? that’s crazy to me😭 thanks for always showing my stories love and support🫶🏻 I’ve taken inspiration from all the zombie movies and videogames I’ve ever seen and played over the years (thanks dad). I should also mention, I had a very thorough plot for this planned out and it kinda went to shit in the process of writing so we’re kind of going off vibes only and 20% of the plot I had originally planned so yeah, bare with me🤪 I also want to say, updates on this will most likely be slow, but I will try my best to get them out as fast I can for you🙏 now that that’s over, I hope you enjoy this series as much as I am enjoying writing it!! this chapter is just the very beginning <33

It’s a full moon. Jeongguk didn’t notice that beforehand, but it’ll really seem like he planned it if this goes the way he’s hoping it will. Honestly, he didn’t even check the weather. This could have ended up very differently if there had been rain today.

Beside him, you sit in the sand with your toes buried and your knees bent up. Areum is inside the house with her grandparents, probably sound asleep. Jeongguk lies beside you, staring up at the stars and wondering if there are enough up there to assign one to each thing he feels grateful for right now so that he can count his blessings in the sky.

His jacket is wrapped around your shoulders and Jeongguk has spent the last ten minutes hoping and praying that you don’t stick your hands in the pockets before he sorts out what exactly he wants to say. The sand is cold against his back and the waves bring with them a cool breeze that makes goosebumps prickle on his legs.

“Y/n?”

“Hmm?”

“Are you happy?” he wonders.

“Yeah. Why? Are you cold? Do you wanna go in?” you ask, slipping your hand out of the sleeve of his jacket and reaching for his.

“No, I mean like, are you happy? With me? With Areum?”

“Of course I am,” you say, fear rising up from the pit of your stomach. Why is he asking that? Has he finally realized that you can’t be everything he needs? Have your flaws become too much for him to handle? Honestly, you thought you’d get at least a year out of him. It’s only been ten months since you made it official.

Jeongguk sits up when he sees your expression, fear and hesitation, and immediately forgets what he had planned as he stuffs his hand in the pocket nearest him and pulls out a small blue box.

“Do you want this?” he asks, holding it out, palm open.

“What is it?” you ask, fear still bubbling for a different reason.

“It’s a ring. A nice one. Big, fat, oval cut diamond in the middle. Little sparkly ones on the band. It’s your size. I made sure. But if you don’t want it, I can put it back in that pocket and we can pretend I never took it out and keep things how they are. I’m happy.”

“Jeongguk?” you stare at him, tears so abundant that your vision blurs and you can’t even see how nervous he looks.

“Marry me. Please. Marry me.”

When you do nothing but cry, he opens the box.

“It’s really pretty. I legitimately agonized over it. I almost got a square.”

“I’m glad it’s not a square,” you choke out, reaching for it.

He laughs.

“There was more I wanted to say. I had other stuff planned but, I hope that I’ve made you feel all those things. I hope you already know how much I love you, how much you’ve helped me grow and live and how I want to keep growing with you for the rest of forever. I hope,” he says, sniffling. “I hope you already know that you’re my lifeline. You’re the one who gets me through everything. You’re my sun. You’re my caffeine. You’re my pain relief. You’re the one I crave when I’m lonely, and when I’m happy too. You’re my beautiful, funny, kind, interesting, wonderful girlfriend. I want you to be my wife.”

Jeongguk takes the box back while you laugh with tears streaming freely down your cheeks. Emotions are high, so high that you’re laughing and sobbing and shaking all at once, unsure if you’ve ever been so elated.

“Say you’ll be mine?” he asks, slipping the ring from its place and reaching for your hand.

“I will be yours,” you tell him, and he slides the ring down your finger. It’s a perfect fit, but before he can even comment on it, you’re shoving him back to the ground and pressing your lips to his.

Your kiss escalates so quickly it’s almost laughable, and when you start fumbling for the button on Jeongguk’s shorts, he rolls you under him instead.

“We can’t fuck on the beach,” he whines, shaking out his jacket and slipping it under your ass before he pushes your sundress up. He clearly doesn’t mean it at all, it’s just something he thinks he’s supposed to say.

“You’re right we can’t,” you agree, wiggling out of your panties and wrapping your legs around his waist.

Turns out you can fuck on the beach.

And you can get married in the exact same spot. <3
