Just my random thoughts and pictures.

The affected voters — those whose paperwork was mishandled and whose voter files lacked their SSN and driver's license — have until FIRDAY, APRIL 18th to contact their local board of elections and attempt to cure their ballot. If you voted in North Carolina last November, you can check whether your vote has been challenged at "The Griffin List" website: link.

talking about Rosie The Riveter, fun fact: while the We Can Do It picture has become the most-well known depiction of her in modern times, it wasn’t really a famous image when it was made–in fact, it wasn’t even intended to be her

the most famous depiction of Rosie The Riveter during WWII was probably Norman Rockwell’s painting

note what she’s resting her foot on

i fully support anti-fascist/anti-nazi butch lesbian rosie the riveter

how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:

-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of

-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."

-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.

And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.

Fellow students please stop using AI, go back to promising not to kill the school nerd if they do all your homework or something.

Part of what Cory Booker is doing with this filibuster is reading things into the record. Sometimes when people do a filibuster, they just say shit. I think one time Ted Cruz read "Green Eggs and Ham" into the record. Another dude sang the Mets theme song or whatever the shit.

If you actually have substantial things to say, you don't have to do that. I mean, not for nothing, but what we're watching here is a man doing the job he was elected to do. Our public officials work for us, the people. It's nice to see some of them take that obligation seriously.

Booker is standing there with a binder that he's not even halfway through reading. *Over 42k people are watching it just on YouTube. I haven't watched the news yet today, but I've got the live feed of this open on my computer.

I hope he has a catheter and/or a diaper on. He said he'd continue as long as he's physically able. Probably he's been on a liquid diet for a day or so. I would plan ahead for this.

If Republicans are going to refuse to do the work, if they're going to refuse to take up serious business and would like instead to fuck shit up... Well, we've got a choice to make, don't we? I don't know what the long-term solution looks like. But we can and should talk about it. We can and should take steps to make sure the public record reflects reality to the extent possible.

Really, if we want to come back from this, we have to talk about it. And we know that the official records during this time especially will be, shall we say, less than reliable. So there is value in speaking the truth into the public record.

I'm not in love with the Democratic party as an institution. But this can also be energizing and inspiring for people. He's setting an example, and hopefully his example will shame others into growing a backbone. Hopefully.

I really don't have any hope for Schumer. But Booker, along with folks like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett, are doing what they can do, and I respect it.

This is definitely a coordinated thing, though. Finally, Dems are showing that they have some strategic ability. Booker is the main speaker, but other Dems are asking questions, while allowing him to retain the floor. In this way, it's clear that they're working together, and several people in the room have jobs to do in support of Booker's efforts. They're expanding on his points and doing a call-and-response thing, which is an effective tactic in more ways than one, and it allows him to rest his voice for a few moments at a time.

So I'm not becoming a cheerleader for anybody yet. But what he's doing is important, even if it doesn't change anything directly.

Miss me with bipartisanship talk though. I really can't see that as a viable option at this point. Unless something radical changes, I wouldn't trust that at all. So anytime somebody like Schumer talks about Republicans coming to the table, I can't be bothered to listen. They have repeatedly shown us that they have no intention of doing that and that they further do not care about right and wrong at all. Or if they do, they think their actions are right, and I'm not sure which is worse, but in both cases, I would not call them trustworthy. Their priority is being in lockstep with Trump and the prescribed agenda of the party, not the American people.

At least Booker is trying to do something. Shit.

* When I started typing this, the number of viewers was just over 42k. Now it's over 45k and climbing.

He also had watchers on TikTok and CSPAN.

When he passed the record over 100,000 people were watching just on his YouTube stream.

Pouring one out for Thinkgeek.com today. I loved their yearly parade of April Fool’s product releases. Even as they became not so subtle market research after thousands of geeks cried out and demanded the Tauntaun sleeping bag be made into a real product.

Still wish they had made the brain bleach April Fool’s prank product into a real thing. Maybe some sort of energy drink?

*This poll was submitted to us and we simply posted it so people could vote and discuss their opinions on the matter. If the author has left off a mandatory warning and failed to include Author chooses not to warn tag, I gonna just stop reading. I am reporting that fic and muting that author. If I’m feeling generous I might leave a comment about the missing warning tag and let them fix it before reporting it.

Respectfully, no matter how much missing tags annoy the shit out of me, I think you’re an ass the second you go and report someone’s hard work - that you get to read for free - just because you’re annoyed tags are missing. Like yes, I dislike it when authors left out tags on purpose and I come across stuff that’s triggering to me while reading. But the thing is that I also chose to read it in the first place, and more importantly I got to read it for free. That is someone’s hard work, someone’s dedication. Someone’s source of comfort / hobby that they do out of love. Just stop reading and mute or block the author and move on.

No matter how much missing tags annoy and make me angry, I’ll never stoop so low as to report a fic. Ever.

As a reader and a writer, please just tag your stuff properly and also always remember that fanfics aren’t one of those books you buy with your money. Fanfic writers are just fans who are passionate about their favorite characters and they want to create something about the characters they love.

Purposefully leaving out tags that could be triggering to some people is not cool. But neither is reporting a fic that the author could have spent months working on

I’m not reporting them for not including a kink. I’m reporting them for not obeying the Terms of Service on the website they are using to host their work for free. There are literally only four tags that are required if they happen in a fic. They are Major Character Death, Graphic Depictions of Violence/Gore, Rape/Non-con, and Underage Sex. Ao3 even gives the option of using Author Chooses not to use Archive Warnings which means it could have any, all, or none of the mandatory warnings and is counted as a warning in and of itself. Again this is in the Terms of Service that everyone who gets an account at Ao3 agrees to before they get to post anything.

Considering that all the mods do to fics that aren’t following the Terms of Service is hide them until the author fixes the tags. They don’t delete it. They don’t ban the author. They just tell the author to do what they should have done to begin with.

If you can’t be bothered to read and follow the ToS of this site that lets you post and share your work for free. A site that has a team of volunteers that are working(for free) to maintain and run it. You are a disrespectful, self-centered asshole who doesn’t deserve to use the site at all.

reblog to give your headache to elon musk instead

I’d just like to point out the growth in this post has mostly coincided with elon’s public spiral downward and I’d like to think we’re all a small part of that

bro can’t think because he’s just got a rager of a migraine 24/7

I really feel like the word "gooner" is so common now just cause some people really wanted to call someone a degenerate without sounding as much like a nazi doing so

just wanted to share the National Down Syndrome Society’s message for this year’s World Down Syndrome Day (21st March) 💛💙

Powerful message that lovingly includes multiple disabilities, united. I love this.

I'm sure tumblr would never, but hey. No sense tempting fate.

Social media is not private, emails are not private, internet searches are not private, your text messages are not private.

"I use a VPN!" Your ISP can see when you initially connect to a VPN. The VPN company will comply with a subpoena.

"My socials don't have my real name!" What about the email to register that social? What about your wifi provider? They provide the IP address from which you're frequently logging in. Don't they have your information?

Your cell carrier will comply with a subpoena.

You ISP will comply with a subpoena.

So will Google, Apple, Yahoo, Meta, Tumblr, Twitter, you name it. None of them will fight the government on behalf of a random person they don't care about.

This is why fighting for online privacy laws, real actual privacy laws, is so important. It's why using services with end-to-end encryption is so important. It's why if you don't want any chance of law enforcement to know about something, you cannot post about it online in any way.

The messages we recieved growing up about being very careful about what you post online wasn't fear mongering. They just picked a different villain.

FFS... us internet olds have been screaming this from the rooftops for years... ANYTHING ONLINE IS PUBLIC AND FORVEVER. USE YOUR BRAIN!!!
