a/n: hi, so this is my first adler fic haha and I know I said songfic but brain don't work, so pls don't hate me for how shit it is lol, I really wanted to write one, I hope you enjoy it
Flashes of various memories flickered through your mind, going too fast to see each one clearly, Adler had forced himself to get Park to give you an intracerebral injection to calm your mind and allow him to help you "Are you sure?" Park eyed him with an unsure look, Russell glanced at you and back to Park, he slowly nodded.
"This is for the good of the world, Bell" Park leaned toward you, large needle in hand, you could see it coming toward you but you couldn't react to it "Right through the eye? That's cold, Park" Sims shook his head "If we want answers quickly, this is the way to do it" you felt the needle pierce into your eye, a small portion of your sight went dark.
"She's ready, Adler" Park leaned away from your sweating body, Adler sighed sadly, he gingerly grabbed your hand, not caring that anyone saw him being so emotional with you "We had a job to do, Bell" your mind quieted, awaiting Russell's commands.
"Your helicopter crashed in the jungle, you were the only survivor..'Nam soldiers were sweeping the field for survivors" your mind filled with the vision of an upside down war tattered field, you slowly rolled onto your stomach, pushing the dead body of a fellow soldier off of you.
"You jumped down from the helicopter, bow and pistol with suppressor ready to take the enemies out quietly" Adler's voice echoed throughout the field, you aimed and started shooting them where they stood.
You were left alone in the silent field, the soft howl of wind breezing passed and around you "You made your way through the jungle" you started to walk through a clearing. "You came to a fork in the road, Bell, I want you to take the path on your left, not the right" you seen a small t.v in the centre of the fork in some temple-like doorway "Ignore that, Bell" his voice came softly, you could feel a gentle pressure enveloping your left hand as you went on.
You approached a bridge "You could see a red metal door on the other side of the bridge" your vision clouded for a moment, once you could see, there was a red door that felt so familiar and foreign at the same time. Your mind said no, turn around "Bell, please go through the door" Adler's voice tried to coax you forward but your body seemed to listen better to your mind "Bell, no, cross the bridge" you saw a zipline on your right, that led down into a small canyon.
You slid down the rope, your feet colliding with the ground "Damn it, Bell" Adler sighed, almost frustrated "Please stop fighting me, the faster we get through this, the faster I can pull you out" another red door appeared in front of you. "Please go through" Adler begged, seeming to sense your conflict "I..I can't" you muttered to him, your voice echoed softly "Don't do it for him, do it for the good of the world" Park said in a firm tone "If I could, I'd be there right beside you".
"You can do it, my bluebell" he whispered to you, you eyed the door with caution, it seemed to beckon you ominously, your hand reached out to it slowly. "That's it, Bell" your hand was wrapped around the cool metal, a wavered sigh passed your lips as you slowly pulled it open, the door opened up into a neatly kept hallway, you could see a room at the end of the hall, someone slowly pacing around in it.
You cautiously walked toward the room, your mind was screaming to stop but you didn't listen, you were standing in the doorway, the figure had its back turned to you, it looked to be a man "I just want you to know that this little thing that happened between you and me.." The figure turned to face you, it was Adler dressed in some covert ops outfit, his face smudged in black camo paint.
"What..? What's happening?" You muttered in shock as you backed into the now closed door, Adler walked around the table "It was always for the greater good, heroes have to make sacrifices.." Adler got closer to you, his aura was threatening, and for the first time in your life- you were terrified of him.
"That's why when I ask you for one more, I hope you understand..". Adler was right in front of you, your chests almost touching, you could smell his cigarette tainted breath, an arm barricaded you between him and the door, the other was on your hip.
"I loved you, Bell..actually loved you, I would move mountains for you, bring the sky to the earth for you.." His voice was low, the hand that was on your hip gently caressed across your cheek, his finger trailed along your jaw, his hand came back to cup your chin.
"I hope you understand that it was never personal" Adler grunted, a white hot surge of pain filled your body, you gasped in shock, your fearful eyes traveled down to your stomach where a knife protruded from your body, the blade becoming coated in blood- your blood, your breathing trembled at the sight of it.
The Adler that stared at you with a sickening smirk on his face was not your Adler, at least you didn't think it was. Tears fell from your eyes, Adler chuckled at your reaction, you yelped in pain as he removed the blade from your body, your knees colliding with the concrete floor "This is for the good of the world, Bell".
"Bell?!" Your eyes shot open with a gasp, your body throwing itself up into a sitting position, your skin was covered in sweat, your heart was racing and your eyes read fear to anyone that merely glanced at you "Bell! Are you okay?" Russell leaned in front of you so all you were looking at was him.
"Bell?" Russell grabbed your chin gently, pulling your thousand yard gaze to him "I'm right here" the fear seemed to slowly melt away from you "You're out, you're out and safe" you let out a shaky breath finally, as your sight focused on Russell "There you go, there's my girl" Russell pulled you into a firm hug "What was that..?" Your voice was barely above a whisper in the crook of his neck.
"I don't know, but I promise you..that was not real, I would never do that to you" he whispered in your ear, tears threatened to fall down your face, the vision felt all too real, you could feel the blood soaking your shirt and sticking to your skin. "I'm sorry we didn't get Perseus's location.." he gave you a gentle squeeze, pulling away to look into your eyes "That's alright, Bell, we can try again..when you're ready" he helped you off the bed, looping your arm around his as he helped you out of the small room.
"Adler, a word" Park came up to you both about 30 minutes later, you were sitting in front of the mission board, eating takeout that Sims had ordered a little while ago "You're alright?" Russell eyed you, waiting for your reply, you smiled softly "I'm good" he nodded in response, standing to follow Park into the room you were all previously in.
"We need to get a move on" Park stated as soon as she closed the door behind them, Adler sighed as his head dropped down in frustration "Bell is ready, she's been, her mental will is weak around you because she knows you won't push her, she could have learned the location of Perseus..I have no idea what that glitch was, but it shouldn't have happened" Park sighed, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Maybe it was a..glimpse into the future?" Adler's eyes shot to her, he scoffed with visible annoyance in his features "What the hell are you saying?! That Bell saw her death? That Bell is going to be at the mercy of me?" He spat in a venomous tone "It's possible, rare but possible" Park said calmly, watching Adler's reaction "Calm down, christ, it was more than likely just a bad trip, it happens" Park grumbled at the older man.
Adler's gaze traveled to you, still sitting down on the table in front of the board, your meal was long gone though and you looked to be deep in thought "You wouldn't hurt her, Adler..that surprisingly wouldn't be like you" Adler felt Park's hand gently grasp his shoulder, as she left the room, leaving Adler alone to his own thoughts.
"I hope you're right, Park" he muttered to no one, eyes still on Bell.
