red j bird would NOT just call anyone a heck of a bird (AKA a hell of a man). unless maybe hes being sarcastic. but here??? the way he follows up the sentence?? very much reads that he means it genuinely. for WHATEVER reason red likes this guy and thinks hes pretty great, except for him being a slacker.
AND MIND YOU this book canonically takes place somewhere in the middle of the first movie and red is reluctant to admit that chuck and bomb are even his friends. and he just casually admits some random bg character is a hell of a man? red has/had a little crush on him. i think. to me.
