Request for advice from nice tumblr folk

I really want to try to be a proper artist. That is, actually manage to earn enough money from art for it to be my job. I’m not deluded enough to believe it could be my only job. I’m not talented enough for that. Some non-art more reliable job is going to be needed, but I really want to try and be able to sell my art enough to not need more than a part-time.

Anyway! Point is, I want to ask if anyone has thoughts on ways to go about this. I have no intention of charging a lot for commissions because I think art should be accessible for all.

All I can think of is selling prints and paintings, but the conundrum is where and how to advertise such things, especially when my speciality is whump and most marketing sites have restrictions on being able to sell art depicting violence. And are there places anyone knows about where you can apply to do illustration work for non-children’s books?

Does anyone on this beloved hell site (and one of the few friendly places left on the Internet) have any ideas or thoughts or suggestions? Literally any thoughts would be so welcome.

This might only make sense if you've played Shenmue II and/or watched the Shenmue anime. If not, Ryo (guy hitting a tree in the top panel) learns to hit trees and make leaves fall. For the sake of autumn vibes, decided to draw him doing that and Wong (an orphan he meets in Hong Kong who helps him out in his big quest thing) enjoying the spectacle.

I have not a great deal to offer in terms of elaboration, but this is what I have in my brain re this AU that prompted the drawing 😅

Posting from another blog because I'm about to delete it since I need to make a blog for my paintings and can't keep track of three blogs, and I've ended up posting MCU art on this blog instead of that one anyway
