It's nice to see you active (somewhat?) again! I wanted to send in an ask a while ago to ask how you're doing but ended up not doing it out of fear you may be busy and I didn't want to bother you! I've been busy myself anyway.

It's your former BG3 anon by the way! :D

my friend! 🫶 how have you been? it's lovely to hear from you again

sorry for not continuing our chat, but, yeah, i took a break from tumblr. i just couldn't deal with moral purity discourse with fascists knocking at my damn door, if you know what i mean. our presidential elections got postponed until may and, suffice to say, it's not looking good, with trump & putin backing the pro-russian candidate and other useful idiots 🙄

so i'm trying to not read the news as much as possible, spending my days in a calm-before-the-storm mentality. i've finished act ii of bg3 around christmas time. i trusted shadowheart and she spared the nightsong, now she's dyed her hair white and we're besties forever. :)) but i didn't manage to advance very much into act iii, i've only just reached rivington and took a break from the game because my former supervisor asked me to write an article for a journal he's associated with, so i settled on investigating the incompatibility of the weberian state in non-european territories, with the drc as a case study. not thee most complicated methodology but i did what i could in a month lol ☠️

so i spend my january alternating that with various parties as many of my friends have their birthdays in this period, incl my bf, so it was a kind of alcohol-infused pseudo-cerebral time (very dark academia of me 😂). we made olive oil cake on valentine's day and then took a few days off to go to a barbecue (yes, outside) during the first snow of this entire winter (it was cold af but we persevered!)

i really want to get back into the rhythm of reading so i pushed through and read The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein, which i noted down as a recommendation from our own mylestoyne here on tumblr (quite liked it!) and the very popular Capitalist Realism, which i hated. reviews are up on my storygraph acct in my bio if anyone is interested. since the start of the new year, i've also watched nosferatu (incredible!! loved it sm), babygirl (really rather meh), the jackal with eddie redmayne (decently suspenseful) and i have one episode left of black doves with keira knightley and ben wishaw (not bad! all the twinks are turning into snipers these days)

Since Laenor was still alive, Rhaenyra was technically still married to him, which would nullify her marriage to Daemon. Does this mean that their children with Daemon are considered bastards?

Avatar

yea. that's the problem the show created by trying to make daemyra as uninvolved as possible in laenor's death. they're not legally married and their children are bastards.

even if laenor is dead now, they're STILL not legally married because they only had one ceremony and that ceremony is null and void as a result of laenor's not!dead status

Every time I have a hold on book Aemond (no emotional control, a little hubristic, a lot of anger issues but loyal to family, trying to win the war in order to make amends for B&C) respectively someone makes me doubt it. So is Aemond as moronic in the book as certain fans claim or does the narrative require his plans to fail?

if you take any character and force them to follow plot beats, regardless of their overall logic in the story, they're not going to end up looking good. they'll either come across as inconsistent, illogical or downright dumb

there's a high chance of that happening if you start the story from the ending and work your way backwards

Hi! I would like to hear more about your theory that Alys intended to make Aemond, Daemon, Vhagar and Caraxes into human sacrifices for the old gods? May I ask why you think it didn’t “work” with Aemond?

Avatar

hmmm... i don't remember that being my theory, sorry! but i wouldn't be opposed to it

Hope you’re staying safe and doing as well as you can!!! ❤️

thank you, friend. 🙏 we're a pretty irreverent and knee-slapper kind of people (romanian memes are first class) so we're mostly coping with that. but we are not psychologically equipped in any way to deal with proper political sabotage & destabilisation. i'm just glad that the manipulated masses who voted for the fascists are inherently lazy and cowardly & that no one is out there in the streets protesting for these morons. for once in my life i am grateful for this nation's fundamental political lethargy

it looks like every new day comes with another plot twist over here 😵‍💫 the authorities apparently apprehended a mercenary group headed for the capital armed to the teeth with guns and various knives... it's hard to stop considering the possibility of terrorist attacks on the subway or various landmarks now, you know, just as a thought exercise 🧍

sooooo the constitutional court cancelled the entire presidential elections that were supposed to take place this sunday. idek how to feel. apprehensive? happy? angry it had to get to this point? in any case, it's something.

don't ever take democracy for granted, my little lemon trees. this is why i'm never going to encourage anyone to not vote, no matter how much you may dislike the candidates. we may have just averted a russian coup in our country. it's a very sobering and frightening thought.

this is me airing out my thoughts regarding daemon and rhaenyra bc there could have been potential for actually make their relationship interesting. so, obviously they are supposed to be the ultimate targ love story (even though everything is the exact opposite) and that's how most people swallow it but the writers could have used s2 to show that it was just them acting. rhaenyra and daemon could never have a healthy relationship (in any way in my opinion), rhaenyra yelling about how she can't trust him seemed like a good thing for me until ep8. we could have had them both struggling to go back to their behaviour in s1ep1, this dreamy lovey dovey thing. daemon struggling with a older rhaenyra who knows what a somewhat healthy relationship should look like (i don't think harwin was 100% healthy but it still stands). now, rhaenyra is in a abusive marriage and has kids that threaten her older ones, it would have been great to see that internal conflict. how her life now is in a way a twisted one of her former best friend and the women around her. using daemon x rhaenyra to show how despite being heir and her uncle apparently doing anything for her she is just a woman in westeros. how even if on the outside she portrays herself as this perfect girlboss revolutionary, she will always be a pawn trapped by the man she spent years fantasizing about. i don't like daemon but his theme of never being able to change and always reverting back to his old selfish ways could have been amazing in s2 if it was even a thought. tb has no drama (any hint of it is destroyed to save rhaenyra) but daemyra could have had some at least and it would have been enough (since nettles and daemon leaving rhaenyra won't be a thing). there a multiple reasons for them to have such a messed up dynamic but they aren't allowed. now daemon and rhaenyra are in the exact same spot with eachother, perfect, loyal (rhaenyra cheater but i doubt anything will happen from that, the writers will probs have daemon think it's how or something), pure and badass.

also rhaenyra mentioned how daemon left herr during her Stillbirth but ig that's totally cool for everyone involved.

I'll be honest, anon - I think one of the main problems is that the writers probably think they've done a stellar job portraying the >conflict< between Daemyra and don't really understand the criticism.

Because at the end I think the INTENTION was to show that Rhaenyra isn't completely trusting of Daemon after his stunts, so they're not 100% back to how they were - she has a line akin to "don't ever betray me again" and looks a little apprehensive but is putting on a show for the Harrenhal audience. So, their reasoning was probably that it was enough to portray appropriate "punishment" - a loss of trust.

But this "consequence" seems ridiculous in context, because the greens fall apart much more dramatically and are treated like unfeeling monsters over less egregious shit. So it ends up looking cowardly that they let Daemon get away with the proverbial slap on the wrist.

I haven't done a lot of stuff in the game myself with my Dark Urge bard lately as real life got in the way…

I hear you. I haven’t progressed myself much lately, but the game isn’t going anywhere and, in any case, it’s good to take a break once in a while and do other stuff.

As of last night, I am at the Creche and managed to get Lae’zel out of the zaith'isk. I have to admit I save scummed to get past the guards and to be able to deface Vlaakith’s portrait (because it’s too funny an opportunity to pass on), as the checks were quite difficult and I wanted to keep my 1 inspiration roll for the zaith'isk. Then I allowed her to get in the chair and I got hit with an insane 30 Persuasion check. Fr. Of course I failed the first check, but I rolled again with my sole inspiration point and, to my shock, I got a perfect 20 and with my other bonuses it was enough to hit 30. Phew.

I searched online after my first try because the checks were really difficult to pass and I was sort of underwhelmed to find out that most people chose to get inside the machine themselves, as the checks become easier this way. But for RPG reasons, I really insisted on it being Lae’zel, because she really wanted to and it’s something Mirta would not impose on. But the debuffs she receives if you don’t get her out of the machine are so cruel, I couldn’t go on knowing I’d lobotomized my poor girl. She’s my ride or die – if my companions were in a burning building, I’d save HER. MY CHILD.

Part 2 below!

So, about that mod I linked previously, I went to the comments section and turns out it’s a little buggy for now, which is a shame, since I think it would be really fun to hear more companion comments as you’re wandering around. I spend a lot of time picking stuff up so it would be a cool way to interact with all the objects.

Also, you were right about there not really being many dresses around. I am mourning my fantasy of being a Faerun fashionista. 😪 I downloaded a bunch of clothing mods, but I don’t really like the ones that function in the armour slots. I want to use in-game armours, I’m just interested in cooler camp clothes. Alas. Maybe I’ll give the makeup mods a go, but I wish they wouldn’t act like replacers and just add more makeup options. Messing with Unique Tav seems too complicated atm.
