Making Shauna a genuinely abusive girlfriend to Melissa is a bold choice and not one I was confident the show would commit to. It's very very obvious that she has a whole series of scripts and delusions and persecution complexes and revenge fantasies about Jackie treating her this way/her treating Jackie this way.

#its genuinely a revenge fantasy#like shauna never got to actually forgive jackie.#like i know some people think that jackie was a saint and like i truly do think that had shauna communicated her issues#jackie would have listened#but its like. shauna WAS living in her shadow. jackie WAS controlling#and shauna should have said something! she should have spoke up! but she didnt and she let it fester until things blew up#and they argued and then jackie DIED.#they didnt get the chance to make up or actually talk any of it out#her last memory of jackie is them both saying awful and mean things to each other#so theres this overwhelming guilt and grief for what happened and the fact that it killed jackie#and then theres this anger and resentment that she truly never got to actually deal with#so she lives it out in melissa#she takes on the 'jackie' role or the version of jackie she's created in her head to help deal with her grief#and she's mean and abusive and awful and tells melissa she doesnt matter in a similar but harsher version of what jackie said to her#but melissa isnt shauna. she actually communicates and doesnt bottle that shit up#at least the teen version of melissa - no idea what swanklissa's got going on#and thats why it blows up so much faster and why shauna's so angry because melissa doesnt just LET shauna treat her like shit#and its like. ugh thinking about shauna's face when melissa asks why she can't just be a nice person#like. the shauna that existed in s1 is not the shauna we've come to know#that shauna is buried under so much pain and guilt and grief and all that comes out is ANGER#and she's ashamed of it but she doesnt know any other way to be anymore. all shauna knows how to do anymore is be angry.#god :((((

Great tags, great addition. I think it's key that in addition to Melissa not being Shauna she's also not Jackie; she doesn't just bottle things up, doesn't just take them and stew about it, but ALSO doesn't try to control or structure Shauna's behavior in any active or assertive way. And I think Shauna hates both of those sets of facts.
