Short Introduction:
Hi! Im Ley, Im a 2003 kid, she/they, Im a writer, and curious about a lot of things
Welcome to my brain ♡
If you operate on the tri-king ruling of Argos, it's actually so funny that Sthenelus and Amphilochus, both likely older than Diomedes, went "you take that one" to Diomedes and made him the "king of Argos" for purposes of war councils because there were NOT dealing with every other king there. Sthenelus inherited some of Capaneus' rage issues and he would absolutely lose his cool on the regular. Amphilochus is simply plagued by the horrors and doesn't want to be harassed like Calchas is by the Atreidai.
Diomedes strike me as someone who is terrible with eye contact, he either ovoids it at all cost or intensely staring without blinking based on how much he is interested in that conversation.
(I kinda based the staring part from myself cuz I thought it’ll be pretty funny on Dio. Like Odysseus could be talking about something and Dio just…Stare. some people find it very unnerving but all the people that are close to Dio are very used to it)
saw someone say "i just want a story not a political commentary" about the aeneid and it's like. buddy i have some news about all literature ever
fuck it homebrew boop button. reblog this post to boop the person you reblogged from.

Dont think of Tydeus sibling dynamic dont think about Tydeus' sibling dynamic---
Olenias would've been fixated on his older brother
If his parents and nurses couldn't calm him down, Tydeus could, Tydeus would hold him and distract him until he calmed down
Olenias looked up to Tydeus
Olenias wanted to be just like Tydeus
He tried so hard to make his big brother proud
Tydeus swore to protect his little brother against anything and everything and he tried hard to make him happy and not be as haunted by the ghosts of their past siblings as he was
In the end, it didnt matter
Blade cut through flesh that bled
And the blood on Tydeus' hands would never wash away
The Palladium Heist stabbing is haunting me.....
Si helped me realize I can project my sibling relationships onto the epigoni and Diomedes....oh no....anyways! :)
So what If he loved the kid
And tries his best because the kid loves him so much and tells him that every day
But he struggles to give him more than what the kid asks for and expects
After a long day he'll comfort the kid, look after him, protect him, guide him, joke with him
But it always feels like its work, work he never asked for, work that most days barely gives him any energy to figure out his own issues and it ends up disregulating him
He loves the kid
He wishes he wouldn't have to play parent
.....i considered this for Stheneleus but most of it fits even better to Aegialeus tbh
So Stheneleus later picked it up, but probably also latched onto them because he had no one else, and he took it with more humor
Diomedes/Sthenelus but it's actually unrequited. Diomedes is all in. Sthenelus is not. He'll take care of Diomedes when he asks because why not? It's a fun way to pass the time. But he doesn't want Diomedes. Sthenelus has Deipylus, his own like-minded comrade that he values above all others.
People don't ship DioSthe simply because they don't blorbo Sthenelus enough :/
Give me HCs for him please, I can't figure out his personality and it frustrats me😭 in need for more HCs
ohhh i have so many idk where to even start but i think some important key points about his character are:
> he’s more like his father than he will ever admit. wants to say he hates him but isn’t really sure. I think religious ceremonies and stuff are difficult for him because Capaneus has a legacy for being blasphemous and so he feels excluded in a way
> he’s fiercely devoted to Diomedes (and by extension the Epigoni and also Argos), a trait he got from his mother (he also was quite the mama’s boy but refuses to talk about his parents as much as he can)
> impulsive, hotheaded, often doesn’t think before he speaks, but also capable of being rational if someone talks him down
> good with horses. he is a charioteer after all!
> he cares about his son(s) (depending on what source you’re going by sometimes he only has Cometes, sometimes Cometes and Cylarabes) and there’s some tragedy to be explored in him wanting to break the cycle so they don’t grow up to resent him like he did with his father, but this didn’t happen.
> There isn’t really any information i could find about his wife, so their relationship could be interpreted in many ways, but for me personally—their marriage was mostly political (and probably arranged in some way) but they’ve been good friends since they were young and have remained so throughout. He appreciates her as his wife and more importantly the mother of his son(s), as he lost his mother. though their feelings for each other might not be romantic (but to each their own, you could easily take it in a different direction!)
> his relationships with the other Epigoni!! He’s also very good friends with Euryalus (who I see as kind of an older brother/uncle (?) type figure to both Sthe&Dio though he isn’t actually much older than them i think) they like to wrestle each other, it helps some with Sthe’s temper, though Euryalus almost always wins as he’s very good at wrestling! I can imagine him shoving Sthenelus’ face in the dirt to tease him lol. There’s also Amphilochus (though he’s never mentioned in the Iliad im still inclined to believe he was there) Honestly i think he’s kinda weirded out by him and his weird prophetic visions and crazy family history but Amphilochus doesn’t give a fuck, and probably makes fun of him for shit he knows pisses Sthenelus off. As for the other Epigoni i’m not really sure as most of them are dead/there’s little information about them/can’t actually read the Epigoni since it’s lost but i think he really looked up to Aegialeus and took it pretty rough when he died.
> backing off of that i think it’s interesting to explore how he deals (or doesn’t deal) with grief and loss, as he’s experienced so much loss even well before he grew into an adult. I think he has a tendency to confront most of his feelings head on, but when it comes to grief those emotions are a lot harder for him to process, and he often defaults to anger over sadness (which inevitably comes back to bite him in the ass later)
I could go on and on but these are just a few!! I think if you’re confused or stuck on how his personality is, a good exercise is to think about how he feels about and interacts with others. What does he think about his friends, family etc? How does he respond to different emotions, and which ones are easier/harder for him to deal with? How does he cope or not cope with difficult situations? Reading source texts can help some but sometimes aren’t very specific—in that case you just have to infer from what you know, or worldbuild around him until you figure him out. Everyone interprets sources differently and that’s the beauty of headcanons! the world is your oyster babey
💕✨️ thanks
I think ive read about nearly every source that includes the epigoni 20 times by now 🤧 youre right...his complex feelings around religion def give me some basis to work with, but im ngl, what i struggle with, is answering these questions that you listed in the end xD ill be like "how would he ----?" Answer with "Idk!!! *cry*"
But those are good points 🤔🤔 ill keep thinking about them!! Thank you
