Watch how you talk to and treat other people when you're upset, stressed, or in a bad mood. Other human beings are not your punching bag. If you do say or do something you don't mean to someone who didn't deserve it as a result of being in a bad mood, apologize to them and make it up to them.

It's normal to have a harder time being kind and polite when you're upset, stressed, or in a bad mood. However, that does not in any way, shape, or form justify using another human being as your personal punching bag to take out your bad mood on. That random customer service worker isn't responsible for whatever is stressing you out at work or in your home life, your friend isn't responsible for your uncle being mean to you, ect.

If you are snippy or mean to someone who didn't deserve it as a result of your bad mood, you really need to apologize to them or make it up to them somehow. It feels awful to be used as someone else's punching bag for their bad mood, the least you can do is show some accountability.

Cory Booker has been talking in the senate for over 20 hours now

He’s not filibustering. He’s protesting the current administration.

For those of you from outside the US or those of you who didn’t pay attention in government class, in the US senate there’s really no limit to the amount of time a senator can speak. So sometimes if they don’t want a bill to pass they just. Don’t stop talking. To hopefully get past the deadline to vote on a bill. This is called filibustering.

Senator Cory Booker isn’t doing that. He’s disrupting “the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able”. Just in protest. This doesn’t usually happen.

He’s less than 20 minutes away from breaking the record of the longest speech given on the senate floor

Cory Booker has officially broken Strom Thurmond’s record for longest speech on the senate floor and he’s still going

For those of you wondering what he’s been talking about this whole time, his staff wrote down a bunch of stuff for him to read like stories from people across the political spectrum opposed to what the administration is doing. He’s also been telling personal anecdotes about meeting important civil rights leaders and other democratic senators have been pausing him for “questions” but the questions have been as long as a small speech and have both served the purpose of giving him a second to sit down and updating him on the news that he’s been missing while he’s been talking.

Sophia, the Boston woman from 1875 who haunts a lamp I got at Brimfield: what is a stay at home girlfriend, if you please?

me: well, it's a woman who's financially supported by the man she's dating, and she lives with him and usually keeps house and cooks for him

her: and they're not married?

me: well, no; hence "girlfriend" rather than "wife." I know that may alarm y-

her: oh calm down I know about Kept Women. he has no legal tie to her, though? she has no sort of standing with him in the eyes of the law? only his word that he'll follow through?

me: yes

her: and remind me again- you don't have to be financially dependent on a man anymore, right? there are more than like three careers open to women that will let you support yourself at a decent level now? and society isn't pressuring you 24/7 to get married and stop working outside the home?

me: yes

her: so these women. CHOOSE to be dependent on a man. who could leave them at any moment without legal consequence. because they don't like their jobs. the jobs, while imperfect, that let them live on their own, answerable to no-one

me: yes

her: that had better be some absolutely amazing jewelry they can pawn off if he leaves them, then

me: it's usually not

her: THERE'S NOT EVEN SECURITY JEWELRY?!

me: oh by the way they blame feminism for "having to work"

her:

her: I became fully dependent on my in-laws who hated me, after my husband died two years into our marriage, because I was a 23-year-old orphan with no marketable skills in any avenue besides Running A Household and the only men left unmarried in my social circle were widowers thirty years my senior. I also couldn't establish lines of credit as a widow because the merchants said my husband dying so soon meant that I didn't have stable enough income. and that was entirely legal

me: yeah

her: I'm going to go slam some doors please do not bother me

Stop giving men the ability to ruin your life 2k25

Not the point of this post but I'm endlessly amused that Tumblr has rediscovered ghosts as a cultural metaphor for confronting the horrors of the present through the lens of the past in meme format. The essays I could write-

the thing about being nonbinary is that you really do start to forget that other people have such strict walls around what is and isn’t allowed for genders. i thought we all agreed that we made that up. could you climb out of the cave real quick and feel the sunshine for a minute.

You ever think about the MOVE bombing and then think about the fact that so few US Americans even know that the MOVE bombing like. Happened.

"The United States is dedicated to moving bombs away from people who would use them for nefarious purposes! Google MOVE bombing to learn more!"

jesus christ 😐

this also doesn't come close to telling the whole story.

the Philadelphia police harassed the MOVE organization for over a decade. MOVE began with peaceful protests against conditions at long-term-care facilities and against the city Zoo's mistreatment of animals. in 1972, police classified the group’s use of profanity as riotous and designated them violent threats to public order. the actual reason was their radical abolitionist message.

the Philadelphia police department had a brutal, corrupt, and racist reputation long before MOVE entered the picture. despite that fact, MOVE’s claims of police brutality typically fell on deaf ears, even when they had undeniable proof of mistreatment. the bombing is only one part of the story both because it is the culmination of violence between MOVE and the police and also because it is part of the broader narrative of police brutality in Philadelphia that is still largely played out today.

in 1957, two Black men were beaten by three off duty and allegedly drunk police officers, putting one in the hospital for 19 days. the commissioner at the time testified that all officers were trained in "race relations," which involved things such as having officers brandish shotguns out the window of their patrol vehicles as a show of force in so called "shotgun squads." the three officers were not convicted of any crimes.

in 1960, shots indiscriminately fired by officer Robert Marinelli killed two innocent Black bystanders. Marinelli was charged, tried, and then found not guilty on all charges by an all-white jury.

in 1967, a guy named Frank Rizzo became the police chief. his nickname while working in West Philadelphia as a captain was "The Cisco Kid," which referenced the fictional cowboy who "killed for the love of it or any other reason that came to mind." he referred to "vermin" in Philadelphia as the source of the crime and decline.

shortly after he was appointed, he sicced 300 officers in riot gear on Black students and advisors protesting the Board of Education who were protesting the lack of Black studies and Black teachers. Rizzo ordered the officers to "get their Black asses." 57 protesters were arrested, dozens were beaten, and 15 were hospitalized. Frank Rizzo was elected Mayor of Philadelphia 3 years later and during his bid for re-election in 1975, he said that he would "make Attila the Hun look like a faggot" once he was reelected.

so yeah, not only is the MOVE bombing virtually unheard of by the average person in America (and it's not much better in academia, for that matter), but the story that is often told when people do hear about is that this all happened in a vacuum "due to the actions of a violent Black resistance group." in reality, it was the culmination of over 50 years of brutality against Black people and minorities in Philly.

A quick reminder that if your parent or grandparent has EU citizenship (or had, if they are deceased), and you have the paperwork to prove that you’re related and they are from that country, then you can also get EU citizenship.

Anonymous asked:

Nicholas, do you think US trans people should be looking into emigration, if possible? If you'd like to share, what are your plans?

It's a tough call for me to give blanket advice, because, if you're not marrying a citizen, the reality is that most trans folks lack the job credentials or money to be welcomed by another nation. A lot of us also have some kind of disqualifying disability.

If emigration is something of interest, do the research and be realistic about your prospects. (I roll my eyes at folks who think you can just waltz into Canada, especially now.) If you have the privilege, honestly do it if you can, but most of us are not going to be able to.

And remember that you only have one shot at requesting asylum, so don't waste it on a country that doesn't yet think trans folks are under threat.

Due to Reasons, I don't think emigration is possible for my spouse and I. But I did make it a point to get us to a blue state. Which would be my suggestion for trans Americans, especially those who don't have a good social safety net. I understand why some people stay, and respect and support that, but if you are already untethered in a red state, try to escape it.

All that said, everyone should still be looking at what options there are outside US borders, be it for permanent relocation or just getting a medical procedure. And everyone should have their list of "when do I flee" lines in the sand + plans on what a slow escape vs a fast escape would look like.

I hope to never have to flee my home in the middle of the night, but I do have a Go Bag ready.

It all sounds grim, but this is why community is going to become increasingly important. Especially in-person community. So, get involved more with your local queer and neighborhood orgs so you can be more resilient in the future.

Take care and stay strong. ❤️

I feel compelled to add, as someone moving to Canada as a cis white woman in a straight-passing relationship with spousal sponsorship:

1.Still not cut and dry and easy, in any way, for ME. I just spent most of my evening filling out ever more paperwork. So, yanno.

(I know he literally said this but I feel like it needs yelling, cause oh god, so many people think it's this easy:)

2. DO NOT TRY TO COME HERE AS AN ASYLUM SEEKER JUST BC YOU'RE AFRAID. There are extremely specific, rigid rules, definitions, and situations for seeking asylum in Canada (think, 'I live in a country where it's legal to hunt gays for sport' definitions), and if you don't meet them and still apply, you cannot ever apply for Canadian citizenship again.

I have had to tell SO MANY queer buds that info, plz I'd love to have you here with me but that definitely won't happen if you try seeking asylum right now. Take up welding or AC repair!

I can’t believe I got this far into svsss and didn’t mention that the reveal of a second transmigrator happened when Shen Qingqiu, in order to sprint away from his own grief, looked another man in the face and said “Devil’s Sacrament” and not only was the other guy at the Devil’s Sacrament he was the the Devil himself.

Sometimes I need to step back from being like 500 episodes deep into the one piece anime and really appreciate that all this is because I saw a gif of Mackenyu as Zoro and thought he was hot.

I also find "age" misleading as fuck with these, because what they want is an upload of your licence. They want to tie the porn you watch to your government ID. Which, as things are going, should really concern you even if you don't engage with pornography at all.
