NJ Democrat senator Cory Booker takes the floor in protest of Trump/Musk, "saying that he will keep going “'as long as I am physically able'.”
“I rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able,” Booker said at the outset of his remarks. “I rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our country is in crisis.”
“In just 71 days, the president of the United States has inflicted so much harm on Americans’ safety; financial stability; the core foundations of our democracy. “These are not normal times in America. And they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate.” -source
I am posting this at 2:30am EST. He has been speaking since 7PM EST. This link (at this moment) is to a live stream.
FUCK YEAH, JERSEY!
So very proud of my state at the moment.
Reblogging and adding the livestream link from Senator Booker's YouTube (the other one was glitching) . It is almost 4am. He is still going STRONG. If you are watching and plan to go to sleep, turn the volume down and leave it up so that the "watching" number reflects the involvement of people supporting him.
If he can LITERALLY stand and protest as a single voice, we can keep it playing and symbolically stand with him.
Senator Booker is on Hour 13 and going STRONG
Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about. No business as usual! Slow the Fascists down! He should get some Democrat colleagues to join him so they can periodically cede to each other and spell each other off to keep it up longer!
STILL GOING! If you can open up the livestream to show support.
this woman lives in a completely parallel universe to me like I have no idea what she’s on about with this lmao. my nails are short and unpolished for no other reason than that’s how I wear them.
I finished reading this article and I think I'm Immediately going to become an alcoholic to cope with the amount of damage it did to me
Absolutely baffling article. Author (a self-identified Zillennial) is fixated on the quality of being "chic" and "elusive" (as in a type of woman she calls the "Elusive International Hot Girl" aka the one who is constantly traveling, is (i'm paraphrasing) not interested in forming authentic friendships with the author, and (i'm guessing) probably on instagram constantly).
Author reads like a tryhard who would very much like to be an Elusive International Hot Girl herself but has realized that she does not qualify based on the required the social class or financial privilege, so she's attempting to obsessively hack an understanding of it and gaslight the audience into thinking she knows what she's talking about using a mix of trendy jargon and almost-academic terminology ("covert/overt status" "status hierarchy-political" ) applied in a very weird way that comes out [checks notes] utterly backwards and with the vibes of anxiously fawning to the audience to camouflage any definitive statements she might make.
In essence, she does not realize that the main quality she is lacking in this endeavor is sprezzatura, the presentation of elegant nonchalance. She also does not understand that famous quote about how clever people say a great deal in a very few words, but those of small wit take a long time to say utterly nothing of substance.
To save you the psychic damage: According to the author, truly truly chic Elusive International Hot Girls have bare nails (and drink whole milk). She also claims that "regular polish" (as opposed to gel) ranks at #2 of her hierarchy because of the luxury, leisure time, and money it takes to get a weekly manicure at a salon (or, she says, by summoning the manicurist to your house) -- she has seemingly no awareness of people who paint their own goddamn nails.
that is all you need to know about this article. It is BAFFLING.
reading it anyway, here's the opening paragraph
It's giving "what kind of CAKE you eat defines who you ARE (it's political)" by Marie Antoinette. This is what happens when you might've been intelligent but you instead buy into weird tiktok influencer tradwife "my brain can only think about PINK things teehee" brainrot. She literally describes parents who don't teach their children to be obsessed with societal approval as "borderline nihilistic". Kim, there's people that are dying.
:C
I’m so fucking sick of AI
pirates of the caribbean really introduced an eldritch octopus man who kills indiscriminately and torments the dead as their poster villain and then you watch the movies and it's like, "oh no, actually the worst villain in this series is a small white british man who functions as the herald of capitalism" and that was very very brave of them
I kinda like whatever the hell Morrigan and Alistair have going on. They should fuck once and then be really weird about it for the rest of their lives
like
they're insufferable together I love it
Hey everyone. do Morrigan and Alistair fuck
I assigned a writing prompt a few weeks ago that asked my students to reflect on a time when someone believed in them or when they believed in someone else. One of my students began to panic.
“I have to ask Google the prompt to get some ideas if I can’t just use AI,” she pleaded and then began typing into the search box on her screen, “A time when someone believed in you.”
“It’s about you,” I told her. “You’ve got your life experiences inside of your own mind.” It hadn’t occurred to her — even with my gentle reminder — to look within her own imagination to generate ideas. One of the reasons why I assigned the prompt is because learning to think for herself now, in high school, will help her build confidence and think through more complicated problems as she gets older — even when she’s no longer in a classroom situation.
She’s only in ninth grade, yet she’s already become accustomed to outsourcing her own mind to digital technologies, and it frightens me.
When I teach students how to write, I’m also teaching them how to think. Through fits and starts (a process that can be both frustrating and rewarding), high school English teachers like me help students get to know themselves better when they use language to figure out what they think and how they feel.
. . .
If you believe, as I do, that writing is thinking — and thinking is everything — things aren’t looking too good for our students or for the educators trying to teach them. In addition to teaching high school, I’m also a college instructor, and I see this behavior in my older students as well.

This! This is what scares me the most about AI! Physical exertion is difficult if someone isn't used to it, and it gets easier the more often it's done. When it's done often enough, it becomes a habit. Mental exertion is exactly the same. Thinking is a learned skill just like a sport is, and an entire generation is growing up without that most critical skill.
An unthinking populace is a more easily controlled populace.
There was slap bracelets, then gummy bracelets, but deep down all children yearn for the humble vambrace
