anybody can do whatever they want, but it is, to me, kind of missing the point to invent some distant future where yrliet becomes okay with touching the rogue trader romantically/sexually. because yrliet's romance is ultimately a challenge of romantic assumptions & the nature of intimacy via the insurmountable constant of 'alien-ness'. it's a fantastically bold place to put a player, because for most people they're intentionally being given a scenario where they're going to feel dissatisfied (not only because of normative romantic expectations but also because of modern expectations of the crpg genre), and they need to engage with that dissatisfaction & with yrliet's perspective in order to construct these new romantic frameworks. and by having her accept touch later down the line, it changes the message to the far more banal: 'given enough patience & pursuit, a woman will come around and not only submit to her partner's desires, but take them on as her own'.

okay so I'm having a debate with my flatmates

reminder that if you ever meet a sweet, morally good, chivalrous knight: it's your most sincere obligation to corrupt them. "but my vows," this, "this is against the rules," that. if you haven't completely fucked up their entire code of conduct and destroyed all ability to discern right from wrong without you being the one to tell them by the time you're done with them, then you need to up your game. inside that pretty, rule-following chained dog of a knight is someone yearning to be set free of their self-imposed shackles, and it's your duty to help them get there.

Why else would they allow themselves to be shackled, unless they believed they needed to be controlled, that something inside them was already rotten and dangerous? All you have to do is convince them to hand over the end of their lead.
