Phaela

Fourth in my portrait series is my own girl, Phaela Murphy, tiefling soup twilight cleric and circle of stars druid. DM is @bacoj8.

Flowers

  • Huckleberry (Vaccinium parvifolium) : simple leisure, faith. Phaela's patron god, Thelona, is the god of simple pleasures.
  • Cineraria: always delighted
  • Queen Anne’s lace/Wild carrot (Daucus carota): sanctuary, home
  • Celery (Apium graveolens): Feasting, festivity
  • Stephanotis: desire to travel, friendship. Phaela and her best friend Izen live together in her truck, traveling from town to town in search of work and sights to see.
  • Bloodroot/Sweet slumber (Sanguinaria canadensis): protective love
  • Purple hyacinth (Hyacinthus): Benevolence, rashness, impulsivity, play, grief, please forgive me. Phaela's virtue name is Temerity, which suits her well-meaning but somewhat impulsive need to help others. She is playful and kind, but carries a deep grief as well.
  • Bluebonnet (Lupinus subcarnosus): self sacrifice, survival
  • Meadow cress (Cardamine pratensis): ardor, devotion, enthusiasm. According to folk belief, this flower brings bad luck if brought into the home. It is not included in May Day wreaths and garlands because some believed that wearing it would offend the fae, who would drag you underground into another world. Phaela was separated from her home forever when, in order to ditch a deal with a hag, she trapped herself in the Shadowfell.
  • Night Convolvulus (Convolvulus): night, repose, rebirth, affection, embrace
  • Sunflower (Helianthus): warmth, nourishment, devotion. This flower is redundant, I just wanted it as a treat. Yellow :)
  • Forget me not (Myosotis): Clinging to the past, do not forget me, faithful love, memories. Ough.

Who benefits from the goat being unburnt? Are we missing part of the fun here? On the ground in Gavle is there a crowd of hometown heroes thwarting arsonist assassins left and right?

Catch me fighting the Gavle volunteer army surrounding the goat on my way to commit arson.

At the start I think a lot of locals was upset by the burnings. It was a big expensive decoration for the people that some vandals just burned down for shit and giggles, and tbh at the time a bit asshole move. But over time everyone I know in Gävle look forward to see if anyone manages it. Everyone would be disappointed if it was made easy though. And it is definitely prestige in successfully defending the Goat. My grandmother would cheer for the Goat and Gävle if it survived, and the arsonists if they managed to get away with a burning. (especially if it was in an innovative or fun way) While quite a few think it's a bit harsh punishment to get caught, you can't really remake national laws for just a goat. Burning down other peoples property very much is arson. I think if it was fully consequence free it would loose it's magic. The very fact how hard it is, how illegal it is and you risking jail for it is now a part of it.

My favorite defense team was 2018. Armored knights.

Correct Midwinter Fire Ritual. A+, no notes.

Yancy

Guess whoooooooo forgot to post her art for months and months again it’s me! Here's the second of my floriograph D&D party portraits; Yancy the smoke genasi shadow magic sorcerer belongs to @coffeecakecafe, and our DM is @bacoj8

Flowers

  • American cowslip (Dodecatheon): treasure finding
  • Texas ebony (Ebenopsis ebano): shadow, blackness
  •  Ash-leaved trumpet flower (Campsis radicans): separation. Campsis radicans has an extreme flammability rating, so wise landscapers are careful not to plant it too close to houses. All his life, Yancy has moved from home to home--he has never had a place to belong that has not been destroyed.
  •  Cactus (Cactacae/Opuntia): Love, endurance, warmth, I burn, physical love, you left me
  •  Garden anemone (Anemone): love, being forsaken, estrangement, withered hopes
  •  Hellebore (Hellborus): calumny, scandal
  • Bindweed (convulvulus): Bonds, spontaneity, uncertainty
  •  Lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis): trustworthiness, return to happiness, unconscious sweetness
  •  Tea plant (Camellia sinensis): Young sons and daughters

Izen

Third D&D floriograph is Izen, drider Way of Mercy monk and Undying (I think) warlock belonging to @justabitscrewy! DM is @bacoj8

Flowers

  • Rye: apostasy, condemnation, disgust, mockery
  • Barley: grain of life, false justice. The ancient Greeks sometimes determined guilt through a method of divination called alphitomancy: when someone in a group was suspected of a crime, the members of the group would be fed barley cakes or slices of barley bread. Supposedly, the guilty party would get indigestion, while all others would feel well.
  • Calathea: beginning anew
  • Begonia: Repaying a favor. While begonias most often carry a message of warning, a 17th century botanist named them after a plant collector (Michel Begon) who had done him a favor, lending them the additional meaning of grateful repayment.
  • Heather (Calluna vulgaris): healing from within, the inner self. Purple heather specifically means solitude.
  • Cockscomb Amaranth (Celosia): affection, fashion, partnerships, silliness
  • Bengal fig (Ficus benghalensis): meditation, reflection, self-awareness
  • Elderberry (Sambucus): death, rebirth, transformation, kindness
  • Durian (Durio): Night, misleading appearances. Durian flowers are nocturnal; they close during the day and open at night so they can be pollinated by fruit bats. In some places, durians are banned in public places because of their powerfully unpleasant smell. However, those willing to look past first impressions can enjoy the delicious fruit.

Working on a much larger piece, but decided to isolate a few elements that I’ve really enjoyed!

Every dnd party should be comprised of homies with darker, haunted sides to them — maybe driven by a fear of what they are or maybe what they fear they might become. Maybe even a fear of the twisted version of themselves they've left behind. Whose to say :3c

Characters belonging to: @lorebreaker | @coffeecakecafe | @eaudecrow | me | @couchtaro

the transition from people needing each other to wanting each other is literally one of my greatest weaknesses that shit makes me want to walk into the sea and sit on the ocean floor for a thousand years

like. characters whose entire self worth is based on how useful they can be to others, who think that they're going to be abandoned as soon as they're no longer necessary, being told by someone that they want them to stay and realizing that they have value to people in and of themselves and not just for what they can do for them will never fail to completely unmake me. like on a molecular level.

it's about the moment dependence becomes devotion
