โ€œโ€œโ€ฆThe ambition and enthusiasm imbues every page of the script, which is so beautifully written-even down to the stage directions-and so rich in character, so vivid in detail, so joyful in its comic invention that it is simply breathtaking. And the dialogue, oh the dialogue. As was custom in historical dramas of the day, Whitaker writes speeches that are redolent of Shakespeare without ever sacrificing clarity; a combination of Shakespearean rhythm and poetical devices, but with an entirely modern vocabulary.โ€โ€

Just love this. Itโ€™s so nice to hear some praise for the beautiful serial that is 'The Crusadeโ€™. All these elements are why its one of our top Doctor Who stories of all time. Itโ€™s so breathtaking!

The Web of Fear Episode 1 Screencaps, Part 1

Doctor: Oh, well done, Jamie. You did it! That was a near thing, wasnโ€™t it? Are you all right, Victoria? Victoria: Oh, what happened? Are we safe now? Doctor: Oh yes, I think so. Salamander started the TARDIS without first closing the door. He was sucked out. Jamie: Aye, and I nearly joined him. Doctor: Iโ€™m very glad you didnโ€™t. Heโ€™s not in a very enviable position, you know, at the moment, floating around in time and space. Now then, where shall we go? Jamie: Oh, letโ€™s just get our breath back first before you start tearing off anywhere. Anyway, as you know the TARDIS has a mind of its own. You know you canโ€™t control it. Doctor: Canโ€™t control it? Jamie: No. Doctor: Weโ€™ll see about that. Weโ€™ll see about that. Victoria: Here we go again. Jamie: I wonder where itโ€™ll be this time. Doctor: Yes, I wonder.

DOCTOR: I see. And how would you expect me here and now? EXORSE: The Elders of our city have been plotting the course of your space-time ship for many light years. They estimated your arrival some time ago. DOCTOR: I see. Yes, well, thatโ€™s very clever of them. EDAL: What is this? We understood from our Elders that you did not carry weapons. DOCTOR: Oh yes, theyโ€™re quite right, yes, I never do.

This is really interesting, and the first time the Doctor has ever really been known and tracked, unless you count the Daleks maybe. We love how the late second season/third season started to expand on who the Doctor was, not too much of course but just little things at a time. Great stuff and really interesting to see this other planet.
