Putting aside all my issues with it, I'm really curious of what Asami's role is going to be in seven havens—assuming she has one.
She's Korra's partner and has spent years watching Korra's name and legacy—any by extension the name and legacy of the avatar—be demeaned and vilified. Did she try to defend Korra and uphold her image? Does she help in the search for the new Avatar?
Is she a rich and influential businesswoman and public figure, or was she ostracized and her company bankrupted due to her association with Korra? Does the public know that Korra and Asami were romantically involved, or was that hidden because it was deemed too dangerous for Asami if that knowledge were to become public?
I think it would be very interesting for the new avatar to meet Asami and seek her as a mentor to learn non-bending related fighting techniques. I know she's an earthbender, but if she's hiding her being an Avatar, I think it'd be cool to have her learn how to fight and defend herself in other ways from Asami. The new avatar could have a negative view of Korra that'll be challenged by Asami, who was there and knows firsthand what actually happened.
OR—because I'm assuming this show is going to pull a whole 'everybody hated her but that's just because no one actually know the truth of what happened'—maybe Asami has a more complicated relationship with Korra's memory. Maybe she doesn't know why Korra did what she did but still defends her while acknowledges that what she did left them worse off. Maybe she's angry at Korra for messing up and leaving everyone behind to pick up the pieces.
I know, realistically, the show is maybe going to mention Asami like, once, if ever, but I think exploring Asami's grief and her relationship with the new avatar as two people who are shadowed in Korra's memory in a world that loathes her would be so interesting.
