I just had this YouTube ad that blatantly tells the audience to use their service to make books with their AI and publish them to Amazon. Frankly, I'm appalled. I will name and shame them with a link at the end of this rant, but I need to share why this is so bad.
These models, by their very nature, will not produce anything new on most subjects. They find trends and amalgamate them into an output. They can't produce anything new to the conversation by this nature. As such, that company is only recommending the end user saturate the market with slop.
Screw it. After I record the videos for the week, I'll make my own book. I won't use any models and use methods that an AI can't. I've been working with these models since before the ChatGPT craze, so I know exactly what they can and can't do. I will also make it as long or as short as needed to fit the topic.
I will then use the same publishing methods with Amazon that they're pushing at the lowest price possible that still allows a profit split unfavorable to Amazon (they're part of the problem and free would just mean all ad money and traffic would go to them), thus out-pricing this slop. I will then post a link on both Twitter and Tumblr with a comment thread (Twitter) or a list as part of that post (Tumblr) to explain exactly why the models cannot recreate certain segments in their current state.
I did NOT get my master's in computer science and help build knowledge of these systems just for this blatant misuse of these systems to flood the market. I did NOT work with these models for years just to help slop flood out the actual human creativity in this world.
I'm including hashtags to increase reach to ensure everyone knows how BS this truly is. I will also let you know when my book is all done. Be sure to self-advertise any of your books on sites like these using hashtags like #notAI and #notAIBooks to create a space with a reduced risk of slop pulling to the top.
Oh, and here's the link to the site that started this rant. Don't use them: https://www.publishing.com/
