A while back, there was a period of several months where it seemed every day, I was recommended this comic that went into detail about how trans men who don't commit 100% to a manly man identity, who embrace a shred of femininity, or whose identity is not 100% binary, or generally who don't follow the Andrew Tate school of manhood are destructive to the trans community, and need to be shamed back into the closet.
And I've gotta say, as bad as things are today, I really am glad that that person was eventually enveloped by a swarm of crows that then dispersed, leaving behind only a single eyeball.
shorthands for dumbassery that i have grown to love deeply
- "how dare you say we piss on the poor" in response to someone misinterpreting your post
- "_ isnt gonna fuck you" for suck up behavior
- "woah. should we tell everyone? should we throw a party?" for who the fuck cares
- "and what if the world was made of pudding" for when would this ever matter.
- "and sharks are smooth both ways" for a group of people heatedly arguing with 1 guy who is fucking with them all
- ".. but its about a witch in the alps finding her lost cat" for someone trying to sanitize something to the point of absurdity
this is prime proof that this ENTIRE WEBSITE is autistic because nowhere else would a no tags post that's just an informative list about slang get this much traction.

I know people on tumblr looove stories of underwater cave diving, but I haven't seen anyone talk about nitrogen narcosis aka "raptures of the deep"
basically when you want to get your advanced scuba certification (allowing you to go more than 60 feet deep) you have to undergo a very specific test: your instructor takes you down past the 60+ foot threshold, and she brings a little underwater white board with her.
she writes a very basic math problem on that board. 6 + 15. she shows it to you, and you have to solve it.
if you can solve it, you're good. that is the hardest part of the test.
because here's what happens: there is a subset of people, and we have no real idea why this happens only to them, who lose their minds at depth. they're not dying, they're not running out of oxygen, they just completely lose their sense of identity when deep in the sea.
a woman on a dive my instructor led once vanished during the course of the excursion. they were diving near this dropoff point, beyond which the depth exceeded 60 feet and he'd told them not to go down that way. the instructor made his way over to look for her and found a guy sitting at the edge of the dropoff (an underwater cliff situation) just staring down into the dark. the guy is okay, but he's at the threshold, spacing out, and mentally difficult to reach. they try to communicate, and finally the guy just points down into the dark, knowing he can't go down there, but he saw the woman go.
instructor is deep water certified and he goes down. he shines his light into the dark, down onto the seafloor which is at 90 feet below the surface. he sees the woman, her arms locked to her sides, moving like a fish, swimming furiously in circles in the pitch black.
she is hard to catch but he stops her and checks her remaining oxygen: she is almost out, on account of swimming a marathon for absolutely no reason. he is able to drag her back up, get her to a stable depth to decompress, and bring her to the surface safely.
when their masks are off and he finally asks her what happened, and why was she swimming like that, she says she fully, 100% believed she was a mermaid, had always been a mermaid, and something was hunting her in the dark 👍
We do know why though— under high pressure nitrogen can have an anesthetic effect. It gets you high and impairs your cognition. That’s why it’s called nitrogen narcosis. The reason some people are more affected is because they are less tolerant to it than others, just like some people are less tolerant to, say, alcohol.
nonbinary robots are cool and all but imagine a robot designed to be genderless and it sees a girl and is like “wtf girls are cute im a girl now” and the scientists are like u cant do this thing but she is already out the door
I don't know if this is a thing that other trans people experience, but when I am in a bad dysphoria spiral, it actually really pisses me off when people praise the parts of myself that I hate. Because dysphoria isn't about other people and their approval.
I've never had anyone talk about it with me, so I don't know if this is something we've all gone through, or if I'm still nursing a lot of rage from all the times I was told "You're such a handsome man/you'll be such an ugly girl!"
concept: a pokemon gym leader who is literally an alien who landed on pokemon earth by accident and she is a normal type gym leader. she really loves normal types she thinks they're just wonderful
anyway i have pokemon brainrot rn enjoy
My big problem with the online paleo community(Besides the rampant, fandom-esque toxicity) is that for the longest time, our culture has viewed reptiles as the lowest form of vertebrate life. So when we learn that dinosaurs have the same level of complexity as any other animal group, the conversation is always "Dinosaurs aren't reptiles - which are still, of course, the lowest form of vertebrate life". When it really should be "there's more to reptiles than we've allowed ourselves to believe."
They always say "Dinosaurs are more closely related to birds than to reptiles." What they never mention is that crocodiles are more closely related to birds than to snakes and lizards. It's not that dinosaurs aren't reptiles. It's that birds are. And that's way cooler.
"But we HAVE to tear down modern reptiles!" you might say, "If we don't do everything in our power to distance dinosaurs from archaic depictions of lizards, the public won't be educated about what dinosaurs were actually like!" Yeah, I'm uh, actually a little more concerned about how the public perceives the group of animals that's still alive, seeing as how that perception can have a tangible effect on their wellbeing.
If people don't understand dinosaurs, the dinosaurs don't give a shit. They're dead. It's not gonna get worse for them.
If people continue to perceive modern reptiles as lowly and unworthy of understanding or respect, then we're liable to endanger them or even drive them extinct, the way we do with every creature we don't decide is immediately useful.

Demon's Funny Burger 2: Fishing was my entry into the Newgrounds Sweet Sixteen comic contest, and to my surprise, I was the winning contestant. I worked on this throughout November and up to the week of the December deadline. In the process I learned how to work within a 16 page limit, but it was also an experience in working with different story altogether- mostly, that I don't like it! I have to say I didn't hate working on this completely, but I think I got my fill of it for sure. I would still like to make more entries for this series, but not on a schedule and much shorter.
