Warning: This Blog is Fun-Friendly

This blog is a judgment-free zone that loves and supports all Beetlejuices. If it's stinky and dead and bug-centric and likes to hang out drunk at the race track, it's a friend of mine. I don't care if it's animated, live action, always breaking out into song, or a needy pervert (and it always is a needy pervert), I wanna hug it. Does it have a gothy girl of indeterminate age for a best friend? Great. Does it also have a crush on that girl? Fabulous. The world needs more weirdo creatures and their loner human fixations.

There's room for everybody here. All ships are fine with me, as well as Beetlejuices of all sexual persuasions, gender identities, body sizes, and species. Demons, poltergeists, ghosts, and eldritch tentacled horrors from beyond are all welcome.

Here we're friendly to SFW, NSFW, and just plain bizarre content. So do feel free to pull up a chair, have fun, and RELAX.

Mufasa: The Lion King thoughts (spoilerish)

So Disney + has the Mufasa movie and I've been curious so ya know, what the heck, I gave it a try. And it started off pretty okay. The VA cast is pretty stacked, the animation is cool in that impressive yet creepy Avatar way, and the first several songs are decent. But then LMM's fixation on weird, repeated verbal sounds started popping up, like for instance "IalwayswantedabruthAAAH" being sung about 30 times in one song by four people. Then he gave Kiros (who I woulda SWORN was being voiced by Antonio Banderas if there wasn't so much proof that Mads Freaking Mikkelson did it) that "Bye Bye" villain song and...it was not good, you guys. Not even a little. That character would not sing that song, or ever say "bye bye". He was way too into his super evil conquerer-king thing to be that playful and silly.

Which is kinda the problem with the whole thing. Except for a few casual conversations between the younger characters, everyone's dialogue is just a bunch of Unnecessarily Dramatic Shakespearian-esque Pronouncements. Poorly written ones, at that. And if The Lion King (OG) is just Hamlet Lite, and the "live action" remake is just a bad version of that, then what does that make the cash-grabby rehash of the remake? That's right...a third-time bad rip-off of Shakespeare.

I just want to say...Scar is like, quite possibly the best, most enjoyable Disney villain ever. And they managed to screw him over in two different movies. You don't have to let him be gay (although it wouldn't hurt anybody if you did) but at least let him be snarky, quippy, and an evil bitch. He's so fucking dumb here, just a spoiled little asshole with no wit, until he does a heel turn and gets a sudden upgrade in deception and eloquence.

And the songs do not get better. In fact, everything degrades as it goes along. I won't even discuss the Timon and Pumbaa framing device because it's just so damn awful.

Gee, I sure can't wait to see how they ruin everything that was great about Lilo & Stitch next!

Anonymous asked:

have you ever considered animating songs from the Beetlejuice musical? not even fully polished animation- maybe something like animatics, or storyboard type rough animations? just wondering, I think you'd probably be really good at it

omfgggggg i think about this every time i'm listening to the musical......one of these days i really gotta

all i have is this super short thing i made in 2019:

i think i could probably do better now HAHA

but i think i'd rather wait until i have a better program for this so i can more easily time the animation to the music. right now i only got procreate (procreate dreams doesn't run very well on my stone age ass ipad) because i don't have an actual graphics tablet for pc that i can use. i've been looking into getting a new one just to work on this type of stuff

Just sum post S3 Invincible thoughts

I've seen enough of the Invincible comic to know that it's a lot more traditionally "superhero comic booky" in nature than the show. It's got a lot of patriarchal themes, less diversity, and the women characters are much more sexualized. Atom Eve seems especially targeted for being fetishized, which is really irksome because her power set SHOULD make her one of the most imposing figures in the show with a lot of interesting ways to explore the potential of her abilities, but mostly she just seems to make a lot of smashable pink shapes and get punched out. I really like Eve and how she reclaimed pink as her power color, but I can't help but feel she's another case of "needs more women writers".

Invincible is a story that puts a lot of value in the Dragonball Z model of "he who punches hardest wins" so just being able to rearrange matter into anything is apparently not as impressive as being hulkingly muscled and full of rage. I like this show a lot, but the violence as a virtue thing bugs me, and I find it increasingly hard to believe that human civilization could function so well in this kind of universe. At this point, it should already be in a dystopian state with most people living in bunkers and too afraid to venture to the surface, and there would definitely be less personal freedom in the name of safety. One thing Invincible has convinced me of, being a regular person living in a comic book universe would be an absolute nightmare.

I like to think Conquest always whispers his darkest secrets to people he's about to kill because he has nobody to chat with. "I love rainy days, fluffy kitties, and double rainbows. Take that to your grave." *CRUNCH*

I don't have an issue with the believability of Cecil's dumb hubris nearly as much as I do with the fact that in the Invincible universe, not only can you survive after your head's been shattered into a literal pile of goo, but you can also still talk to request medical assistance.

I just chalk that up to Viltrumite's having a slightly slower version of Wolverine's healing factor and call it a day... 😅

I was mostly thinking about Angstrom Levy there, frankly. The man had no skull or jaw left but he was still talking, ffs.

I had no real opinion on the LA remake of Lilo & Stitch but then I saw the trailer and now I honestly kinda hate it. I just don't think every animated classic needs a photorealistic cg "live action" reshoot that waters down what made the original film great while simultaneously making all the characters uglier and less expressive. The reason animated classics are classics lies in the word "animated". Animation is a magical process that creates art that is unique because of the format.
