I have quite a modern look maid outfit I wear at my local fet club sometimes.
I sometimes have a choice dilemma about knickers (panties if you're American, but I think knickers always sounds more feminine)
What colour? I love black, but white is also serviceable, potentially colour if I'm being tarty.

The only thing I love more than maid fashion is giving my opinion on maid fashion, so you came to the right gal.
The maid profession is a detail oriented one. Anyone can throw on a Polyester dress and pose in a dirty mirror. A maid will take that dress, iron it down to the frill, pair it with matching heels that have been polished to a mirror shine, put up her hair without a single strand out of place, and top it all off with an appropriate maid cap. The fact that you're worrying about your knickers shows that you have a maid's eye for detail, so let's give those peeping Toms and Tinas something to look at.
Let's get white knickers out of the way first. I find unless you're doing a whole lingerie set, white knickers tend to look like tighty whities. They also run into the issue of getting dirty easily, so I'd avoid unless they're in pristine condition or have a little something extra like a lacy trim or little bows.
Coloured knickers are fun, but antithetical to the meticulously put together maid look. If a maid in a black and white dress with matching heels and cap is flashing some bright pink panties it looks sloppy. So I'd avoid coloured panties unless they match a coloured uniform.
Black panties are sleek, sexy, and they don't draw too much attention to themselves. They suit the maid perfectly as a maid should only be noticed once, then forgotten about until needed. I think these would be your best bet.
If you'd like to go a step above though, for a classic black and white maid dress I'd recommend a pair of black satin knickers with white frills. Not only are they adorable and a wonderful texture for any curious hands, but they show any potential masters or mistresses that you have such an eye for detail that your outfit matches down to the knickers.

The head maid tells me to go and get dressed in uniform for the day, but instead of coming back in the lovingly-prepared, historically accurate, handmade 12-piece maid ensemble she has put together, I return in the cheapest, scratchiest, Temu-grade Halloween costume maid outfit you've ever seen.
She orders me to go and return with the correct uniform. I come back wearing a different, even frillier, even more Temu maid costume. She orders me to change.
This cycle continues until she grows so incensed with my neverending supply of crummy polyester French maid dresses that she bludgeons me with a mop and has to go chainsmoke menthols behind the trash bins.

Last Christmas my uncle got a catboy for my aunt and they had to give him up after only a few months. It was really sad to watch and I hate that it happens to a lot of families every year.
